- badwithcomputer, on 06/28/2008, -11/+57i mean season 2 was pretty sweet and i like that they're out of aggrestic, but i just can't imagine the series having any serious impact on the environment.
- ligyron, on 06/28/2008, -5/+27It would certainly take the worry away.
- aviatrix79, on 06/29/2008, -1/+22I'll summarise the 7 pages for all you lazy ***** that didn't read it. (Not that I blame any of you!)
Basically the article warns that the rapid increase in C02 levels will dramatically increase the spread of weeds which will have detrimental effects on agriculture. They're concern is that we will run out of plant food if something isn't done.
One overly optomistic scientist found 2 uses for the weeds:-
1) certain roots from weeds can be used to produce fuel (ethanol); and
2) farming produce can be genetically modified to include characteristics of the weeds that allow them to flourish in high temperatures and raised CO2 levels. - sgiffy, on 06/29/2008, -10/+27Well, I know when it gets hot out a little weed helps me...
- saucedmike, on 06/29/2008, -7/+23I'm not reading 7 freaking pages.

- inactive, on 06/29/2008, -0/+5Actually, the soil on Mars is incredibly plant-friendly, as the Phoenix lander has recently established. Unfortunately, though, the environment is just no good - too cold, no water, etc.
- MasterGrief, on 06/29/2008, -2/+7You said housewife, so I immediately thought of a fifties American home maker. Then she called weeds ugly and said they ***** up her petunias, which is something I liked very much.
- dengzhi, on 06/29/2008, -5/+10digg me down! i want a record
- KingGorilla, on 06/29/2008, -0/+3So you didn't read the article?
- Drewsufer, on 06/29/2008, -7/+10...what climate crisis...?
- bebop717, on 06/29/2008, -1/+4Did anyone actually read the article? From some of the majority of comments, it does not sound like it.
- nick111, on 06/29/2008, -3/+5No. You look it up. Here's my source that would indicate that you're a lyng prick:

Where's your's that would suggest otherwise? - form3hide, on 06/29/2008, -2/+4*Their
- urgeigh, on 06/29/2008, -3/+5Maybe they could... if there was a climate crisis. I almost vomited when I read the headline. There's plenty of peer reviewed work being done by respected climatologists that strongly suggests that it's far far too premature to blame the current warming of the Earth on people. The Earth is actually still at one of the coolest points it's been in the last 1,000 years or so. Don't take my word for it either, look it up. Like it's so far fetched that the Earth goes through natural climate changes...
- tipexy, on 06/29/2008, -1/+3I love the New York Times. Is it the last great intelligent English langauge daily?
In Australia the Sydney Morning Herald and the Melbourne Age, both once great papers have become tabloid derivitive clones, In the UK The Times is a mess, The Guardian is dissappearing up its own arse and The Daily Telegraph has become irrelevent.
We are running out of decent papers. - sfacets, on 06/29/2008, -2/+4They should plant weeds on Mars, start the terraforming process.
- greenfyre, on 06/30/2008, -0/+2If the science is wrong, show us how it is wrong. Stop wasting everyone's time with the ***** and just show how the science is wrong. Here it is

They should just shout a bunch of juvenile insults and swear a lot to prove they are right - greenfyre, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1The voices in your head?
- urgeigh, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1You can check the credentials of every single person in that video... aaaand here's a long presentation regarding Tim Patterson and many of his findings..

Give the list of references please ... we've looked and they don't seem to exist
(and please remember that you said "respected", so you can leave out Singer, Michaels, Ball and all the other industry flacks - greenfyre, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1The greenhouse effect was discovered by Joseph Fourier in 1824 and was first investigated quantitatively by Svante Arrhenius in 1896. - urgeigh, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1Sorry I typed that in a hurry, horrid typos :[
- dazparkour, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1I'm not sure they have arable soil on there.
- dazparkour, on 06/29/2008, -1/+2Yes. They posted BEFORE you as well.
- kelly, on 06/29/2008, -1/+2Oh, you mean the changes in temperature that are not the product of man and therefore not fixable by man as if it needed to be fixed BECAUSE ITS NOT A CRISIS!!!!!

- beauley, on 06/30/2008, -0/+1Every fall and the following spring, most of us prepare our lawn, big or small for a lush green growing period of the summer months, for the whole family to enjoy, either just to look at, watching our children play on, or the whole family to enjoy timely cookouts and sometimes to stand out among others and lift the neighbor's eyes in wonder.

How to Grow the Best Lawn in Your Neighborhood - nick111, on 06/29/2008, -4/+5The one that's happening right in front of your uncomprehending face.

*summarize
*CO2 (not a 0)
*optimistic - Triticum, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1Too bad they rolled over for Bush before he invaded Iraq.
- Marrach, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1 This article is actually very good and in-depth. It explains whats happened to my front and back lawns. I pay a landscaper monthly to keep the typical Lawn grass green and nice looking in the front. But my back yard is not lawngrass but weedgrass. I finally stopped trying to reseed it and just mow it. I have to mow it three times as much as the front lawn-- but it stays green with less than half the watering. As long as it's mowed, at a glance, you'd think it a regulation lawn.
We have to re-think the definition of 'Weed' in the coming years. - dazparkour, on 06/29/2008, -0/+1Numb nuts. It's also further away from the sun.
Plus, plants like CO2. - eclipse6248, on 06/29/2008, -12/+12Did anyone else think this was about the TV show on Showtime?
- lmf49, on 06/29/2008, -1/+1I know what problem Mary Lois Parker can solve... Alright.
- TheMachine1, on 06/29/2008, -1/+1Yeah this is a case where a blog rip off summary would have been better.
Heres mine. Higher CO2 means weeds grow bigger. In fact expect them to evolve so strong that you will have to kill them with a flame thrower. But when all the oil runs out meet your new boss. - 5lack3r, on 06/29/2008, -4/+4hahaha.... I had to login just to concur here.
EXACTLY where my mind went first. hmmm... wonder why?? - bluenash, on 06/29/2008, -1/+1All We Are Saying...Is Give Weeds A Chance! (whoa had a little flashback there)
- Indrius, on 06/29/2008, -4/+4What climate crisis? More like ***** crisis.
- geoffg, on 06/29/2008, -4/+4Never... they WANT to believe it, like the notion that when we die we will live in an eternal state of bliss...the WILL to believe often shapes what becomes to some, reality. Unfortunately for them...truth always finds a way to reveal itself to those that want to see it.
- kday, on 06/29/2008, -1/+1First thing I thought of actually.
