Bellavista Rainforest Treehouse Community Is Endor on Earth
gizmodo.com — Finca Bellavista is an Endor-like treehouse village in the making, with paths and platforms perched on 150-foot trees. Located six miles from Golfo Dulce, Costa Rica, this sustainable rainforest community doesn't have stupid Ewoks or shield generators, but cute monkeys, site-wide Wi-Fi with internet sat link and biodigestors running on solar power.

- dvicklund, on 03/17/2008, -0/+8Amazing what a little ingenuity and a hundred hippies can do.
- yokozuka, on 03/17/2008, -0/+2They are not really hippies. The owners of the place are doing this for normal people who want to have a vacation home or a permanent resident in what I think it's something close to paradise, next to some of the most amazing beaches in the planet. The treehouses themselves are planned by some well known designers, like Romero Studios in New York City.
It's not an hiper-luxurious place, like some developments in coasts and islands around the world, but it looks comfy and well thought. Heck, I think the whole idea is absolutely amazing, specially how they manage travel (through ziplines), power, waste and communications (with Wi-Fi in the forest, with satellite uplink.
In fact, if I had the cojones I would move there during the dry season every year, and work remotely.- dvicklund, on 03/17/2008, -0/+4I agree, I'd totally live there if I had the cojones. But alas, I am fated to forever have these shriveled craisin balls and cannot therefore live in an awesome treehouse society.
- fkr3, on 03/17/2008, -1/+1I agree with you in general but the beaches in Costa Rica are not that great.... most of them have grey / black sand because of all the volcanos. Manuel Antonio is the only one that really stands out as being absolutely beautiful.

Myst was a great game....
- airencracken, on 03/17/2008, -1/+11If I lived there I'd hire midgets to dress up as Ewoks and say "Yub, yub" to me all the time.
- bcorder, on 03/17/2008, -0/+2Well now I have yet one more reason to go back to Costa Rica. Best vacation I've ever taken.
- adml_shake, on 03/17/2008, -1/+5I'm pretty sure Endor was on earth too...
- chrisinsocalif, on 03/17/2008, -0/+6Ladies and gentlemen, this is Chewbacca. Chewbacca is a Wookiee from the planet Kashyyyk. But Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor. Now think about it; that does not make sense! Why would a Wookiee, an eight-foot tall Wookiee, want to live on Endor, with a bunch of two-foot tall Ewoks? That does not make sense! But more important, you have to ask yourself: What does this have to do with this story? Nothing. Ladies and gentlemen, it has nothing to do with this story! It does not make sense!
- bcorder, on 03/17/2008, -1/+1It's because he has a midget fetish.
- Kronos6948, on 03/17/2008, -0/+3Needs speederbikes.
Plus, they should totally raze the thing to make ewoks extinct.
Damn You, Lucas, for making fuzzy teddy bears beat the Empire! - anamericangod, on 03/17/2008, -0/+2I think I see a plexiglass shield in that one pic...
- selmer, on 03/17/2008, -0/+2What's with the mix of real pictures and rendered graphics? I mean, either its Endor or its just some junky treehouses, I can't tell...digg front page for this?

- evanfp, on 03/17/2008, -1/+2why do images of Birkenstocks, granola, and tree hugging come to mind instead of ewoks? ***** epic though
- maddla, on 03/17/2008, -0/+3dugg for http://gizmodo.com/photogallery/bellavista/1000952 ...

- mahdaeng, on 03/17/2008, -0/+1Costa Rica is one of the most beautiful places on Earth, IMHO.
- Danoz, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1I've seen decent size tree's blown apart from lightning, what exactly is protecting them from lightning striking the tree? nothing?
I would love to do it... but i don't know about building my house somewhere that can be destroyed so easily. bushfires would be terrible too. - Deathrideshorse, on 03/19/2008, -0/+0Petition:
We, the undersigned, call on the Governments of the world to use some common sense when distributing Energy subsidies.
Why must the taxpayer subsidise the largest cause of man-made Global Warming(Fossil Fuel electricity generation) whilst alternative energy solutions such as Solar Thermal are forced to struggle?
Why must the consumer be asked to pay extra for "Green" Energy when his/her taxes are subsidising the very antithesis?
We, the undersigned, are not impressed with such hypocrisy.
