- puppyfox, on 08/09/2008, -0/+2BBC News Reports that Dr George Wilson, of the Australian Wildlife Services said: "It tastes excellent, not unlike venison - only a different flavour." Wow, just like it, but a different flavor! Where do I sign up?
- FairDinkumMate, on 08/10/2008, -0/+2Kangaroo is already widely eaten in Australia, though not anywhere near as much as beef or lamb.
Apart from what's mentioned in the article, it's also a really healthy meat as it has virtually no fat. That's why it has to be cooked medium-rare at most. if cooked more, it gets really tough(as Brododium) mentioned.
For those who think it's like eating the bald-eagle, I've got 2 responses.
If you were an Indian, you'd probably think the same about beef but that doesn't stop the rest of the world consuming it. That's just a cultural issue.
Secondly, I don't think that the bald-eagle is in plague proportions in many areas of the US. The Australian government has recently had to cull kangaroos from the national capital, Canberra, because of this.
Cheers from Oz!!! - Brododium, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1This isn't as ludicrous as it sounds, kangaroos have adapted to living in Australia and unlike cattle stock and sheep, they do not graze right down to the soil, also having large paws instead of hooves is better for the ground.
FTA:
"The study found that the environment would benefit from reducing the number of hard-hoofed livestock, potentially improving soil conservation, increasing the capacity of vegetation to respond to drought, and improving water quality."
Kangaroo meat is really tough, though (or at least when I tried it) and most people eat it rare. - superior1, on 08/09/2008, -0/+1WTF, mate?
- lucy22, on 08/09/2008, -0/+1I just cannot think of eating a kangaroo. They just don't seem to be appetizing. They look like they are made for another purpose.
- bringmeupmusic, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1"Throw another roo on the barbie!"
- Haoie, on 08/09/2008, -1/+1The idea is like an American eating the bald eagle.
- Detry, on 08/08/2008, -1/+1No mention of taste. Need a Pepsi challenge on this *****.
- Moosejoose, on 08/09/2008, -0/+0"Thai-style salad of kangaroo and peanuts with lime"
For some reason the kangaroo part throws me off every time I read that.
