- str3ama, on 10/11/2007, -2/+66it's actually quite a common thing with tornadoes, the cumulus/funnel clouds that form the tornado usually cause rain - the rain drops refract light (like a prism) causing the rainbow. But it's a rare event that you get to take a picture of it...here are some other tornado rainbow pics for those interested:

- Furkle, on 10/11/2007, -1/+37Wow I was seriously disappointed when I realized that the headline said "Tornado" and not "Tomato"
- Szandor, on 10/11/2007, -5/+31Thank you for not using "amazing" in your title.
- rosefu, on 10/11/2007, -2/+27Looks like the tornado also tore up the server...

- Flashman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+24Where are his lucky charms now, eh?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+24why are some of the raindrops like 3 inches long? is it the shutter speed or the speed of the rain?
- Noctem, on 10/11/2007, -2/+23Yes.
- holygram, on 10/11/2007, -1/+22I was seriously disappointed when I realized that the headline said "tornado" and not "iPhone".
Oh wait.
No I wasn't.

- cjpro, on 10/11/2007, -4/+18Your ass (if that's what you must call it) is not a pot of gold, even if it weighs as much as one.
- eleraama, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13It's like the first half of the Wizard of Oz, condensed into a single instant.... "Somewhere over the rainbow..." *tornado*
- XISUPERMANIX, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12# Tom: "But first we go to Ollie Williams as he tracks Hurricane Rupaul as it makes his or her way up the coast."
# Ollie:"IT'S RAININ' SIDEWAYS." - Szandor, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10No, but you can try not being a *****.
- rendereduseless, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10a tornado might hurt a bit...

- adoggz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Me thinks the tornado took skittles commercials too seriously.
- dodus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Yeah, too bad it's actually some poor bastard's house.
- wildfire, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4More information: http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap060702.html
- Flappy3, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4It looks like the rainbow sprung a leak.
- cjpro, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4The best digg comment ever was something along the lines of "WoW player with a girlfriend? Dugg as inaccurate."
- rockmanac, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Technically it's a FUNNEL CLOUD running into a rainbow.... For it to be a tornado, you have to have rotation at the ground... Unfortunately, you can't see the ground behind the tree, so we don't really know if this is a tornado. /storm spotter mode
Wicked cool picture! I pointed the local spotter group to the link.
-A - motionone, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2i think the rainbow was legit and the tornado was photoshopped
- TheRemoteViewer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Duplicate comment, bury.
- cbartlett, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I thought the same thing. I thought "tomado" was some euro spelling of "tomato" that I hadn't seen before.
- knackers, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap060702.html
- rainbowblack, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Old, but still an awesome photograph. I guess anything could count as news worthy.

- soogy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Never fear, I'm here to save the day.
http://i14.tinypic.com/66v58pv.png - JerodSlay, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3This is not a tornado because it doesn't reach the ground, according to the national weather service. Oh and I am a storms potter and this is also no tornado because it's fake. http://www.spc.noaa.gov/faq/tornado/#The%20Basics
- Jibberish, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I agree that this is a photoshop job, because I have seen the original picture of this before. I am going to try and find it now and post it, so please do not digg this down quite yet. :)
- jacenat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1would be a funny comment ... if it were not true ... :(
- darcybrown, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1nice, the submitted pic cropped out the copyright...
- parkermauney, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1#Tom: "Do you have an Umbrella Ollie?"
#Ollie:"HAD ONE!" - Nighthawke, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1{Gandalf} YOU SHALL NOT PASS! {/Gandalf}
- withears, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1That's not a rainbow. It's a protective tornado shield protecting the town of Pith, KS.
