- brianbennett, on 02/14/2008, -1/+14What's wrong with nuclear power + electric cars?
- inactive, on 02/14/2008, -0/+8It won't be zero-emissions if I'm driving. My farts are heinous.
- jgsketch, on 02/14/2008, -2/+9Sounds Expensive. Ah, the price to be green. I try to be green, but it's just not in the budget.
- 5urr3al5am, on 02/14/2008, -1/+6good ideas.. but I'm just pissed off that this car is going to look like a crappy 1980s Volkswagen Rabbit
- sonicularulus, on 02/14/2008, -0/+5the flinstones had a zero emission car...
and now its 2008 and we dont... - Rickler, on 02/14/2008, -0/+5So get a ***** wind turbine in your backyard.
- noisey, on 02/14/2008, -0/+4The only "Zero Emission Car" is one that doesn't take any "earthly" energy to charge.
- SmackMyMac, on 02/14/2008, -1/+5A no emissions vehicle already exists.
http://www.fresh99.com/fred-flintstone-car.htm - RealChai, on 02/14/2008, -0/+3If it sounds too good to be true it probably is...
- 5urr3al5am, on 02/14/2008, -0/+3Cool.. Here's a recent article http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7243247.stm
- sonicularulus, on 02/14/2008, -0/+3you didnt realize i was joking?
- ohhoe, on 02/14/2008, -0/+3I'm watching "Who Killed the Electric Car?" right now, and the extent that car & oil companies are going through to stop this from happening is ***** ridiculous. And if zero emissions means jeopardizing their profit, there's no way it'll happen.
- tpzoso, on 02/14/2008, -1/+4I, Agree!
- Linake, on 02/14/2008, -0/+2There is a Zero Emissions electric car (called a ZENN for 'Zero Emissions, No Noise') being produced in Quebec and sold in the US right now. It plugs into any outlet to charge, so it produces no emissions as long as you have a natural way to produce the electricity, I suppose -- wind, solar, or maybe a water wheel? *^_^* Either way, it's pretty interesting. http://www.zenncars.com/
- johnmatias, on 02/14/2008, -0/+2And we're out of Beta we're releasing on time!
- BlakeEM, on 02/14/2008, -1/+3gas sounds expensive too...
- SemiSarcastic, on 02/14/2008, -1/+3I'd rather buy a car that runs on smugness.
- funkingmajic, on 02/14/2008, -0/+2There is already a zero emission vehicle technology using compressed air. It uses just air. Air in, air out. Beautiful.
- apeweek, on 02/14/2008, -0/+2EVs do not increase coal emissions appreciably. Coal plants are base-load plants. They are too hard to stop and re-start, so they run all the time, EVs or no EVs.
Someday we'll need new plants, but they'll probably be cleaner.
Plus EVs are very efficient. Greater efficiency means less fuel for a given mileage, and therefore less pollution.
Not to even mention the whole solar panel thing. - CressCrowbits, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1Getting energy produced from a coal power station is still massively, massively more efficient than a little combustion engine in a car.
- tpzoso, on 02/21/2008, -0/+1to bad they only have a 40 mile range and top speed of 25 mph. I'll stick to my mustang...
- triskele, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1Spent nuclear reactor fuel rods are 90+% recyclable, but that's illegal in the US. They're only as expensive as they are because we don't have a universal standard and there's not a huge market for construction of new plants in the US. Blame Congress. We have the technology, but they won't let us use it.
- sleepyjjk, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1I think all of these ideas are great, but in order to really save the environment, one type of car has to rise above all others and be used by a majority of the public.
- muffinmonk, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1that would still be IF, wouldn't it?
- tpzoso, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1Carbon capture /recycling currently requires more energy to perform than was originally generated by the carbon releasing fuel. 100% inefficient...
- spitenmalice, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1Did I miss something? How did they plan to get the H from the CO2?
- muffinmonk, on 02/14/2008, -2/+3"Darn. Those hundred dollars could have bought me ONE gallon of gas."
-Al Gore, Futurama: Bender's Big Score. - motters, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1This sounds like an over-complicated and expensive system. Far better is simply not to produce the CO2 in the first place, by using electric or compressed air vehicles which have zero emissions.
- qxcvr, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1After that ugly ass retarded looking air car from france, Im resolving myself to digg down environmentally friendly cars for the rest of the day... no matter how good this is... IT WILL BE IN AN UGLY CAR... bring on the volt/tesla
- bluetytanium, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1http://www.aptera.com/
- tpzoso, on 02/21/2008, -0/+1your joke was stupid. It made you seem stupid.
- Abomonog, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1Unless it's pouring out so much smoke you can do a bonghit from the exhaust it's unamerican. ;)
- inactive, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1LOL, damn I'm lucky just, got my waterwheel in today, just kidding, eh.
BTW for the average "Jane or Joe " to have a practical environmentaly friendly solution as this, and expect solar to power it, remember you have to buy 2 cars, not one. But for those that can afford this approach this is an excellent real world solution. If it weren't for my crack habit, I would try a setup myself...... - tpzoso, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1Move to California. Home of NATURAL GAS! Nuclear power is promising too, you might want to consider phoenix, or southern California near San Onofre
- Denelson83, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1No doubt that if this works, Big Oil will try to suppress it at any cost.
- noumuon, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1you do know that you will never get more energy out than you put in... right?
- BakerMichael, on 02/14/2008, -0/+0hey, thanks, this post is very useful
- Scheissen, on 02/14/2008, -4/+4um no
That is compressed air. Compressing air takes just as much energy as gas. - eze123, on 02/14/2008, -0/+0Check out this http://news.bbc.co.uk/player/nol/newsid_7240000/ne ...
- mydave, on 07/26/2008, -0/+0hm interestnig very interesting, but I'm wondered what was wrong with nuclear power + electric cars?

http://www.danielrhodes.com - tringtring, on 02/14/2008, -3/+3Sounds ideal and possibly will work, but the cost part of it is sketchy...there are so many additional energy-consuming processes mentioned (storing the CO2, transporting it to a central location, taking it undersea to sequester it etc), that for all you know it might be net-energy negative!
- wproden, on 02/14/2008, -1/+1Great article - very interesting!
Want to read more environmental news? Visit www.aninconvenientblog.co.uk - lemonloser, on 02/14/2008, -5/+3i saw a program on tv the other day about the 'air' powered car. works nice and everything, except the cars were the ugliest things i ever saw.
- greeniemeani, on 02/14/2008, -2/+0If you drive by yourself, you can just make sure all the windows are closed and let it settle and eventually die down.
- tpzoso, on 02/14/2008, -3/+1They didn't have engines. DUMBASS
- CressCrowbits, on 02/14/2008, -3/+0- The amount of useable nuclear fuel is more limited than oil and coal.
- Nuclear Power Stations are more expensive to build, run and decomission than any other power generating source
- Not to mention the amount of time they take to build (and then decomission)
- Radiactive Waste - triden, on 02/14/2008, -6/+3I like the sounds of this better than the electric car idea. Everyone labels electric vehicles "zero emissions", but what about all the coal they had to burn to charge it's batteries?
