- mrfuzz, on 07/06/2009, -0/+103This kind of tech has great potential - lots of sunny empty desert out there !
- AmnesiacJack, on 07/06/2009, -3/+83Science, ***** yeah!

- inactive, on 07/06/2009, -10/+67I don't know about the conservatives out there, but as a liberal, I do not support sending billions of dollars to oil producing dictators every year. Instead, we should be sending money to American companies like these.
Your move, conservatives. - RudeTurnip, on 07/06/2009, -3/+42The American solar industry: Soldiers in the war against terror and for independence from terrorists.
- thethinktank, on 07/06/2009, -3/+39Very cool! They should have timed it to sync with a google earth satellite update!

Southern Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, Southern Californa, Texas.....come on man, a third of the United States is uninhabited desert...why would we use the land of another country.
And the desert countries your talking about are on the other side of the globe...what good is solar power going to do us over there? - FOR3MAN, on 07/06/2009, -2/+22If you broke all those mirrors, I bet you'd have really bad luck.
- glaroc, on 07/06/2009, -4/+21Would be cool if satellite image for Google earth was snapped at same time.
- MayorMcCheapo, on 07/06/2009, -2/+18Love it. Why fake something like that? Relax, let things be awesome.
- martzmart, on 07/06/2009, -1/+17I wonder if they can flip the bird at OPEC...
- CanadianCheese, on 07/06/2009, -7/+23How ironic, since solar power is unAmerican. Oil is TRULY patriotic.
Not really. - Orsenfelt, on 07/06/2009, -0/+15That's pretty damn awesome..
- inactive, on 07/06/2009, -2/+16Meanwhile in Australia. The Australian PM KRudd, wrangles with the senate on how best to stuff wads of money into Coal Unions pockets while still appearing green at Geneva. 2 faced Pratt he is. (Mr Sheen)

- RudeTurnip, on 07/06/2009, -1/+13The metaphor. Let me introduce you to it.
- srchgrrl, on 07/06/2009, -1/+12Amazing what motor powered mirrors can do in addition to providing cheap green energy...
- ikzeidegek, on 07/06/2009, -2/+13China has 541 coal-fired power plants, which pumped out 554,420 megawatts of electricity last year, according to the State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
Long live a 5 megawatt solar plant ! - inactive, on 07/06/2009, -4/+15@pathouston
By "Drill here, Drill now" you mean "Drill now, get oil in 20 years." Right? Because that's when we'll start seeing the oil.

- Jough, on 07/06/2009, -1/+11That was the most retarded comment I've read in a while. Thanks potamkin...
- AmazingA, on 07/06/2009, -0/+10Had you heard of eSolar before you saw this?
- StrangeFamous, on 07/06/2009, -0/+9No?
- strykefive, on 07/06/2009, -1/+10agh. I applied to a job at eSolar not too long ago...Great company.
Would love to work there someday! - insanebrain, on 07/06/2009, -0/+8.. and how many tons of air pollution did the coal power plant create ?
- 07dcolem, on 07/06/2009, -0/+8They'll be dead soon. ***** kangaroos.
- tgc1, on 07/06/2009, -0/+8Coming along to save the mother *****' day yeah!
- phopon, on 07/06/2009, -0/+7the statue of liberty
- insanebrain, on 07/06/2009, -0/+7... just like your post.
- tamman2000, on 07/06/2009, -0/+7oil is a commodity. Where we buy our oil from has very little effect on the price we pay or who gets money from selling oil.
- jaxter2010, on 07/06/2009, -2/+9Think about the cacti though! This is why nuclear is the ONLY solution!
/sarcasm - Llanowar, on 07/06/2009, -1/+7The production for the amount of space it requires might be low, but it's clean energy, and probably low cost too.
- merreborn, on 07/06/2009, -0/+6Compared to all the free publicity? Probably not much.
- Sideshowslob, on 07/06/2009, -4/+10Wow, all those mirrors and that solar farm only produces 5 MW?!? No wonder we're still hooked on fossil fuels. Nuclear is going to have to hold us off until we can harness hydrogen fusion power.
- Ibox, on 07/06/2009, -0/+6everything has its down side, keep working at technology like this and maybe we'll have something we can use within 20 years... supprot this and hope for the best.
- leif77, on 07/06/2009, -0/+6Who controls the majority of the oil in the world? The middle east. How do we reduce our dependence on middle eastern oil? Find another way to create power.
- duckyinc, on 07/06/2009, -2/+8He has a point, drill here drill now might be exaggerated but if we don't drill where is the oil going to come from? In 20 years green energy won't be ready to replace oil
- realeskimopimp, on 07/06/2009, -3/+9Nice false dilemma, Njank.
We can have our own source of ENERGY in less than 20 years. It doesn't have to be petroleum. - gangsterunicorn, on 07/06/2009, -0/+6empirical research is the only way!!
- pyromaster114, on 07/06/2009, -0/+5Can I have some of those in my back yard? I want to replace my lawn with solar energy capture and storage devices... then I won't have to pay my power bill OR mow my yard. It'd be so damn awesome.
- janjamm, on 07/06/2009, -2/+7We can DO this energy thing! Let's go!
- sampath3, on 07/06/2009, -2/+7echo friendly power system forever.
- mrmod, on 07/06/2009, -2/+7The devout capitalists are now trying to warn investors that the company isn't efficient because it enjoys what it does, and, has fun.
This is really nice. :) - pathouston22, on 07/06/2009, -3/+7Currently 1.12% of our energy comes from wind or solar. This magical green revolution ain't happening any time soon. You still can't even afford to put a 500 watt solar panel on to your own house. It is and will be a long process to change our entire energy infrastructure from fossil fuels to more green sources.
- morepowerr, on 07/06/2009, -0/+4Now If we can just grow some hemp. To make fuel, food and clothing with. We will be set.

http://reason.org/news/show/1002980.html - pathouston22, on 07/06/2009, -6/+10So there's 60 billion barrels of oil in the OCS, and we use 21 million barrels a day. That would last 8 years alone - not counting ANY oil from land, mountain shale, or from friendly countries (Canada).
Plus we're not going to be entirely off oil in 20 years - if it even took that long to get to.
Drill here, drill now - don't support terrorism. - NJank, on 07/06/2009, -7/+11so we won't want our own sources of petroleum in 20 years? well, okay then. I'm sure things will be all better by then.
