- madbadger, on 04/24/2008, -0/+51Cool! I'm going to buy the book, scan it in, and save it as PDF.
- lucidguru, on 04/24/2008, -1/+44Nice, wasting paper to print webpages... it's this a step in the wrong direction?
- floort, on 04/24/2008, -0/+31Doesn't that kinda defeat the purpose?
- ran24, on 04/24/2008, -0/+24So, since it's in book form, can wikipedia finally be cited in my papers?
- sfacets, on 04/24/2008, -0/+23...and then copy it manually back into Wikipedia.
- IlliterateJedi, on 04/24/2008, -1/+18This better be printed in pencil so people can come in and edit the articles whenever they want
- cyberdork, on 04/24/2008, -0/+14True, so that large bookstore chains can't push books with certain political bias by offering them for a discount. Coz you know, we had problems with those kind of things in the 30s...
- Balk2K, on 04/24/2008, -0/+9[citation needed]
- inactive, on 04/24/2008, -1/+9You'd look in it the next day to show someone something and the page would be vandalized.
- DigitAl56K, on 04/24/2008, -0/+7I sure hope the index of the print edition is better than the wikipedia search - it's not like you can google a hardcopy!
I wonder if you scribble changes in pen and mail it back to them if they'll add your edits.

Wikipedia print edition: "Wikipedia is 100% accurate [Citation: See Wikipedia.org]" - awtripp, on 04/24/2008, -0/+6Did you really just write "Germish"? Yup. You did.
- msjacoby, on 04/24/2008, -4/+9In other news, large pond frozen and air-lifted to vice-presidential residence for trout fishing enjoyment.
- nickerbocker, on 04/24/2008, -0/+5Wow...and this article isn't even about computers. How much is Apple paying you?
- staeiou, on 04/24/2008, -0/+5No, because it is an encyclopedia. Don't ***** cite encyclopedias, use secondary and primary sources.
- wexmajor, on 04/24/2008, -0/+5What's the ***** point?
- kh99, on 04/24/2008, -0/+4http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abridged
- icejust, on 04/24/2008, -0/+4Selected articles will be reviewed before selection, which is based on traffic. The selected articles will be the most visited ones. As to the purpose : it is obvious. This will be a very cheap encyclopedia to own (20 euros) and you won't need Internet access nor a computer to read it. Plus one euro will go to Wikipedia for each sold book.
- luckyguy2000, on 04/24/2008, -1/+5was?
- AzureRise, on 04/24/2008, -1/+4The bible?
- liljay2k, on 04/24/2008, -0/+3The book is priced at 19.95 euros (31.85 dollars), with one euro from every copy sold going to the German chapter of Wikimedia, the non-profit group behind Wikipedia.
- Risingashes, on 04/24/2008, -0/+3Yes it does.
End of story. - MichelangeloPM, on 04/24/2008, -0/+3swoosh?
- synyster, on 04/24/2008, -1/+4...and with tons blank paper, so i can add some stuff to it later
- musagha, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2This is a great idea
*EDIT*
I dont think its a good idea
*EDIT*
Wikipedia is cool imagine the spaces for trees we create by doing this! - DigitAl56K, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2I like print. Being able to hold something in your hands and flip the pages real quick is nice. I've never liked reading PDF files and I don't enjoy staring at computer screens while reading dozens of pages, paper is nicer on the eyes.
Maybe eInk will eventually change that but I don't have enough personal experience with eInk devices yet to know if they'll replace books for me. - Kyan, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2Wait, this is not a copyright infringement?
- liljay2k, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2WHY the hell do we want paper copies of Wikipedia, i see no point, it's just a big waste of paper
- synyster, on 04/24/2008, -3/+5cool!, i just edited an page on Wikipedia, are you going to buy second edition of the book?
- lennybird, on 04/24/2008, -1/+3And that's why I question Wikipedia's credibility....
- dood, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2€19.95
- LemonDefragger, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2Guys, lets start putting subliminal/subtle references in the German Wikipedia right before they collect the pages.
- designer, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2I was joking. I work in printing and have heard that "print is dead" for a while now.
- Jonjonr6, on 04/24/2008, -0/+2But the purpose was a free online encylcopedia wasn't it? When you print it and sell it, it's no longer free. Mor eimportantly, it's not easy to correct. And finally, why thumb through a stupid book when you can easier use the search engine and find what you're looking for?
- J0415, on 04/26/2008, -0/+1yes, this it's a grammar mistake.
- J0415, on 04/26/2008, -0/+1and quote the book as a source!
- zbor, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1Right, 'cause if Mein Kampf had been a bit more expensive, people probably would have said "***** it" and gone to their Jewish neighbors' Passover seders.
- designer, on 04/24/2008, -2/+3Print is dead.
- gubin09, on 04/24/2008, -1/+2so they will have to still maintain an online based update log? Counter intuitive IMHO
- plonko, on 04/24/2008, -3/+4that's just stupid
- Shinobi326, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1haha.... that's a nice tautological argument there! (or circular reference if you will)
- Hangly, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1I want.
- astrobela, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1I really hate that I cant cite from Wikipedia, the first result on Google for many searches.
- warholsbluecat, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1While most of the history of mankind will fit into one book, we will need seperate volumes for World Of Warcraft, Star Wars, Pokemon, and every internet meme due to the sheere amount of content that has been masterfully created for these cornerstones of our society.
- saffsam, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1I thought we were moving away from paper, whats going on?
- Bersy, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1Fanaticism.
- bernmeister, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1As a student who is studying New Media Publishing (Printing)... This is by far the worst idea I have ever heard.
- drgmdp, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1.
(***** point) - illu45, on 04/24/2008, -1/+2Er... encyclopedias are secondary sources. Granted, books are far superior for in-depth coverage, but encyclopedias are a good place to start researching.
- sfacets, on 04/24/2008, -5/+6...and crappy admins
- graderguy, on 04/24/2008, -8/+8Or one could also say: "great, an encyclopedia based on peer review."
and anyhow, ANY encyclopedia is certainly based(to some degree)on opinions.... -
