And in case people are wondering why it happens:
http://www.madsci.org/posts/archives/dec97/873290777.Ch.r.html - skyhighrockets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+51uhh, soap, maybe?
- mc7winkie, on 10/12/2007, -27/+67That guy laughs like a ***** idiot.
- drmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+37They really needed to poke it or something, does it stay solid or just like foam?
- mc7winkie, on 10/12/2007, -17/+49Yeah, thats too bad :(
- jotux, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28So I ran down stairs and did this...what the video doesn't tell you is the HORRIBLE smell that comes from the soap. gag.
- HP844182, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19That's what she said.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Why doesn't he poke it for scientific and observational purposes?
- beanMosheen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15This will make your microwave smell like soap FOREVER. I know because i did it. The house takes about a week to stop smelling as well.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Stays hard
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0IrSOIOqSs&mode=related&search= - catastrophee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15He laughs like the guys in "Revenge of the Nerds"
- swanny89, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I like how the woman is concerned with whats happening while the guy just stands there saying, "Thats Awesome!"
- Zopmaz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13When I tried to combine a lot of mini hotel soaps into a big soap bar, this happened. So it's not just Ivory brand.
- mozzep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12at least there wasn't any annoying music like half of the clips on youtube or other sites.
I was thanking him for that. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Where are the youtube link nazis when you need them..
I can't get this video to play in FF on Linux. - Sagags, on 10/12/2007, -7/+18Yea the clean smell of soap is just so BAD!!!!!
Curse the soap makers for trying to make us smell good!! - gijoe411, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11My friend made two of these, he now uses them as centerpeices for his coffee table, he won't let anyone touch it because it crumbles into peices. He lives in a trailer park...
- mr.gates, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I just did it right after I watched the video, it was awsome, I used pure n' natural soap though, still worked, although it poofed up a bit diffrently. mine looks more like a deformed animal after it solidified.
- JimmyLin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The result: the expanding gases form bubbles that stretch the softened
soap, forming a large closed-shell foam. When the heating stops, the
soap hardens again.
When it cools, it is solid and probably will wash away under water. All that's happening is there are bubbles inside the soap that are bubbling and expand. - deanau, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Its a flash video dude...
- jordanwhat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7You'd sound like that too if you stood in front of a microwave all day.
- Homunculiheaded, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7when we did this in college it was solid afterwards, however we also didn't microwave as long so it was just a bar of soap that was 2 or 3 time larger than it was before it went in the microwave. Still I'm going to assume that it continues to remain solid.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7right here :)

I have exactly the same problem ... cant wait for linux flash 9 - Sticky_icky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6does he not touch it because it will melt your hand making you into a X-Man? (Clean, Mr. Clean)
- trustrsx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The lightbulb in a microwave is even more exciting.
http://www.metacafe.com/watch/124179/bulb_on_microwave/ - eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The first 2 seconds of the video I turned off the sound. I'm sure I didn't miss anything.
- lumnar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Those people are so stoned.
- calebcharles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4yeah, you don't think they were STONED at all, now do you? :)
- elroy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4there's a japanese treat where you do this. it's a hardened rice puck (mochi), you put it in microwave and it foams up like this. then you put soy sauce + sugar on top and chow down.

As some sites require you to have flash player 9 installed and it doesn't exist yet under Linux, I came across the following forum entry. It's a cheap trick to make the site think you are using flash player 9. It might not work for all sites.
Open the file ~/.mozilla/firefox/pluginreg.dat

work pretty well for me - cybersamurai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Just did this a couple of days ago in my dorm. While the smell of soap is very strong afterwords, it does a good job of covering up other smells such as microwaved CDs and grapes.
- bigfkncee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2how about an egg?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKeYW00eZWI&mode=related&search= - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Shortly after this video was made, the soap alien leaped out of the microwave and ate their faces. Goes to show you, don't mess with the unknown.
- TomGfromCanada, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4i tried it with a bottle of soap. not the same.
- bishsd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Please note that the metal grill on your door is there to prevent said blindness.
Have a nice day. - anonym41414, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think you mean a blancmange, a dessert made from milk and gelatin.
(Blancmange, incidentally, comes from the French for "white food," making it officially the food with the most boring name in human history.) - SadPanda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Try putting marshmallows into the microwave, not as impressive but way more delicious.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's what my hemorroid looks like; only abit darker.
- CrioKnight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Bury. Some people have too much time on their hands. Now if they would have tossed a hamster in the microwave. Now that's entertainment.
- kcopp87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That is freaking awesome. If it weren't for the whole "stink-the-house-and-microwave-for-all-eternity" thing, I'd go try this right now.
I still wonder what it ends up feeling like, anyway. - itseffinkasey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wow that was awesome...
- HsoKinees, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1meh! I was expecting an explosion :(
- binarypower, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I was going to say he was laughing like he just got hit in the balls.
- akinnee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I SAW THIS IN SCIENCE CLASS LAST YEAR.
It's way cooler in real life. - Dooser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Last week versus...

The beginning of the month. - tainedhero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1New title.
Nuked Soap, Toasted Cameraman. - deehomsarro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A soap? I bet General Hospital wouldn't look that good after being in a microwave.
Oh God, that was lame. - Sielencer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1no sudden nuclear explosion!!?! come on!!
- overlordmead, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3not dugg for this reason...
- Nerys, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Soo anyone know a brand or model number of microwave WITHOUT the metal grill in front of the Glass ?
One idea is to REMOVE the metal grill all together and make a new one OUTSIDE themicrowave and have the camera inside of this but this I assume would allow microwave energy out the front. What might this do to the camera if anything ? (assuming its kept far enough away say 2-3 feet) and or would this reduce the effectiveness of the microwave or cripple it all together ?
I have an HD camera that can record 720p video I want to try some of this stuff.
Dissassempling a nuker is not an option since activation of a magneton tube outside of its enclosure will result in immediate blindness and I only got one eye to play with :-) -
