blog.bizzflip.com — I can name some of the most famous self-made millionaires in the world that would agree that street smarts are more important than book smarts.

- rantpatrol, on 05/15/2008, -1/+4I paid $2000 for a few units that fulfilled that graduate level prerequisite. One year later, I enrolled myself in the masters class, dropped $10000 in a night and dropped out.

Hey my first comment using the new system... looks good digg - freedomwv, on 05/16/2008, -1/+4Yes so true indeed. If you don`t have the streets smarts you will not be a success in business. I go by the good old KISS system: Keep it simple stupid.
- CaptainKimo, on 05/16/2008, -0/+6No education can ever teach you knowledge. When I realized this, I never went back to college for my BA. I recently called up some of my college buddies who did get their BA, and guess what, they don't have a job doing what they went to school for. Yes, I do work in my career field, but everything I learned was taught to me on the field. I sold myself short and worked my way up. I wouldn't say that my career applies to the careers of others, but I will say, there is nothing in college that you can't learn for free. Knowledge is free, learn it! College is good for a few things though, like socializing and keg parties. Isn't that what we all go to college for anyways?
- fokoko, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3I mean, you took the words right out of my mouth. The current system can be so limiting. Why? Because you're limited to one professor's point of view. We're in an age where infinite information and varying points of view are at your fingertips, man! And then 90% of the time professors discourage you from researching online because it's "not reliable." It seems like everyone's just trying to hold onto that J.O.B. they worked so diligently to get.
- rantpatrol, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3Now you're thinking... you must be one of the Street Smarters!
- jmpeagle, on 05/16/2008, -0/+4this type of thinking is why people drop out of school and why we have an undereducated population. Everyone believes they have more street smarts than they do.
Also, guess what, the real world experience of attending a University can not be replicated anywhere else because it isn't just about attending class. It's about taking initiatives, networking, etc... You may be able to name anecdotally some self-made millionaires who didn't attend a university but they are far outnumbered by those who did and since those who do are outnumbered in this country by 3:1, then getting a degree vastly improves your chances at success. Real world experience often requires low paid internships that are very coveted and so require a marketability that can only be brought about by a degree.
Sure, a degree is not the end all be all solution for success, but it sure as hell should be encouraged. - dcmusicfusion, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2What about a blog post about the streets????? or say....about gambling?????
- Huangism, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2hahaha common sense, you go to a casino, chances are you will lose
