- Alphateam, on 01/18/2008, -3/+198When was this written in 1996?
What kids sit and talk about Kurt Cobain anymore? Or call them "car phones"? - UncleCrapper, on 01/18/2008, -4/+165"Rule #1. Life is not fair."
"Life" may not be fair, but that doesn't mean people shouldn't be. Parents that want to raise children of character know this. - Ceeman, on 01/18/2008, -5/+1381994 chain email thread. This is great. Bill Gates also wants to give you 100 dollars.
- meruru, on 01/18/2008, -3/+118"#5 Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity."
Absolutely. While I was in HS/College I heard that all the time from people and got teased about my minimum wage job. But unlike them I came out of college with money in the bank and knew how to deal with customers/bosses. - inactive, on 01/18/2008, -5/+120#12. If you work hard now, you will be able to have fun for most of the rest of your life. Otherwise, it's just the opposite.
- UncleCrapper, on 01/18/2008, -3/+95And rigid, absurd stereotyping is stupid, no exceptions.
- yamyogurt, on 01/18/2008, -5/+96"The average teenager uses the phrase 'it's not fair' 8.6 times a day."
This is clearly made up. - brwright, on 01/18/2008, -6/+74it's not fair
it's not fair
it's not fair
it's not fair
it's not fair
it's not fair
it's not fair
it's not fair
it's not - nbrntrt, on 01/18/2008, -6/+71Rule #3 You won't have a car phone. Don't most kids these days have cell phones? And who the hell uses the term "car phone"? I still liked the article though :)
- FoxFaction, on 01/18/2008, -2/+58Don't look at tubgirl or goatse.
Most youtube links are rickrolls.
Every day is caturday. - MrEddy, on 01/18/2008, -1/+45Umm was this list made in 1993? This was probably faxed between offices. "back in the day"
- edstate, on 01/18/2008, -6/+47More like "Rules kids won't learn AT ALL".
Don't mean to rain on the parade here, these are great rules and truisms about life. But it's seeming more and more that we're moving away from this as a society. - geneusutwerk, on 01/18/2008, -0/+40Thank you!
I hate when people use this as an excuse to be not fair. Just because life isn't always fair does not mean you have to make it less fair. - xRand0mx, on 01/18/2008, -7/+46This list was clearly written by someone who hates his/her life and job. Probably the most depressing list I have ever read and if anyone truly follows each part of this list, man I feel bad for you. Life may not be fair and it doesn't give a ***** about your self esteem, it does however not have to suck as much as this nice little list makes it out to be. Don't put up with a mindless boring job, get out there and find something you enjoy and not get sucked into that cubical 60 hour work week crap. Already we are starting to see massive changes in the way these new startup companies operate so that their employees are more productive. Don't just give in and get sucked into this crap, get out there and do something. Oh and I wasn't a burger flipper, I was a cashier for a movie place its almost as exciting.
- manicallday, on 01/18/2008, -7/+44This list is clearly made for rich-suburban kids.
- inactive, on 01/18/2008, -4/+41Kids didn't change, dude, you did.
- Four20, on 01/18/2008, -1/+37As Rule 8 says. . .it just goes on and on
- nekaidesigns, on 01/18/2008, -2/+36car phones? kurt cobain? the gap? this is like some douchey i love the 90's episode.
- Y0tsuya, on 01/18/2008, -5/+38More like, all men want to do is get in your pants, unless you're ugly or they're gay.
- Disease, on 01/18/2008, -1/+33It's accurate. The 0.6th time is when the parents rightfully slap their teenager across the face before finishing their 9th usage of "It's not fair".
- da_bradler, on 01/18/2008, -2/+32correction if you work hard and get lucky you'll be able to have fun for the most of the rest of your life.
I know a lot of people who work mighty hard every day and don't get an inch ahead, I know a lot of people who got straight A's threw school and don't do ***** now, and I also know people who didn't do jack ***** in school and who are way ahead.
Life is completely random is the moral, never feel like you worked harder then somebody else simply because you make more money or have more social standing. - merreborn, on 01/18/2008, -0/+30That, and this: "You may even have to wear a uniform that doesn't have a Gap label."
lead me to believe that this was written nearly 20 years ago.
The "save the rain forest" and Kurt Cobain references also date it. - tehbored, on 01/18/2008, -4/+33Car phone? How long ago was this written?
- AxeSwinger, on 01/18/2008, -0/+26Define ugly. There is a sliding scale impacted by consumption of alcohol.
- mypreciousss, on 01/18/2008, -0/+26Please tell me I am not the only one who counted the letters in "it's not fair" to make sure that the last line was only 60% complete...
- futerfas, on 01/18/2008, -0/+26This was posted in my High School math class, so I did learn this is school
- samfishercell, on 01/18/2008, -4/+29Rule #1: If you want me to take you even remotely seriously, never, EVER use Comic Sans.
- Nivardus, on 01/18/2008, -9/+33Written by a bitter old man?
- d3faultnet, on 01/18/2008, -0/+23This article must have been written in the 90s... kids in kindergarten have cell phones these days... heh...
- Mellowman999, on 01/18/2008, -8/+27All women are raging *****. No exceptions.
- arbulus, on 01/18/2008, -3/+21All it takes is a stroll around a mall on a Friday or Saturday night to find out what kids are like. It's getting worse as time goes on. Kids are selfish, arrogant, think everyone else is beneath them and have such an enormous entitlement complex that they believe that they should never have to wait or work for anything at all, ever. If they want something then it should damned well be handed to them right now or they're going to throw a fit until they turn violent to get what they want. They don't say "excuse me" when they run you over, they don't say "thank you" if you hold a door for them. Hell, they don't even acknowledge you at all if you hold the door. It's as though the door opened of its own volition just to make their lives easier. Everyone else is an obstacle to them and they don't care who they have to step on to get what they want.
Now, don't get me wrong: I'm not some sour curmudgeon, I'm only 25. But it seems to me that kids weren't this way when i was a teenager. It's just become worse over time and continues to get worse every day. Now, I'm sure there are good kids out there. But the good ones probably comprise about 10% of today's youth. - Surkit, on 01/18/2008, -6/+21This is Bill Gates' speech to graduates. My P.E. coach hung the original one up in the locker room three years ago.
- Tenareth, on 01/18/2008, -1/+15This was written around 10 years ago, it wasn't adjusted for inflation. :)
- Error601, on 01/18/2008, -0/+14Car phones used to be the *****. Now they're just *****.
- simpleid, on 01/18/2008, -0/+13if you love what you do, working hard now happens because you just love it. chances are if you're working hard now you'll be working hard for ever. but if you're like me. your perception of working hard is "life as usual" and you're probably always in a state of pleasure. mmmm. ;-)
working hard period pays a lot because people are lazy as hell, so they all want you to keep it up. sucks they don't love it as much as you do.
programmers, don't lie, you love your jobs. ;-) unless you suck.
caring wins. being honest wins. dedication wins. loving competition wins. - orenshk, on 01/18/2008, -1/+14Every generation thinks the next generation is lesser somehow. It's appearances. Much like anything else, you can't generalize (inductively) just because you saw a few examples. I don't care if all the teenagers you saw in your life do seem arrogant, self-centered and lazy, that does not account for the population in general. And seriously? 10%? that's just cynical. By the way, I'm your age and I was a brat in high-school. I was all those things you described. Guess what. life taught me a thing or two.
- norman619, on 01/18/2008, -1/+14It's called growing up and looking back at kids the way they really are. When you are on the outside looking in things usually look a whole lot different.
- tobikow, on 01/18/2008, -1/+13I agree. Try growing up in a ghetto, there are much harsher lessons to learn than these.
- fkr3, on 01/18/2008, -0/+11http://www.snopes.com/language/document/liferule.a ...
It wasn't Gates, but it was plagiarised. - Surkit, on 01/18/2008, -1/+12"36% of all statistics are made up on the spot" Steven Wright
- xptweakerntn, on 01/18/2008, -6/+17I believe this is a list created by Bill Gates.
- ShadowMarth, on 01/18/2008, -0/+11***** rule 8. Too damn true.
- vervalsing, on 01/18/2008, -0/+11Speaking as a teenager: I really ***** hate it when people (especially people over the age of 60, since that's where the article sounds like it's coming from) just automatically assume that I've been raised spoiled and taught that my self-esteem comes before anything else, and try to give me "advice" on how to live. BELIEVE IT OR NOT, I actually work for my money and my self-esteem, and I don't need cliched advice that I could get if I spent my afternoons watching Dr Phil instead of being in school.
- jordanau, on 01/18/2008, -0/+11What about the golden rule? "He who has the gold makes the rules"
- cam0man, on 01/18/2008, -1/+11This shouldn't say work hard, it should say work smart. You can work in the coal mines every day as hard as you want, it probably won't do any more than give you a steady income. If you work smart, you invest your money, start a company, you'll be sitting on the beach sipping a cold beer while watching the revenue pour in from the drones.
This list is obviously written by some depressed loser who's too lazy to actually get out and change his life into something he wants it to be. School sucks because no matter what, you're still in school and playing by someone else's rules, in the real world, the more you use your brain less you work and the more you make. It's called being proactive about your life and not a little bitch who sits in a cube all day complaining. - ItsMyWii, on 01/18/2008, -2/+12Gap? Car phone? Are we in the 80s?
- Ratatoo, on 01/18/2008, -3/+13Down with Comic Sans!!! >:(
- ryan83189, on 01/18/2008, -0/+10it's not
- centerblack, on 01/18/2008, -0/+10Well it does say straight out of high school, no college. So if your college education (even incomplete) is getting you > 50k then that doesn't count.
That said, you can easily make 50k/ year waiting tables at the right restaurant.... maybe not everywhere in the country or something. But come on... 50k/ year is like $25 an hour. -
