- AaronThomas, on 05/02/2008, -0/+7Thank you
if anyone has Reagans city on a hill speech I'd love to see it - CaptainAmerica1, on 05/02/2008, -0/+9They sure don't make 'em like they used to.
Thanks for the great post. - Barbrady, on 05/02/2008, -0/+10I sure miss that man. I was born in 1971 so Reagan was "my president" throughout my childhood. Even as a young kid I seemed to know that Jimmy Carter was an idiot and all these years later it's nice to know I was right way even back then. :)
- ssn697, on 05/02/2008, -0/+8I joined the Navy in the summer of 1980. I cannot fully express the difference between 1980-1981 years under Carter, and the Navy of 1982-1986 under Reagan.
I do know I will never forget the change in attitude of the country...- Barbrady, on 05/02/2008, -0/+8I bet the change in attitude had to be about as close to a 180 as possible.
- ssn697, on 05/02/2008, -0/+6Bingo. The change in level of respect WAS 180. It really was amazing. I was a lucky kid to see both sides of that equation, at a young age.
- JohnReb, on 05/02/2008, -0/+8ssn, I joined up in 1976. I was walking a security watch at a barracks in Little Creek the night of the "malaise" speech. I remember standing in the lounge staring at the screen, every member of the crew simply stunned by what we were hearing. I decided that night to not re-up
Then Reagan came in and the change was amazing. I almost reenlisted, but it turned out I was needed at home.
Night and day.

- davidmesaaz, on 05/02/2008, -0/+3I love Reagan but I think that we need to embrace his principles but be forward looking. One of Reagan's political heroes was Abraham Lincoln but he didn't try to be the next Lincoln just the next Reagan. That is something the current Republican candidates should follow.
