- vroom101, on 07/16/2008, -0/+13Now that was interesting! How often does the horse get new shoes, and how much does it cost?
- LUCCHINA, on 07/16/2008, -0/+5Horses get new shoes every 5/6 weeks. Price is variable. It's around 100/150€ for 'Performers'. We usually say : 'No Feet : No Horse' ! And, it's true.
- EccentricCdn, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3It would probably be much cheaper if they just used hats instead of metal.

- manzplan, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4I have horses, they do not wear shoes.. but if you show them, or race them, then they probably have shoes..
depending what you do.. it might only be shoes on front, or shoes on all four
Farriers charge different amounts for different ways of shoeing, and diff types of shoes.
in Canada $60 and up... cheaper if you reuse the same shoes a few times- LUCCHINA, on 07/16/2008, -0/+3You are right. Shoing or not horses depends of what they do.

Let's get some Shoes. Shoes. Shoes. - grrad, on 07/16/2008, -0/+9So with 8 horses at approx 150€, some with special orthopedic shoes...every 5-6 weeks...and I've never actually stopped to add it all up...meds, supplements, various grains, mountains of hay...OMG...I should just throw myself off a cliff. Thanks Lucchina!
- LUCCHINA, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4I own 5 horses... But only 3 are "Performers' and need expensive 'shoes'...;-D
Am i lucky ? lol !- grrad, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4I have 3 thoroughbreds---performers---the others are simply very expensive pets, but even the pets need their special expensive shoes. Yes, you're the lucky one ;-)

Doesn't hurt them at all and as you can see, that particular horse seems releived to get a new set of shoes - the hoof is basically a much thicker bigger version of our finger or toe nails, so the metal nails that get hammered thru arent touching any nerves.
- hansauph, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2didn't realize there was so much involved...cool
- seowriter, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1How did wild horses survive without shoes?
