        You are however not correct, granted this statement pops up a lot, but it's nothing more than a myth. People at one point were made to believe his grandfather might have been from Jewish descent, in a poor attempt to slander Hitler. However there are plenty of books documenting this not to be true at all. I read it in a book called "Hitlers Henchmen" by Guido Knopp, if I'm not mistaken. I've read quite a bit of books on the topic so it might have been one of the other ones, however I'm fairly certain it was this one.

Those who really give citation out of the texts for making their points are nearly nonexistent, which does not mean their are no religious people here but people who haven't read a religious text or even simpler can't quote.

        science = flexible through argumentation => theories getting better over time
        religion = mostly fixed through a couple of books with religious authorities who claim their view is the single truth

        To the first question why it is posted here, i think because it gives a new point of view. Not a single truth but a facet of it.

        On the other hand, while I agree Digg gets antisemitic at times, I don't see it in this story or the comments above his.

Hence, they didn't necessairily agree with the terms on which the war was being fought, nor did they always know the entire details of the atrocities committed by the Nazis.

      Had they been involved with the SS, which wasn't specified (and if they were, it probably would have been pointed out), it would have been a more newsworthy article.

      In many cases full blooded Jews were given the Hitler seal of approval while many pure blooded Germans went to the showers as Jews. All based on how well you fit the Aryan profile. If you didn't fit you had to prove your bloodline but no questions were ever asked if you fit the profile.

By and large, Germany determined whether someone was a Jew by scourging religious records and tracing blood lines, not necessarily by solely profiling one's physical characteristics. Occupation also served as a possible trigger as well, given the stereotype that most Jews held jobs in banking or finance, thusly held a grip on Germany. There is no doubt that there were video propaganda produced which characteristed Jews as having hooked noses, hunched backs, and wirery hair. However, there is no firm evidence that appearance was the leading factor in judging one's Jewish authenticity. Infact, there is no proof it did anything, officially, other than reinforce a claim already laid for other reasons. There is proof, however, that the Nazis gathered data from religious resources, and obtained information from the tight-knit Jewish community.

        Not defending those bastards, but bringing out the facts. The Nazis were horrible, the Jews didn't deserve what happened to them. But that doesn't make it right to believe what we glean from motion pictures on the subject, or pulp novels.

        Yes, many germans did not match the Nordic ideal. That's because it was an ideal to be used in advertising and propagand, something that they wanted to work towards. Somewhat like how the supermodels on magazine covers are an ideal but what most of the population don't look it.

Certainly it wasn't nearly as extensive as what the Union did, although it pissed off a lot of the Confederate States. Also not very well known was the fact that there were unenslaved African-Americans in the South at the time; they had to carry papers around certifying that they were "free" and lived as second-class citizens, but they were not enslaved.

      Also something interesting to note was that many of the Confederate generals actually opposed slavery; James Longstreet insisted repeatedly that the South should have freed their slaves first and then seceded at least to gain the sympathy of England and France; he was obviously in the minority though, and became a Republican (when the parties' roles were reversed) "carpetbagger" after the war. Another prominent Confederate general who opposed slavery was George Pickett, famous for losing 10,000 men in the decisive Day 3 of Gettysburg. Robert E. Lee's memoirs also indicated some misgivings about slavery, but it's not clear whether he supported slavery as a "necessary evil" or was against the institution altogether.

      Needless to say, everything wasn't black and white; there were plenty of Northerners who had no problems with slavery but felt loyalty to the Union was stronger. Although given that slave labor was such an integral element of the South's economy (cotton was king rang true), it probably would have lasted a lot longer if the Civil War hadn't happened.

The Cherokee in particular, who had sought to emulate Southern white slaveowning culture since the early 1800s, aligned themselves with the Confederacy. The most famous of them was Brigadier General Stand Watie, who was the first ever Native American general in any part any American military force and the last Confederate general to surrender to the Union. During the war, he commanded a force of Confederate cavalry which skillfully covered the Confederate retreat during the Battle of Pea Ridge and at one point was able to flank around the Union forces and capture several dozen artillery pieces.

        And yes, I was at one point obsessed with everything about the Civil War.

      Yeah... he pisses me the ***** off. He's done that ***** ~5 times a week for 2 years now. I actually fantasize about strangling him every now and then. And yes, talking about Hitler makes me think of him.

        So yes they were brainwashed, but don't expect that anybody did know about the concentration camps. Those who knew were those who worked in/for/at those camps and those who lived next to them could ... they saw the trains, could sometimes smell it, sometimes they witnessed oily ashes, if they weren't dump they knew . That might be quite a lot, but they weren't organized and there was the SS and the Gestapo.
        In most mansions were a socalled "Hauswart" who have to report to the Gestapo about suspicions.
        Mostly but not only Jews got into the camps.

      Any death is terrible, and no one deserves to die, but if you have to differentiate those deaths, there was clearly another quality to those deaths planed and done to the Jews, Sinthis and Roma as to those who just(sry for that just) died in a war battle, which often would even be glorified.

        The soviets exported all the grain harvested from the Ukraine to the world markets while 10,000,000 or so Ukrainians slowly starved to death while systematically blocking any news from leaving the area… But somehow to you that is less tragic or worthy of note?? The Japanese killed millions of Chinese, Korean and other nationalities. They used biological warfare and conducted experiments on civilians yet again for some reason that doesn’t hold an equivalent disgust in your mind. I love how people like to take their history and try and prove that it was more dramatic and heart wrenching than other ethnic groups horrors.

      5,000 years is a bit of an exaggeration. There's some new archaelogical information suggesting that instead of defeating the Caanites, the Israelites were in fact ethnic Caanites themselves. When Caanite society started to collapse, the Israelites just picked up the slack. Not as exciting as the stories in the Bible, but believable enough.

      Skipping ahead to Roman times, the Romans didn't treat the Jews any differently than the treated anyone else until after the various uprisings. They treated everyone pretty harshly, it's just the way things were at that time. Prior to the uprisings, Judea was treated just as any other client state was. The Romans didn't care what happened as long as Rome's authority wasn't questioned. Rejecting the signs of Roman might (money, Roman temple complexes, paying proper respect to the embodiment of the Roman Empire) made them a bit upset, since it was a direct challenge.

      There was one particular uprising where diaspora Jews across the Mediterranean revolted, killed their neighbors, and became generally unpopular. I think that a lot of the mistrust/dislike of Jews began at around that time.

The German Army were the only real opposition to the Nazis and even tried to kill Hitler several times. The partly Jewish Soldiers who fought actually funnily enough were proving Hitler wrong. Hitler thought that Jews could never assimilate in German society and consider themselves Germans. These guys fought and died for a Germany that even Germans feel ashamed.

      I think as time goes by, people not only forget, i think they want to forget. I don't say i as a German have responsibility to what did happen in the Holocaust but i would want to go so far that i have the responsibility that such things wouldn't happen again in my backyard.

      The Dafur Genocide is in the responsibility of the American people, they made it their backyard as they voted the second time for this [fill in suitable allegations] president.

      Why it is repeated?
      We are living in hierarchical systems. Those are banged sidewise from money owners and interest groups. Change the system in a way that any voter is best educated possible about anything what is decided in politics.
