    Food kept in mushrooms and then equally distributed. Gargamel the evil capitalist wants to destroy their community for profit (we never know how exactly, just "profit"). Gargamel creates smurfette (material desires) that make the poor little communists compete against each other, therefore ruining their little communist society.

    Every smurf as an intended purpose, a role in society. Smurfs = communists.
