- WordsnCollision, on 07/23/2008, -2/+23Guilt by word association...
- serif69, on 07/23/2008, -2/+23What was this article's source? The Little Engine That Could?
- justiceape, on 07/23/2008, -11/+30Self-help tripe. Hey I've got an idea. Stop reading the ***** Secret. It's not real. You don't shape reality with your attitude. Go walk in traffic with a "positive attitude" and see what happens. If you think changing your own perception affects your reality, you're just wallowing in your own powerlessness. Acts change your reality. And no, "being positive" isn't a meaningful act. Only people with low self-esteem respond to this *****. If you think this article is interesting, what you should be thinking is, "Why am I responding to this *****?" You need to get out there and give your life some meaning.
Also, there's an unconscious mind, obviously, but I'm not sure one meaningful thing in this article is actually backed up by evidence. It "processes 2 billion times the information" of the conscious mind? Here we go with the whole "brain as computer" fallacy . . . - slieberman, on 07/23/2008, -4/+22"People who Digg are SO smart...People who Digg are SO smart..." It works!
- secrity, on 07/23/2008, -1/+18What is wrong with saying "I'm sorry"? Sometimes saying "sorry" isn't even really an apology; it can be a request for someone to repeat something, or it can be an acknowlegement that there was an issue and it is now cleared up. In the South, however, to say that you are sorry can be taken as saying that you are a sorry sack of *****.
What is wrong with telling somebody that you don't know something? I would much rather have somebody say that they don't know something than to either not answer the question or to feed me *****. - Zcott, on 07/23/2008, -2/+14Freeing your mind isn't a scientology thing; it stretches right back to Buddhism and meditation.
You don't have to be religious to have a free mind. - homah, on 07/23/2008, -6/+18I'm sorry, but this article sucks. Buried.
- tellahoohooo, on 07/23/2008, -0/+11Honestly I don't know, but I think it isn't as over used as the word 'like'. Next time anyone talks to you, don't listen to what they say, but try and count the number of times they say 'like'. If and when they are done talking, just say the number out loud...you'll both be amazed... then you'll both like laugh as you like try not to say like.
I'm sorry, was that off topic? - razorc03, on 07/23/2008, -2/+13I'm sorry, but I don't know if I can't resist the urge to digg this topic

- yournightmare, on 07/23/2008, -3/+10I say "I don't know" all the damn time, mostly because my girlfriend keeps asking me if I "even have any idea where a clitoris is."
- DaHuuuuuudge, on 07/23/2008, -0/+7Don't let words get in the way of communication. I think we should use smoke signals.
- Indpthinker, on 07/23/2008, -1/+7No, it's my evil ***** boss that limits my happiness!
- UncleCrapper, on 07/23/2008, -0/+6I have to disagree with you here. Your attitude absolutely shapes your reality, or rather, your actions or reactions to reality. We are not simply mindless automatons reacting with stimulus responses. Our actions are guided by our thoughts, and our thoughts are shaped by our attitude. Of course, you can have all the positive attitude in the world but it would be meaningless without acting on those thoughts and feelings.
That said, I absolutely hate books like "The Secret." If you cannot grasp the fundamentals of how to structure your actions in response to your thoughts and desires then I do not see how a book is going to help. This is just a basic life skill you should have learned in grade school. I also found the philosophy presented in "The Secret" to be incredibly self-centered and materialistic (from what little I read). - inactive, on 07/23/2008, -0/+6Why not just be honest and use words that are direct and to the point? If you don't know don't B.S. and stall for time be upfront about it and find someone who does know to get the job done.
- mlagana, on 07/23/2008, -0/+6interesting opinion... but if you ask old people what the key to happiness is they will tell you it's your attitude of mind.
- Albear89, on 07/23/2008, -4/+9I thought te girl inj the pic was hot! anyone else?

- AFJon, on 07/23/2008, -0/+5Brad: Folks, I'm often asked about my qualifications. Well, I may not
have a lot of "credentials" or "training", but I tell you one
thing: I'm a Ph.D. in pain. Now let me show you how you can
change your life.
[Steps to a blackboard] Troy, this circle is you. [draws one]

- coyote1284, on 07/23/2008, -0/+4payable on delivery
- coyote1284, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3I prefer "I'm not sure, let me get back to you on that" when looking for a BS alternative to "I don't know".
- inactive, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3What a bunch of b.s. if I can't say configure the router in a quick and efficient way I'll get Sally down in I.T. networking who can. Why should I waste everyone's time to sooth my fragile ego?
That's just an example BTW, the same is true for art, I for example know I'm a good photographer and if someone says "no I can't" they ought to get out the way so I can get the shot. I know what I am good at and what I'm not good at, it;s pretty simple really. I hate to wreck peoples post modern relativism but "I don't know" is simply an ackowlodgement that some people know more about some things than others, it has nothing to do with self esteem and other self help b.s. Please save us from "empowered" managers with "high self esteem" who think they can when they can't. - alperea, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3Instead of saying "I don't know", say "hmmm, let's see..." and start to ponder the question. Even if you don't eventually get the answer, the people around you will think you are much smarter than if you merely said "I don't know". It also gets you into a habit of being more open minded.
As for "I'm sorry", either don't say it at all, or say "I understand" when appropriate. Empathy is far more appropriate than sympathy in many situations that weren't your fault. "I'm sorry" can even sound condescending at times. - Diggestor, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3I do feel a little happier after digging this.
- cygnus2112, on 07/23/2008, -1/+4I'm sorry (the chick in the picture is hot). I don't know (if I can resist whacking). I can't.
Ahhh.. happiness. - Coffeedemon, on 07/23/2008, -1/+4"Acts change your reality"
How is that defeatist? - inactive, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3Thanks, that's exactly the sort kick in the pants from objective reality the esteem mongers need. What ever happened to the enlightenment ideal of searching for empirical objective truth?
- JCH897, on 07/23/2008, -3/+5Reading that was a huge waste of time. What was written in several pages could have easily been condensed to a paragraph. I DON'T KNOW why I read it.
- mk3k, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2It's kinda a duh thought. Your inner dialog will affect your well being.
- erad222, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2No.
- inactive, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2Thanks excellent point! between the right wing fundies and Fox followers, and lefty New Agers and Post Modernists soon any deep thought will impossible at all.
- redscofield, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2I learned all of this in the thrilling series Caged Wisdom, by George Bluth, Sr.
What an inspiration to all of us... - inactive, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2So if I try To push you off a a cliff say can you flyt, and you say "I can't fly" do I get to keep pushing because you have the "wrong" answer? Dumbass child abuser, I hope she grows up to ask you, "can you be a better person," and when you say "I can't" she kicks your ass.
- davecor, on 07/23/2008, -1/+3I wish MORE people would say "I don't know" if that's the truth. I hate it when people wing it with some guess and then try to support it so they don't appear wrong.
When the whole house of cards collapses, they appear FAR dumber than if they had just said "I don't know" in the first place. - RogueMountie, on 07/23/2008, -1/+3There is nothing wrong with saying "I don't know" when you don't know something. As someone who is agnostic, being able to admit that you don't know something is a quality I admire. There is nothing worse than people who have vocal opinions about subjects they know nothing about. There is also nothing wrong with saying "I'm sorry". It's a common courtesy.
This author sounds like the type of overly assertive person I would not enjoy being around. - inactive, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2Don't!
- WiretapStudios, on 07/23/2008, -1/+3If you are still looking for it, you can just call her on my house line. Lost my cell.
- cyrt, on 07/23/2008, -1/+3Don’t you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thoughtcrime literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it.
- sh0rtstop00, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2I do find myself saying "I'm sorry" in many unnecessary situations and when I really need to say it, I just blur it out so casually that I wonder if the other party would think it's insincere. I really need to think before I say those phases again.
- PabloMac, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2I agree with...I mean, the...what I think is...I don't...
Oh, never mind. -
