I just want to add one simple thing that goes a long way - be interested in your friends - I'm not talking about their pictures, links or tweets, I'm talking about the people behind those nicknames. Ask them questions and then listen. We are, after all, a bunch of people stuck together probably because of our similar interests. Be human :)
