- iraq, on 01/29/2008, -0/+17I used to have this problem but found that if I turn my 'obsession' towards my productivity and work it helps keep me on track and away from the net distractions. Although, digg... well that's another story.
- BodomX, on 01/29/2008, -0/+9I have a Digg diction . . . I have to research something really quick, Digg pops up on the homepage.. oh wait, let me read this story first . . .
- knetworx, on 01/29/2008, -0/+2I have that same adiggtion. Just can't stop myself from reading the stories.
- BodomX, on 01/29/2008, -0/+9I have a Digg diction . . . I have to research something really quick, Digg pops up on the homepage.. oh wait, let me read this story first . . .
- jggube, on 01/29/2008, -0/+4Not too sure about hiring someone to check your email, if you're like most folks your work and personal emails are mixed up all the time. Don't want that pretty PA to read about what you told your buddy about her. :)
- aaronmp2003, on 01/29/2008, -10/+3Great post on why we're addicted to email, and what to do about it!
- borez, on 01/29/2008, -0/+5Suddenly...it all became clear
- iThenticJoce, on 01/29/2008, -1/+9I'm addicted to the computer in general
- busch30pack, on 01/29/2008, -1/+11Alcohol.
- rarson, on 01/29/2008, -2/+20Email is not the problem. I get so damn much junk mail that I hate using it. Digg is my problem.
- P373Y, on 01/29/2008, -0/+12gmail ftw
- dacjames, on 01/29/2008, -0/+0exactly. I get 100+ spam messages a day and maybe one per month makes it into my inbox
- funkyjunk3, on 01/29/2008, -0/+3Total daily email time: maybe 30 minutes
Total Digg/Youtube/blog browsing & posting time: who knows, maybe 7+ hours
Email is the least of my e-addiction concerns. If I lived with even 1 hour of email a day but less on the other stuff I would be fine.- funkyjunk3, on 01/29/2008, -0/+2reading actually takes more time than posting, *sigh*
- P373Y, on 01/29/2008, -0/+12gmail ftw

- knetworx, on 01/29/2008, -0/+1Then marijuana clearly would not be a good solution for you either. Not that it's really relevant, I'm just sayin'.

- AdverseEntropy, on 01/29/2008, -3/+8Really, who is addicted to e-mail anymore? We have so much other online stuff that e-mail has slowly become irrelevant.

BURIED - SmackMyMac, on 01/29/2008, -1/+5Replace "E-mail" with "Porn"
Done. - alfitzhugh, on 01/29/2008, -0/+2I use autoreply with a generic delivery failure notice. Gets rid of most people including friends, except for the diehard wannabe friends.
- andrewcsayer, on 01/29/2008, -0/+2Yeah - my veins have collapsed from taking too much email. I'm now send/receiving between my toes.
- Heymann, on 01/29/2008, -0/+2I don't think E-mailing is a problem iI think its Instant Messaging and Websites that are awfully addicting: like Digg.com?
- muslax27, on 01/29/2008, -0/+3How about how to break Digg addiction?
- olduvai, on 01/29/2008, -1/+1Why do you guys digg this sh*t? Can't you find anything interesting on the web?
You should edit this post. I have just begun and can read no further:
“This feeling is natural, and we often do not try solve the root cause but understanding it more deeply.”
What you meant was this: “This feeling is natural, and we often do not try to solve the root cause by understanding it more deeply.”
This is an unsupported statement. It is also contradictory to say the feeling is natural yet needs solving. - phantom_mullet, on 01/29/2008, -0/+1"how to delete email addiction"
i see what you did there - and303, on 01/29/2008, -0/+1Step 1: Don't use the word delete when referencing a problem yourself.
- whitej, on 01/29/2008, -0/+3Best part of this article:

- Sharpezor, on 01/29/2008, -0/+2good thing i have few friends and am spared this terrible disease
- tas08, on 01/29/2008, -0/+2Step 1: Check Digg hourly for productivity tip updates.
- hiPpymIck, on 01/29/2008, -0/+1i reckon if you pretended every email you sent or received was a phone call instead youd soon figure out how to manage them
IMHO - brown2hm, on 01/29/2008, -0/+1If I went one day every week without checking my email I'd get fired.
- funkyjunk3, on 01/29/2008, -0/+1I can't help but wonder if labeling my internet experience "addiction" isn't mislabeling. Its creative time for me, whether I acknowledge it as such or not. I find it rewarding having something I created/discovered viewed by others, commented on, critiqued, read. I don't make a penny on it but its still insanely rewarding, like an artist getting a gallery show.
When I sit down to write a well thought out comment to some random person's post/blog, its a labor of love. I probably don't give enough credit for how much I love doing it. And thus the addiction continues! I do it for the love, but it also a "waste of time". Sure watching 3 hours of youtube videos isn't "productive", or is it? If I learn something new from the experience of watching the videos, I gain insight from documentary I'm watching and it sparks something within me, is that "waste"? I gain so much understanding and experience through the web.
I am very street savy from reading countless wikipedia articles, documentaries, films, news, blogs and other informative and interesting sources. I am also very street inexperienced at the same time, as I spend the majority of my time with such sources I don't actually "experience" them. I can talk the talk and walk the walk on many topics, but for the most part its all just cerebral without being grounded in real life experiences. There's things you just can't learn from wikipedia and digg, things that you gotta experience first hand. If you could just download an entire experience, its richness, the smells, the sights and the sensory of it all like they download *training experience* in the Matrix, I'd be first in line. I still live off the red pill though, I want to be informed of what's really happening. I also love the efficiency and ease with which I can inform myself through the internet.
That is my addiction in a long winded nutshell. - km6847, on 01/29/2008, -0/+1This makes me unproductive
