- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -3/+33And Joy is basing her assumptions on what statistical evidence studies? Or, is she just spouting the typical NEA rhetoric?
- cloudglider, on 11/21/2008, -1/+28All the young people of whom I am acquainted, who's parents have home-schooled, are normal, well adjusted and intelligent young people. They also get along well with people of all ages. They are not frightened of other children or people in general, but neither are they ignorant of the dangers that exist in the world as a whole or their own sphere of existance.
Part of the problem with the education system, today, is that most of the teachers out there either don't know how to teach or almost always have some agenda they are trying to promote, as is obvious by the statement of the young woman in the article.
I have never abided the litany of blonde jokes about blonde haired women having only air for brains, but I guess in this instance I could be wrong. - Temlakos, on 11/21/2008, -1/+28She's just following the program, folks. Official opinion, delivered by the Department of (strikeout)Information(/strikeout)Propaganda.
- brothaslide, on 11/21/2008, -1/+27If a conservative said this, people would be shocked and calling for her firing. A liberal says it and nobody pays attention.
- SlayerSyrena, on 11/21/2008, -2/+28The adults I know who were homeschooled are more socially well-adjusted than many people I know. They are outgoing, intelligent and confident. Meanwhile, if you want your child to fear people, I suggest putting them in public schools, where they will be constantly berated, harrassed and tormented for most of their formative years.
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -1/+25It's the same old argument that homeschooled children aren't given a chance to socialize with other kids. It's all bunk and the studies prove that those children are actually more involved than public failure children.
- OldTimer1933, on 11/21/2008, -1/+24I once wondered if teachers like Behar was the main reason so many parents chose Home Schooling.
She opens her mouth and removes any doubt. - matthollycart, on 11/21/2008, -1/+24Yes its the same old rhetoric. And then it trickles down to people I work with when I tell them I homeschool my children. We need to use these situations as teaching opportunities to debunk the myths they are hearing through the media. I try to use every conversation about my children as a platform to show that God's ways are the best.
- dorsey47, on 11/21/2008, -1/+23Joy is perpetuating a myth, pay it no mind. It is only recently that public education has become as popular as it is today.
- LifeguardMom, on 11/21/2008, -1/+20Once again, this loudmouth proves that she is undoubtedly the biggest airhead on this gab-fest. She has NO CLUE what home schooling is about.
Studies are coming out now of home school students who have been through college and are now in the work force. They are more likely to graduate from college, and are much more socially adept than their public school peers. Home schoolers are surrounded by a variety of people - their siblings, their friends, their parents, their friends' parents.....they are around people of all ages. They are not crammed in a classroom with 20-30 kids of the same age. Home schoolers learn to interact with people of all ages. Home schoolers have won the majority of Spelling Bee's and Geography Bee's in the last 10-15 years.
Why does ABC keep this joke of a show on the air? Do they owe Barbara Walters something? Because these women have got to be some of the dumbest creatures on earth. - viejoverde, on 11/21/2008, -1/+19Hey joy, how come then than in every test the home schoolers come out ahead by beating the pants out of your government indoctrinated NEA little socialist? i guess since you are one of them is why you make such stupid statements.
- bibliophile4jc, on 11/21/2008, -1/+19Who cares what Joy Blowhard says. The woman wouldn't know an original thought if it came and danced a jig in front of her. She is only spouting the same hogwash she's learned from all her other communist cohorts.
- 14wntr, on 11/21/2008, -2/+19What an ignorant beast!
- CTRaiderThe1st, on 11/21/2008, -1/+18Joy continually makes the most asinine comments. Why anyone gives her the time of day is beyond me. I'm guessing she does it for the publicity because no one could be that dumb.
Please don't feed this attention whore. - inactive, on 11/21/2008, -1/+18When was the last time we heard a report of a home schooled student going berserk with a gun??
- katancing, on 11/21/2008, -1/+18Every time this women opens her mouth she proves what a idiot she is.
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -1/+18This is all part of the plan, the MSM and wind bags such a not so Joy-full ridicule, mock, degrade and make statements that "homeschooling" or private schools are bad for children. In addition to these children are "not prepared for real life" of social skills like, "tolerance and acceptance".
Once the MSM, the NEA and their ilk accomplish this in FULL (and its coming sooner than later) the courtrooms and activist Judges will be used to outlaw homeschooling or private schools. You wait its coming. - Christianptriot, on 11/21/2008, -2/+18I read a comment once by a home school father, when asked about how his children will handle the real world, since they aren't really socialized like public school kids.
His response? (paraphrased) "Whenever I want my daughter or son to get socialized like public school kids, I take them to the bathroom, beat them up and take away their lunch money."
Maybe someone should tell The View folks that our first public-schooled president was Kennedy..John F. Kennedy, in 1961.
ALL of the founding fathers, the great inventors, pioneers and statesmen and women who founded and developed this country - lead us to victory in TWO world wars, numerous other wars and conflicts and crises - were HOME SCHOOLED or schooled in a church/religious setting. What is it about this FACT that public school teachers don't understand?!?! - PoinSpirit, on 11/21/2008, -2/+18Will there be any accountability for her?
Any idiot can get on TV and spout ignorance...
when will 'WE THE PEOPLE' wise up and turn them off? - hugothecommie, on 11/21/2008, -3/+19She doesn't need any statistical evidence. She is a Liberal and they know everything. If you don't think so, just ask one. Besides, children being home schooled are not being taught proper sex education. When they go to public school they can get actual hands on sex education with the teacher.
- EOTPhone, on 11/21/2008, -1/+17I ran into a 8th exam from late 1800s awhile back. I could not answer not one question, and I highly doubt most of you could either. I wish I was home-schooled and actually taught something of value, like scripture. I envy the founders because of how well they were brought up. Now I'm playing catch up. God ordained the church, government and the family for his purpose. The church is a ministry of worship, the government is a ministry of justice and the family a ministry of education. The cannot cross jurisdiction like we see today. Government issuing marriage license and educating our children. It will all turn into destruction before long if we don't get back to God's laws. Most of you Christians don't even know what a Christian means. You respect the Bible but don't respect the authority of God.
- lmrein1, on 11/21/2008, -2/+17This is precisely why we homeschool...my children are very social and have lots of friends...they
have learned how to deal with kids of all ages, not just their particular age/grade level, they have
learned compassion and have no problem socializing with handicapped/learning needs children.
As for being afraid of other children, is it not ok to fear bullies, trench-coat gun toting teens who shoot
up a school, or teachers who look at their students as a sexual buffet? I think Mz Behar is the one
who is afraid, afraid of homeschoolers who do not blindly accept all the liberal crap that is being
handed to us on a silver platter. - inactive, on 11/21/2008, -1/+16If truth was known Joy is probably one of the Teachers who could show up on the TV screen with Head Lines. 'Teacher offers herself to High school Foot Ball team after the game', or 'Teacher demonstrates sexual fantasy on you tube'', etc. etc.
She obviously doesn't have a clue about Homeschooling. Does anybody know why she quite teaching. - acb777, on 11/21/2008, -1/+15What an a##hole.
- nippinawassee, on 11/21/2008, -3/+17Think IF I was going to be compelled to not only listen to a talk show person explain how homeschooled children are AFRAID of other children, I deserve what I get. Homeschooled children are so far advanced over the public system - in our state, the homeschoolers take most if not all of the awards in the science fair competition. As for being afraid? From what I've seen of the homeschooled children, they have far more confidence in themselves to be intimidated by a bunch of baggy drawered mini-thugs preparing for the prison system.
Behar is just starting a load of crap that the other libs will glom onto and pretty soon, guess what? It'll be considered FACT by everyone...
What a waste of time. - DrReaper, on 11/21/2008, -1/+14Who cares what these shills talk about? I would only have to show her one home school student that doesn't fit the her statement and she is wrong. That would be pretty easy.
- drachemorder, on 11/21/2008, -1/+14It's my opinion that putting school on a pedestal as the center of kids' socialization is a huge error in the first place. Even in the idea situation it's a highly artificial environment; your primary interaction is just with a bunch of kids who are exactly your own age and social station. That's almost entirely unlike how things are in the real world. In the real world you have to deal with people who are older or younger than you and who are not of the exact same social station as you. And homeschoolers get that sort of environment far more than the lemmings in government schools.
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -1/+13They don't want the children to be socialized, they want them to be Socialists. That's what you get with publik skool.
- Nannybell, on 11/21/2008, -3/+14Wonder how much the NEA paid her to say that garbage.
Public school is a place where the minds of children are assaulted with secular sex ed; guns, gangs, and drugs in school; all mention of God shut out; and having to read vulgar, explicit stories and novels that violate a child's personal boundaries. In schools today, they have lockdown drills in the event that someone actually might come in with a gun and start shooting. Are we crazy? Why do we send our children to such places as that?
My grandchildren are homeschooled. They are intelligent, happy, well-adjusted children who enjoy learning and are exuberant about life. All that public school has to offer them would be coming in contact with the seedy side of this horribly debauched culture. No thanks.
By the way, I think every homeschooled child in America should write a letter to that show complaining about the bigotry expressed by that horrid person and how she devalued and insulted so many children in America. Clearly she has no respect. But that is a typical liberal attitude.
Vouchers, people. We need school vouchers to break the stranglehold monopoly that the NEA and the federal govt. have on public education in America. Liberals are in charge of public education in America. That just must change. - Nannybell, on 11/21/2008, -2/+13Hugo, that's right! Excellent comment ! They aren't being taught the usual Leftist filth, so they are demented, according to her!
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -3/+14I've met and interacted with home-schooled children. Their social skills and confidence are FAR more developed than they are in public school-educated children. Furthermore, they read more, think more, and are far more intellectually curious. It's not even a contest, really. The View is just pabulum for people as stupid as Joy if not stupider.
- Tugging, on 11/21/2008, -1/+11So they're demented? Perhaps for dementia example, she should look in the mirror.
- hugothecommie, on 11/21/2008, -1/+11If children are not in public school then they can't learn about what's important. Like being queer is good. That America is a racist country. That Islam is the religion of peace. Christianity is for dummies. You don't need a mommy and a daddy. These are the important things our children need to learn. They can't get this kind of guidance at home.
- MsTeDeLight, on 11/21/2008, -1/+11Exactly!!
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -2/+11I'm thinking there's a special place in the oven for this witch.
- Mindy775, on 11/21/2008, -2/+11Liberals see home schoolers as a threat.
- cloudglider, on 11/21/2008, -2/+9In the clip showing who actually made the statement about home-schooling, my comment was not directed at the proper individual.
While I made a final comment about blonde jokes, I've known a lot of red heads, brunettes, black haired, auburn, and brown haired ladies who have, from time to time, fitted into this category of light headedness.
In each situation, it was always a case where I didn't believe that they were riding on clouds, but later I was proven to be wrong.
Accept my apology and misrepresentation. - inactive, on 11/21/2008, -1/+8AMEN on your whole post! Yes - I have seen that 8th Grade test myself from the 1800's. You are correct.
- JustinCase18, on 11/21/2008, -1/+8When was the last time a home schooled student was seduced by his teacher?
- drachemorder, on 11/21/2008, -1/+8I gotta remember that --- that's a great one-liner for all the "socialization" crowd!
- drachemorder, on 11/21/2008, -2/+9Well, the Left often labels kids whose parents keep them out of school as "homeschoolers", even though they're really not. If you ever do hear such a report, look closer --- it's a safe bet the parents are not actually homeschooling, but just not making the kid go to school at all.
- KCLorelei39, on 11/21/2008, -2/+8Anyone who bases their opinion (on any given topic) on a televised gossip session, lacks understanding.
IF public education is so superior, why did this woman change careers?
Perhaps the only dementia, lies within her own mind. - inactive, on 11/21/2008, -1/+7On the spot and look at the Presidents after that, that were NOT home schooled look at where we are at today. No win wars, wars of aggression, war of profits and oil, democracy through the barrel of a gun because they don't like what other countries are doing in their own countries! Sex scandals in the House, CON-gress and the White House for crying out loud! Cocaine snorting, drunk Presidents that openly admit it! It matter not that they have an R or D behind their names they ALL serve the same Global thugs behind the curtain.
- cantcurestupid, on 11/21/2008, -2/+8What a charming woman!!!
Being called demented by Joy Behar is like being called a racist by a guy in a white hood. It staggers the mind that Barbara Walters and the rest of the dipsticks at ABC Daytime can't see how toxic and deranged this silly woman is. - drachemorder, on 11/21/2008, -3/+9With good reason, I might add.
- Nannybell, on 11/21/2008, -2/+8I respect the authority of God with all my heart.
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -2/+7Well saidEQTPhone
- Orwell007, on 11/21/2008, -1/+6"because no one could be that dumb"
That would seem logical to well adjusted people, but I think you may be selling Liberals, Marxists and Communists short. - DiggerXtreme, on 11/21/2008, -2/+7That ignorant fornicating male offspring of a female canine! She has a lot of nerve to come out against the children of parents who care enough to keep them from being brainwashed in todays liberal educational systems, yet I'll bet she kisses the derrieres of NAMBLA.
