http://images.google.com/hosted/life - hnazareth16, on 12/17/2008, -1/+43Marilyn Monroe always looks stunning.
- borez, on 12/18/2008, -1/+40OMG, actually on the one page.
FTR: I love the scale in that last picture of the ski jumper. - cpdylan, on 12/17/2008, -1/+39The JFK newspaper bus ride is a really great pic
- WheezyMustafa, on 12/18/2008, -1/+28It's pretty astonishing to think of all the progress our planet has made over the last couple hundred years.
It's also sad to see that top hats are not really worn anymore -- those things are ***** badass. :p - BN89, on 12/18/2008, -1/+25The picture of the slaves back is pretty intense.
- TVarmy, on 12/18/2008, -0/+17They were stiffened with mercury. We could use modern technology to build a safer top hat, but that would be like making Caesar Salad without a raw egg. The constant worry about the quicksilver's effect on your brain and offspring is half the fun. Plus, you get to tell your friends over and over about where the expression "mad hatter" comes from. By the time they get annoyed, the fumes'll stop you from remembering you already told them.
Still, I do sometimes wish taller hats were more acceptable. Like most things, I blame it on Thomas Edison for stealing the patents for and comercializing movie theaters and low-hanging powerlines. - fearlessfx, on 12/18/2008, -0/+14The beard on the guy directly behind the cannon in the first pic is ***** amazing... Evidently you needed some pretty serious facial hair to fight in the Civil War.
- FonzsXe, on 12/18/2008, -0/+12The picture of the slave made me cry.
- RebeccaRipple, on 12/17/2008, -0/+9Oh, awesome! This is a great find! :D
- platey01, on 12/18/2008, -0/+9Wow Marilyn was dang........Its no wonder old guys still swell a little at the thought of her.

- LastAXEL, on 12/18/2008, -0/+8Isn't it weird seeing pictures of Civil War era stuff? It is like cameras shouldn't have been invented or something. I can't explain it.
- RadInfinitum, on 12/18/2008, -0/+8I wonder what pictures will stand the test of time for our generation. It better not be Britney Spears pictures, godamnit. Man, the past was so much classier.
- JaseFace, on 12/18/2008, -1/+9He looks kind of....creepy, honestly.
- AlphaInsidious, on 12/18/2008, -0/+7Agreed 100%.
That picture now has me looking over my shoulder...He doesn't look human. - inactive, on 12/18/2008, -1/+8They're photos from the 19th and 20th centuries, expect your *President* Obama to be there once they start adding stuff from the 21st century.
...
...Did I mention he's your *President*? :-) - vdogg89, on 12/18/2008, -0/+7they probably had to stand there for a few seconds of exposure, creating the statued look
- americangenius, on 12/17/2008, -4/+11wow, I agree. I'd like to have a print of it.
- GawtMilk, on 12/18/2008, -0/+6Too bad people around here are too blind to notice the secretive top hat lobby that PERVADES our Government.
- D3koy, on 12/18/2008, -0/+6You seem to be a Troll. I know it's against the rules to feed you, but I can't help it...
***** OFF! - D3koy, on 12/18/2008, -0/+5And they say we never went to the moon...Never in a million years could anyone have thought of something so epic
- Dyabolik, on 12/18/2008, -0/+5Just look at all those awesome beards...
- samscomputer2, on 12/18/2008, -1/+6Fantastic and timeless pictures of American history
- cowsgonemadd3, on 12/18/2008, -0/+5Did you all see the face in the earth picture?
- oboshoe, on 12/18/2008, -0/+5I love the photo of Earth taken from Apollo X.
Captures so well the beauty of the planet. - oboshoe, on 12/18/2008, -1/+6She looks better without makeup than 95% of todays hollywood stars all madeup
- pkon, on 12/18/2008, -0/+4Dugg for Muhammad Ali and Martin Luther King, both for being inspirational that still has effects until today.
- WRXSTimulated, on 12/18/2008, -0/+4Love the pic of the girl surfing in Hawaii, perfect angle and composition.
- 1lastdigg, on 12/17/2008, -0/+4amazing! these really are some stunning photos
- dreman, on 12/18/2008, -0/+4Who says she's not wearing any make up?
- oboshoe, on 12/18/2008, -0/+4Beautiful photos.
Shows how beautiful - and short life is. So many of these folks, including the small children died a long time of old age or other means. - SMFB, on 12/18/2008, -0/+4this is crazy..... i wonder how our time will be looked at in the future
- GawtMilk, on 12/18/2008, -0/+4Lincoln was an ugly dude. Some scientists think he suffered from Marfan syndrome, a connective tissue disorder which gave him long arms and legs and a kind of ghoulish look.
http://img.tfd.com/wiki/0/05/Abelincoln1846.jpeg - emkaysmith, on 12/18/2008, -1/+5I was in college when she died. I always loved the breathy quality of her voice. And she developed into a pretty good comic actress, too. Go to Blockbuster and check out a copy of "Some Like It Hot" -- arguably the best comedy ever filmed.
- seaofcheese, on 12/18/2008, -0/+4It is thought that he had marfan syndrome, a generic disorder that causes a person to be tall thin and long skinny arms.
- Kaiern, on 12/18/2008, -0/+3Indeed. He looks awesome.
- beatitlikeacop, on 12/18/2008, -2/+5Wow.. some really old ***** in there..
- TVarmy, on 12/18/2008, -1/+4I was at first going to say that you were dumb for posting a search of every image that "life" could link to, but then I actually RTFA, and that's really cool. Thanks for referring me to that, I never knew Google was doing anything like that.
- Velocity14, on 12/18/2008, -0/+3Dugg because it's a good compilation of times in our history. They're also really fascinating commentary on cultural "interests" at the time.
- MaxxusFlamus, on 12/18/2008, -0/+3agreed
I don't use the word surreal often...but yea....surreal... - UnarmedHippo, on 12/18/2008, -0/+3why could everyone in the civil war grow such epic beards?
- SeanyMac, on 12/18/2008, -1/+4I have to say that if Marilyn Monroe were alive now, I'd still probably tap that.
- oboshoe, on 12/18/2008, -1/+4Not that there is anything wrong with that.
- bentman78, on 12/18/2008, -0/+3Cool photos. Looking at some of the older ones from the 1800's and early 1900's, you can just tell people where hard and gritty back then. We're sissies now...
Check out some of those manly beards during the civil war... - PeteDavis, on 12/18/2008, -0/+3Wow, some spectacular stuff in there....
- nikki2300dk, on 12/18/2008, -0/+3What a shame that Life folded. These photos are only the tip of an iceberg.
