- stradv16, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22If anyone cares, the song in the video is "Spanish Armada" by Ratatat.
- unversed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19the wax from the candle is dripping, so the weight is constantly shifting. thats all.
- joeshlub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Think about it, one side goes down, the molten wax drips off making it lighter, while in the meantime the high end has it pool up. That end drops, dumps it's wax, process continues. Seems perfectly reasonable to me that that's the only thing at play.
- SakisRakis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15You shouldn't forget to take your Ritalin in the future.
- wendelgee2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14is that it?
but...I wanted to see it start spinning.
*pouts* - shertzerj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12That candle's almost 9 and 3/4 inches long!
- Mohonri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Um...check that math again. Half of 9.25" is, indeed, 4.625"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9my favorite is the goldfish revival
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_u9iSKaSMcs&mode=related&search= - Nick22, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Can he go any slower? I had to skip ahead to the actual lighting of the candle because he does stuff so slow
- xister, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Yeah, I feel bad for all the fish that might get tortured because of the fish vid.
/emo - kb0x, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Eww, mountain dew.,... poor fish.
- AcidPhysx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6But, will it blend?
- philmiller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I have to know what happened to the candle. When will "burning the candle at both ends 2" come out!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3boring. boring, and i expected it to start spinning--now i'm all disappointed
so
very
slow - matrixbandit, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Actually guys, with Jo9100's crazy combination of whole numbers, decimal points and fractions, he might have discovered a new math where his answer is correct!
- archer104, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I liked this one better
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kuUPGOGuIs - unversed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3i just gave it a try, worked good in the beginning, but leveled after a minute. I don't know what he did to get it to go faster
- dxmzan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So that's how math works.
- KibibyteBrain, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4This is a really cool way to demonstrate how a small amount of stimulus energy(the initial light) plus the power of gravitational potential energy can result in lots of sustained kinetic power. Of course, the secret is the power of chemistry, but being the fuel(air) is not a resource we need to provide, it is a great practical generator. This is a good way to explain thermodynamic cycles empirically without expensive lab equipment.
- davidepaula, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ah C'mon, That is not physics or science experiment! I saw that little brat ghost rocking the candle. It is clearly there!
- SoundJudgment, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It sitll can't 'hold a candle' to the power and suspense of one of their other video shorts:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqXbhFFzbxw&mode=related&search= - mapkinase, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The clever trick is that the camera is far from the setup and the background color. You do not see much of the wax dripping, so it looks very enigmatic.
- CornStarch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It takes him more than a minute to light the candle and then you don't get to see it burn all that way...
- Spikito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah, 9 times 1/2 = 4.5 and 1/4 times 1/2 = 1/8, thats 9 5/8
- stisaac, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I liked their bike thief video
- Robozilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I bet nobody actually tested this when the expression first came about. Now that I know what actually happens when you do it, I'll just laugh whenever anybody says it, and think about a spinning candle.
- ymmy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3A candle burning sideways will melt the wax really fast, thus it drips fast also. It is like a swing, you don't start out going very high, but if you time pushing and pulling correctly you can get really high. The drips are just timed well.
- lozaning, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1man i was really hoping it was going to start spinning completly
- Kitsune818, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wax melts on one side, drips, and suddenly it's just a touch lighter.. then the other side drips and it's slightly lighter on that side.. so it starts to oscillate that way. As the candle burns a little more the wax is warmer and melts quicker, so a little more wax drips each time.
a bit closer via Occam's razor than all that chaos theory BS some people are attributing this to. It appears to be a very ordered event, not an unordered one (how else can you explain oscillation?) - Ravenhaft, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Half of 9 is 4 4/8, and half of .25 (2/8) is 1/8, so 4 4/8 + 1/8 = 4 5/8
- ajb2015, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this was cooler than i thought it would be actually. i wish they had shown more of it.
- rowlodge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what did this production cost in time and material, like lighting cameras, titles and production?...(for a candle)
- Rikkochet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I was, actually. Thanks.
- s6t9eve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ok, This is lame.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Someone care to explain what is happening?
- insaneavocado, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5I've always like the neistat brothers; especially their one about ipod. Anyways, good video!
- Zekaer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1seesaw
- fearofcorners, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I was wondering if it was Ratatat. The stuff on the newer album (Classics) is better, I think.
- Jo9100, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1actually, not. i was wrong...
- flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1towards the end it almost look CG.
- SamyIsMyHero, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2unversed:
Some how i can't agree that that is the only thing happening. I mean if it was only wax dripping then the movement would be more settle and slow to change. Although I may be wrong because they might have sped up the video. - Jo9100, on 10/12/2007, -18/+29.1/4 * 1/2 = 4.1/8 not 4.5/8...
