1,000 Books Quarantined in Children's Library

ncnewspress.com — Thanks to the newly passed CPSIA (Consumer Products Safety Improvement Act) libraries across the country are beginning to pull pre-1985 books from the shelves. Thrift stores have been tossing their old (and in many cases out of print) children's books. The libraries & stores must prove the books are safe from lead or face stiff penalties.

  • donnagorrenflo, on 02/20/2009, -0/+0The CPSIA is a big screw up all the way around. It's ashame that so much effort and energy has to be spent because of this poorly written law. There is so much more in this world that needs our attention. While we ban these books from kids (that have been used safely for many, many years) people that sell, grow and distribute drugs to our kids walk free. There are man things in our world ..especially today, that are dangerous..not only to kids but to adults as well. No one said living in it would be easy or perfect. With so many dangerous things around ..focus should be on those most immediate that are already known can cause the most harm.
