- inactive, on 04/05/2008, -1/+20They really should've asked me for permission to publish that photo of my desk.
- elosorusso, on 04/05/2008, -0/+16This is much better than my list, which pretty much went as follows:
1. Create piles of papers.
2. Set fire to piles of papers
3. Rejoice. - nahsrocketeer75, on 04/05/2008, -0/+13I'd forward this to my wife if not for the fact I'd have to sleep on the couch and that's all covered with clutter.
- rolf, on 04/05/2008, -0/+8Slightly off-topic? Just slightly?
- dmh650, on 04/05/2008, -0/+6That article is well worth a read, I need to make myself a 30 day list. I did something similar to stop me buying an Asus eee and it really works.
- justindrake, on 04/05/2008, -1/+5guilty as charged. a clean desk = you're not doing any work, that's my excuse.
- InfamousAtheist, on 04/05/2008, -0/+4I know exactly how you feel. I work for a software company which provides scanning solutions to businesses.... but I have the worst time managing paper at home and in my office. I eventually go through it item by item, and hate every second of it.
Snail mail FTL - antonio97b, on 04/05/2008, -0/+4I can do it in one step.
1. Pick up your *****. - inactive, on 04/05/2008, -0/+3Mess? What mess? I know where everything is!
- bamafun, on 04/05/2008, -0/+3great tips !! I call my clutter organized clutter - but i'll have to give this a try ! =)
- rjc5056, on 04/05/2008, -0/+2How to declutter digg:
1) Create section just for the Decluttering/Organizational articles that are posted once a day.
2) Enjoy! - Lutremi, on 04/05/2008, -0/+1Exactly! You don't have any time to clean when you're working.
- rolf, on 04/05/2008, -0/+1When I have a cluttered desk (or computer desktop even), it makes me less productive because I get depressed and wonder where to even start.
- frogman54, on 04/05/2008, -0/+1Noooo...I need that original VHS version of Star Wars...even though I have to adjust the tracking every ten seconds, I have the THX remastered VHS copy, the re-release VHS copy, the laserdisc copy, the DVD collector set, and, of course, the HD version recorded on my DVR. It's the only proof I have that Greedo didn't shoot first and you'll have to pry it from my cold dead hands. I like my clutter, dammit.
- inactive, on 04/05/2008, -0/+1Messy desks are actually quite important. The messier your desk, the more your boss thinks you work. Seriously. If you're a new VP and you have to let one of two people go based solely on your first impression, do you fire the guy who looks like he has TONS of work going on, or do you fire the guy who looks like he hasnt even been there for longer than 10 minutes...
- nikkesen, on 04/05/2008, -0/+1Wow... it's my desk after I clean up the garbage!
- Thugacation, on 04/05/2008, -0/+1Thanks, I'll pass this advice along to my 7 year old sister.
She can't keep her bedroom clean for more than 2 days! - Cornrider, on 04/05/2008, -1/+1If I followed the guidelines in this article I'd never get it done. It's too detailed. I use BROAD concepts like: 'get all the damn trash out of the house', after I'm done: 'put all the nasty ass clothes in bags and set them aside to wash later', ...after that: 'put things where they belong', then: 'clean countertops, surface of tables, etc and the last step is to get all the little details. It works great if I have the latest R.I.A.A. pirated good playing in the background, ***** THE R.I.A.A!!! ***** cleaning too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- minxdragon, on 05/13/2008, -0/+0I have a lifetime of messy habits to make up for. I am such a pack rat and clutter monkey and I hate it! thanks for these tips, I think even I will be able to handle some of these!
- pepperminteel, on 04/05/2008, -0/+02 days! thats fairly good compared to the 6 hours my flatmate's reached!
- JayCareerSearch, on 04/10/2008, -0/+0I have tried several times, and failed as much, in getting my desk in order. I hope to get things in tip-top shape again. I'm beginning to lose my mind looking for things. It's crazy. Even my email inbox, my docs, are hopeless. Great article, by the way. I hope to follow through in gtting things organized.
- frantzpan, on 04/05/2008, -0/+0Same!
- inactive, on 04/05/2008, -4/+2If zenhabits is so good at running their life, then how come that have to pay people to submit and digg their stories to earn a living?
- inactive, on 04/05/2008, -10/+2slightly off topic, but:
It is amazing to me that so many people who should know better continue to heap
accolades upon Hillary Clinton. Senator Phil Gramm (R-Texas) recently called the
Senator from NY, ‘the greatest Scorpio of the Century’. If this kind of
adulation were not so stupid it would be comical. It must create in the mindset of the
Senator that she is omnipotent when it comes to the opposite sex. It is something akin to
the English Stuart Kings, who were adamant about their belief in the ‘divine right of
kings’. Charles 1 was executed by Parliament after he had been defeated in the English
Civil War and James II was ostracized from England, after the ‘Bloodless Revolution’.
If Ms Clever Clogs suffers the same fate of James II, perhaps Queen Elizabeth will
welcome her to England, where she has conveyed on Ms October an honourary knighthood in
consideration of her outstanding efforts as the world’s most deadly caucasion.
When this 2008 winter has reached its coldest and bleakest moment, Ms. pretty - Clever Clogs will be vilified by those who have borne the brunt of her grandiose seductive
experiment. It has been an abysmal failure and one that will bring severe financial
distress to many Americans and to millions of others around the world!
