- bluehouse, on 07/14/2009, -0/+16That's a relief. I always thought Stormtrooper groping was something we kept in the family
- adremali, on 07/14/2009, -1/+13my father threw me off a cliff into the ocean at age 5 and told me if i didn't find my way back home in exactly a year i wasn't welcome in the family.
- redxii, on 07/14/2009, -2/+12What about getting a driver's license in the U.S.? You can't live and get around in many places without one.
- freshgrease, on 07/14/2009, -1/+11Done the hunter's right of passage. Had to cover myself in it and keep it on for three days (the rest of the hunt). Not as bad as it seemed considering I had to gut and dress the deer by myself. Word of advice: stay clear of the scent glands on the lower legs of the males and get the ***** sack out as soon as possible so you won't ruin the meat.
- boozedrinker, on 07/14/2009, -1/+10I LEARNED TO DRINK MY BACON AT A VERY YOUNG AGE.
- wynja, on 07/15/2009, -0/+6The redneck coming of age is horse *****. I grew up in a redneck town, and nobody's redneck daddy was going to spend that much money on their kid. Seriously, where do people come up with these hillbilly myths.
- soulonfire928, on 07/14/2009, -0/+4That's not a rite of passage, that's just moronic.
- adremali, on 07/14/2009, -2/+6i suspected it would involve incest
- vashth3stampede, on 07/15/2009, -0/+3dugg for one page
- MargotCross, on 07/14/2009, -3/+6redneck coming of age is pretty sweet..
- snafflepaffle, on 07/15/2009, -0/+3I think they missed one. The rite of passage where young men are required to insert their hands into gloves lined with stinging ants. Hard core.

Or what about the vine-platform jumping?

- Buckwyld, on 07/15/2009, -0/+2Well, at least they put "shellbacking" in there. However, they forgot about "blue nose." Oh well, can't have them all I guess.
- luxxu, on 07/14/2009, -1/+3the new generational right of passage is to pwn some noob ass and tell them how you did it.
until then, you're just a noob. - piattorney, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2Finally a story worth digging and tweeting!
- sedatedbylife, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2Rumspringa!!! Wooo!
- Jeebugorn, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1one of my soldiers did that exact thing.

And Rumspring-a - wynja, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1Too ***** bad it's not real.
- shipwreck58, on 08/01/2009, -0/+1From the Article:
"Navies from around the world hold a special ship-wide “ceremony” for all the sailors on-board who cross the Equator the first time. The “Crossing the Line” ceremony, as it’s called, crosses every line it can. These floating debaucheries can get so out of hand, that the legality is sketchy at best, and just about every rule goes out the window. It’s tradition for these guys to dress up in drag and eat things that should not be seen, much less eaten. While it may have been tamed some in the last few years as more and more women are aboard naval vessels these days, the party still goes on, turning “pollywogs” into “shellbacks” one shipload at a time."
Clearly the author didn't do much research here especially with regards to the U.S. Navy. Any trusty and loyal Shellback will tell you that.
Otherwise though, it's a pretty good article. - inactive, on 07/29/2009, -0/+1I've never understood the celebrating High School graduation thing. In the rest of the world it's not considered a great achievement - and it shouldn't be. You do a few years of high school, you finish. So what? It's one of those "happens by default so who cares" kind of things
- MonkeyNews, on 07/15/2009, -1/+2What the hell!?! - I can't believe they forgot the Klingon 'Age of Ascension' rite of passage:
"The Klingon Age of Ascension is the time when a Klingon child officially becomes a warrior.
The final initiation ceremony involves the use of painstiks, as the celebrant walks along a line of warriors, intoning: "Today I am a warrior. I must show you my heart. I travel the River of Blood."
-http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Age_of_Ascension - desertDenizen, on 08/02/2009, -0/+1FTA: "...less than half of all Americans both go to college and actually finish a four-year degree."
Fewer?
Just sayin'. - Aurati, on 07/14/2009, -3/+3toilets <---
