Yet another study of the habits of the overstimulated, short-attention span yuppie ***** of today. Whatever happened to being happy just sitting around? Why must every spare minute be devoted to self-improvement, self-enlightenment, and a laundry list of Exciting Things(tm)? This is the same set of insecure wankers who likely overschedule their kids to death with karate, little league, swim lessons, play dates, and so on.
If you're that fundamentally unhappy in your own skin... afraid of the things you'll think about or notice when you don't have something to distract you... you have problems that aren't going to be solved by this article. - mrroarke, on 04/16/2008, -3/+12The one and only tip you'll ever need:
Be of the mindset that productivity is ***** overrated. - gandhii, on 04/16/2008, -0/+7From article: "Use Your Social Circle - Csikszentmihalyi noticed that flow didn’t only come from work and mental tasks, but socializing as well. Conversing with friends is actually a fairly complex mental task, requiring you to read signals and body language, think fast and respond to comments."
[G] thanks for describing the mundane mechanic details of having a social interaction.. in order to make it sound not as blatantly obvious as it really is... so moronic.. it hurts. - mirunit, on 04/16/2008, -0/+4Double check.
- philomatic, on 02/08/2009, -3/+7How does one measure the size of his happenis?
- killbert24, on 04/16/2008, -8/+12#1. More masturbation.
- babylonian, on 04/16/2008, -0/+4With a name like Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, he's probably spending the majority of his lunch breaks just signing out from work.
- D3koy, on 04/16/2008, -0/+4Do you even read the stories before you spam them with your nonsense and ads?
no, you don't...buried and blocked - darwiniandemon, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3Having a child can occupy you for a good 18 years or so.
- apeguero, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3So it's Highly Chick-sent-me-highly then? Must be really popular with the ladies.
- tcpip4lyfe, on 04/16/2008, -0/+314. Play frisbee golf everyday as an excuse to drink
- mirunit, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3A bit off-topic but Csikszentmihalyi is a really awesome last name.

- woofers07, on 04/16/2008, -0/+3awesome, I didn't need to read anymore after I saw games on the list.
- hookai, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2I should just make a short comment here, and then read the whole article later when I get some free time.
- SlechtValk, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2get a life and a girlfriend...
- Rikkochet, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2Did anybody else notice this one: "Exercising can releases hormones in your brain which improve your mood."
I take that to mean: FIRST DRAFT: "Exercising releases hormones in your brain which improve your mood."
Author: "*****. I have no idea what I'm talking about, better be vague so I have an out." SECOND DRAFT" "Exercising CAN release[s] hormones in your brain which improve your mood." - learn2, on 04/16/2008, -2/+4research in.... Csikszentmihalyiahsdfeas? yeah... about that.
- WoollyMittens, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2What is this free time I keep hearing about?
- mearom, on 04/16/2008, -2/+4#3 more WoWsterbation
- SPThom, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2I could agree to the frustrations of "free time", but not because of a lack of structure or rules... At work I know my bosses only expect eight hours of work in an eight-hour day, more or less... But outside of work I feel I've got a million things to do and they all need done now. Get freelance work going, work on my personal projects, spend time playing games & watching shows with my wife, look for houses, look for pets... I love my life, but I really wish I had more time to spend on it. I wish I could get paid the same amount to do the same amount of work in LESS time... say, 2 days a week... Even though it'd be break-neck stressful there, the extra time at home would be more than worth it.
- gronkpan, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2You make that sound like it means something.
- ctfinnegan, on 04/16/2008, -0/+2yeah, did you read? http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/3072021.stm
- galvanize, on 04/16/2008, -2/+3Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi is the author of a book called "Flow".. a book that is widely embraced by the self improvement blogging community.
- galvanize, on 04/16/2008, -1/+2ain't nothin' like the fresh new feeling of a new pair of SOCKS!
- qbsean10, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1These aren't really tips, as much as they are vague reminders of normal activity. Honestly, what other options are there to do in your free time other than what is listed? Pick anything and you can apply it to any bullet on here.

- MLisa, on 04/16/2008, -1/+2Re:"Exercising can releases hormones in your brain which improve your mood." I believe this to be very true. I do a lot of gardening. Not only is it exercise, but there is a great satisfaction from viewing (and eating) the results. I have made good friends with my neighbor this way. I joke with her that I have a cardboard sign that reads "Will weed for food." I pull weeds at her house; plant flowers, prune... She cooks me dinner once or twice a week. A great friendship has developed over the garden fence. She is 72.
