- nysescalper, on 02/14/2008, -6/+15A great article about something most people would have a hard time doing - loving thy enemy
- RoadWarriorX11, on 02/14/2008, -0/+8It's ok George Bush -
We still love you anyways - dareyoutomove, on 02/14/2008, -1/+8Love is not merely a feeling, it's a decision. Ultimate love is sacrificial to the core. True love is loving someone when it hurts your too. Does that make you weak? In other's eyes, yes. However, anyone who can have the strength of character to serve and love their enemies are far stronger than their enemy.
If our world followed this philosophy, think of what it would be like. - alevel27mage, on 02/14/2008, -2/+8Seriously... this has been cycling the internet for what, 2,000 years now?
- threepio, on 02/14/2008, -4/+10Love they enemy?

Can it be done? Sure - but do you have the guts to look past your own prejudices and see the people you're hating? - schnibitz, on 02/15/2008, -0/+6Agreed. Love IS a choice. One problem with this world is that people tend to think that love is about what they get. It not about that. It's about what you put into a relationship even knowing you may not get anything back.
- Devotia, on 02/14/2008, -10/+16Loving your enemy is good, no doubt. But I think that what is best in life is to crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women.
- neo912, on 02/14/2008, -2/+7I think this is funny. There is just no winning for Christian ideals on digg. This is very possible to do people. Not saying its easy but I have gotten out of more than one tricky situation by just being nice to *****. It works try it sometime.
- bamafun, on 02/14/2008, -5/+10loving your enemy can't hurt - because when you hate or don't forgive - you give them power over you that they don't deserve to have! =)
- tringtring, on 02/14/2008, -5/+10Great is the man who is able to objectively look for strengths in his enemy and make those strengths his own...
- DrMonkeyLove, on 02/14/2008, -8/+11This could all simply be solved by killing your enemy in 1 step. That seems easier and more satisfying.
- MrErr, on 02/14/2008, -0/+3The article seems to go on the assumption that one's enemies does not include state enemies. When Jesus meant enemy he meant someone who hated you, so this could even be an enemy of the state or someone who hates you but you do not hate them. I am sure there are people who hates us just because we are americans. According to Jesus we are still to love them.
- Singularitarian, on 02/14/2008, -3/+6Love is a feeling, and you can't just make yourself feel a particular way. You could force yourself to be nice or helpful to a person that, at an emotional level, you despise---but that is different than loving that person. Personally, I think it is twisted to ask someone to forgive or to "love" someone who has horribly wronged them. If you want to help your enemies, fine, but in many cases a better approach is to protect yourself from them if necessary, and then think of them no longer.
- Jakerzon, on 02/14/2008, -3/+6Most Important: Love Thyself.
Because sometimes you are your own worst enemy. - Kurlumbenus, on 02/14/2008, -0/+2They exist to challenge us, to make us stronger.
- solidcube, on 02/14/2008, -2/+4This is stupid. Hate and destroy your enemy. Hate is there for a reason: it's to help us maintain resolve to do what it takes to exterminate those who would hurt us. Remove your enemies from the world, or so damage them that they can no longer harm others. Wake up from the sleep of christian lies and smell the coffee.
- inactive, on 02/14/2008, -1/+3
watch out for this guy - Kurlumbenus, on 02/14/2008, -0/+2What's the point in having a nemesis if you're just going to get rid of them? Sheesh.
- DermDoc, on 02/14/2008, -8/+10Even people who bury you? Hard Leo, very hard.
- inactive, on 02/15/2008, -0/+2Ok, I don't think these people understand what a true enemy is ,an enemy is someone whom you cannot bargain with ,if I had enemies I would want them destroyed ,an enemy is someone who wants to destroy you ,for some most likely irrational reasons.
- dareyoutomove, on 02/14/2008, -0/+2No, and no. You're dense if you believe that these kind of people represent the teachings of Jesus.
- QuickeningYak, on 02/14/2008, -0/+2I will not turn my back on an enemy unless I know he's incapable of doing harm to me. Period. In what way is that a lack of wisdom? Anything else is self-destructive because it's unmitigated risk.
- shauncorleone, on 02/14/2008, -2/+4You must at least appreciate the existence of your enemy, in your quest to crush them. Understand their strengths and their weaknesses, and understand that without enemies, you are virtually insignificant in the grand scheme of things.
- Kurlumbenus, on 02/14/2008, -0/+2Uncreative is the man who speaks in quotations or parabels.
- Kurlumbenus, on 02/14/2008, -2/+4If you "Know" god is real, then you have no faith. Faith is belief DESPITE a lack of surity. Conclusion: You are going to hell.
- Kurlumbenus, on 02/14/2008, -0/+2But have you solved the riddle of steel?
- JohnboiWaltune, on 02/15/2008, -1/+2delete
- Olga1311, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1hating doesn't come from justifiable reason. 99% of time, the hating comes from your personal emotional perspective on what happened and whether I love the enemy od don't wouldn't make them hate me more or less. It wouldn't affect them really.
- skews13, on 02/14/2008, -2/+3i don't necassarily love my enemies. forgive them for my own self interest,is probably more accurate. my enemies damn sure know what side of the street to stay on though. for their own self interests.
- Lososaurus, on 02/14/2008, -3/+4Maybe if Apple fans weren't so zealous and steadfast that I'm a terrible person for using WIndows, I'd extend a hand a friendship, but years of being subjected to their douchebaggery makes me a bit hesitant.
- jordanjrholmes, on 02/15/2008, -1/+2The article's assertion that this strategy does not apply to "state enemies" seems, to me at least, to negate its point entirely. If the strategy is useful, then presumably the greater the animosity and stakes, the more incentive there is to tickle your enemy's balls. Of course the strategy doesn't work and more importantly, it is morally reprehensible. I want to reiterate that, it is positively AMORAL to love your enemy. If the principles upon which the conflict is predicated are themselves morally defensible (I won't address here what the standards by which that can be objectively measured are... unless directly challenged) then anyone who posses an existential threat to those principles can, justifiably, only ever be met with disdain. Force is not always the answer, maybe not even mostly the answer. Empathy for your enemy is undoubtedly of crucial importance too. But, make no mistake, non-violent measures and empathy do not denote surrender (which btw is an undeniable precondition for the author's proposed love fest) they are tools in the confrontation and if they fail, and if the principles are worthy, than force is not only permissible, it is demanded.
"Love your own ***** enemies!"
-Christopher Hitchens - killachuck, on 02/14/2008, -2/+3"“Your enemy” doesn’t just mean the enemy of your state, of course. We’re not talking about terrorists or the French (kidding!) … we’re talking about people you really dislike, in any way."
Why wouldn't it appy to "enemies of your state"? Unless he was kidding, this article is half-assed. - tehxen3, on 02/14/2008, -4/+5I hate you.
- asa400, on 02/15/2008, -1/+2Brilliant.
- cfuse, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1Why would you want to do this?
- SabrinaHeaven, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1Just because you love your enemy doesn't mean you shouldn't kill him.
- chaos7, on 02/15/2008, -1/+2superb article more human beings need to read.
- psients, on 02/15/2008, -1/+2Ha! Even before I saw your name, it sounded like something only a woman would say.
- nicolaihel, on 02/14/2008, -1/+2We prolly don't want to know about your self love.
- psients, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1Sure it can, and often does. Actually, the solution is to just not be bothered with hating and not forgiving. This ability comes through reason.
- Igorlatov, on 02/24/2008, -0/+0People we call enemies are not always true enemies the way you see them. These might be simply people who don't understand us or do things we do not understand.
- WriterSD, on 02/15/2008, -1/+1LOL! Great comment. :-)

http://www.saudiy.net - bjornredtail, on 02/14/2008, -0/+0There is pleanty of good that can come of hurting someone that has wronged you. For one, it is likely to make it less likely that they will continue to comit acts of ill will aginst yoursel or others.
- ChrisMcRay, on 02/18/2008, -0/+0I totally agree with you that love is a feeling. And much live every other kind of feeling, you CAN just make (not force) yourself feel love. It's in your complete control. How? By focusing on the positives and discarding the negatives. I think everything has been explained in that article but I would like to add that just like you can control you mood (it's a feeling) by concentrating of positive thoughts, so you can control your love or hate for someone.
Dareyoutomove made the point. "However, anyone who can have the strength of character to serve and love their enemies are far stronger than their enemy. If our world followed this philosophy, think of what it would be like." Simply excellent! - ChrisMcRay, on 02/18/2008, -0/+0Excellent article! Wish everyone would read and apply. Then the world would be better off for it.
- Igorlatov, on 02/24/2008, -0/+0Probably, not all enemies deserve our love, even if they are not terrorists or enemies of state. Yet, loving them is obviously better than hating. If you hate somebody, you hurt yourself first of all. And love helps you get onto a higher level. After reading the article, I'll think of a couple of enemies to love :))
