- anklesnap, on 06/30/2009, -0/+14great things come out of ***** situations.
- cubicledrone, on 07/01/2009, -0/+10Used to be that American companies were the center of creativity, but unfortunately American employers have become hostile to innovation and are far more interested in cutting costs by bulldozing R&D. So everyone with the slightest aptitude has been fired and left financially adrift while "employers" eat their seedcorn like the Bumpus hounds on Christmas.
Between 1953 and 1973, the median income in the U.S. DOUBLED. During that time, we invented (among other things):
1. The Saturn V
2. The first civilian medical airlift program
3. The Integrated Circuit
4. The Interstate Highway System
5. The Internet
We also landed on the moon. Why? Everyone was working. Why? Rectangle-head assbags weren't obsessed with "cutting costs" so they could stuff more money their ass.
Since 1973, the median income has dropped 16%, and we haven't invented or built ***** since Apollo. Have a nice day. - donalddugg, on 06/30/2009, -0/+8Nylon Nike boots even today look much more stylish than any of modern shoes.
- RobertWright, on 08/13/2009, -0/+6Dugg for Twinkies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Kriztov, on 07/01/2009, -1/+5These inventions are great, but I"m STILL waiting on my electric blanket mobile.
- Gumphlumph, on 07/01/2009, -0/+4Hopefully this recession trigger some new creative thinking and greener tech. Necessity is the mother of invention after all.
- primatage, on 06/30/2009, -0/+3Diet Coke is still the best.
- skit4king, on 07/01/2009, -0/+2Recession, we welcome you! Now someone invent wireless power so I don't have to charge my laptop!
- macmcraeart, on 07/01/2009, -0/+2Modern shoes? Today every shoe in every athletic shoe store in the US was designed > 20 years ago.

Did you miss all of the innovation in science, technology, and medicine in the 70's, 80's, 90's, and 00's? The vast majority of that comes from American R&D! I understand your point but you are talking out your ass! - Loki101, on 07/01/2009, -0/+2ALL HAIL THE DEEP-FRIED TWINKIE
- robbiedo, on 07/01/2009, -0/+2Just for the taste of it...
- robbiedo, on 07/01/2009, -0/+1I hate the Internet. When I hear the word "Twinkie," I don't think of a creme filled sponge cake, anymore.
- dexter311, on 07/01/2009, -1/+2Sorry dude, but the Germans built their first Autobahn from Cologne to Bonn back in the 30's...
Otherwise, I agree - the people that bring value to companies these days are all too often let go before the money-sucking management tossbags all in the name of cutting costs. - PeppermintPig, on 07/01/2009, -0/+1Agreed.
Quality of life IS improving, which can be attributed to discoveries in science and greater economic efficiency in general. However, the cost of living is rising drastically, which goes against this point. Because of rapid government growth, taxation, waste, etc, and Federal Reserve inflation of the money supply we get to see the great benefits wash away.
Things could be MUCH better if more people would choose liberty. - antdude, on 07/01/2009, -0/+1Made me hunger for one!!
- cubicledrone, on 07/01/2009, -0/+0What have we built since 1975 that competes with the Apollo program? Or the Integrated Circuit? Or the Internet?
A lot of smart people have been fired since 1975. Face the facts. - LoudMusic, on 07/01/2009, -5/+3This recession?
iPhone.
Oh, and Michael Jackson died.
