- maiku00, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17too bad the resolution blows ass
- Giga, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16Please don't use "pic", "picture" is correct. /sarcasm
- jbert, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14Even if it is fake, it makes a great desktop.
- technoredneck, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Someone's been playin' too much Majora's Mask.
- proph3t, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9reminds me of a nightmare i had where the moon crashed into the earth. scary stuff
- Matix947, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9"wow" is right!
- gekkoeye, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8"Corel Photo Painted" to be exact. http://www.flickr.com/photos/licya/481881310/
- AnteChronos, on 10/10/2007, -6/+12Please don't use "thru", people. It's not a real word, no matter how many "drive thru" signs you see. "Through" is correct.
On-topic, that's definitely a nice pic, even if it is photoshopped. - slote, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6It's almost too bad that it doesn't look like that in real life...almost. I guess it's the price we pay for having an atmosphere.
- bradallen18, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5it's explained in the "comment" about the photo.
she (i believe) took this photo http://www.flickr.com/photos/licya/476440729/in/photostream/
and added the water effect. - foo25, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Anyone else see the very obvious box around the moon which is lighter than the rest of the sky...?
- dbr_onix, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6"Fake" is a little harsh. It's not a photo, like lots of images you see. Paintings aren't "fake" so why should this be considered as such?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Too bad they didn't take more time to perfect this edit job. It just screams fake to the point of being cheesy. It's definitely a nice idea though. I'd like to try and get this shot for real some day.
- Crosbie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Nice photo, but utterly misleading article title as explained by the photographer. Inhumed.
- Namco, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Something about this image pisses me off. When I look at it, I know it's impossible for a million different reasons. It is clearly a photoshopped and manipulated image of the moon. Looks like something I'd see in World of Warcraft than in real life. The creator could just as easily have photoshopped in a deathstar superlaser cannon well on it and it'd look just as realistic.
- Ecstasy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4http://reddit.com/info/2ksha/comments
It appears that the comments on REDDIT have already analyzed how the effect was gotten
But the comments on Flickr is full of praise
http://www.flickr.com/photos/licya/481881310/ - ahpro, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Do you think these people just copy and paste "It is photoshopped" to all of these pictures?
- dbr_onix, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Of course it's "fake"
- If you take a picture of the moon properly exposed, the stars will not be visible (A 1second exposure should be enough for a photo of the moon)
- If you take a picture to get the stars like they are in the image, you'd completely over expose the moon. To get the reflection it'd need a longer exposure than the moon itself would..
So yes, it's technically impossible to take that photo. But who cares?! It's a decent image, "real" or not - richgustavson, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3SIMPSONS DID IT
- Smartkidz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Lol that was a great game too. Too bad OoT gets more recognition.
- TrainingName, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Holy mother of *****!
I'm not impressed. - Featherlake, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Just to put and end to the thoughts of any doubters out there: http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/7439/earthfe1.jpg
- Xenogis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Its fake, but not for those reasons
- gypsyjoe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Modded up for use of "inhumed".
- bringonts2, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2They said on the flikr page that it wasn't real, but even so it still looks cool.
- scabbers, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Pretty lame... please drive thru.
- greatcaffeine, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2That's pathetic. You can get a filter for Photoshop that will do the water effect for you in about 2 seconds.
Buried as lame. - Nick5309, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1oh..........my.......GOD THERE'S WATER ON THE MOON!!!!!111111111111111ONE
- gentooian, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Fake!
- WNxKelevra, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Nice resolution if your running a 386.
Like Fragsta said, before you dugg the ***** out of his comment, this isnt even that good you tards. - ahecht, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE
- bobthegorilla, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0To anyone who doesn't see the box: your display's colour response sucks.
- BHSPitMonkey, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1OMG THE MOON IS SINKING
- SmokeAbowl, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1To bad you couldn't get this beauty in real life.
- gl77, on 03/31/2008, -1/+1hello new desktop background.
- dallasjfreeman, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2As if the water would look like that if it was a real photo. Complete fake!
I also see the lighter box around the moon. - BHSPitMonkey, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1OMG THE WORLD IS SINKING
- kingn0thing1989, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1photoshop!!! i have those things ive made like 20 of those style pics
- bobthegorilla, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0At least "pic" is an abbreviation. "Thru" is just unutterably low-brow.
- bobthegorilla, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Because - paintings don't purport to be an exact reproduction, whereas the misleading description by the submitter suggests that this is. Besides, paintings take more skill; this, while not a bad attempt, is _very clearly_ manipulated. The water and the stars - the added elements - are far too regular.
- crushfan, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Welcome to my desktop moonie.
- thomashauk, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Makes you appreciate the big old rock
- fragsta, on 10/10/2007, -5/+4Sorry to be a killjoy, but... it looks pretty fake to me. The stars aren't nice-looking at all, not to mention realistic because of the resolution, and you can see a lighter shade of the black of the night sky in a box around the moon, PLUS the resolution of the moon is quite low too. Why is this being so praised?
- NoMoon, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2The page itself explains that the moon photograph is real, and the water is not. Buried as inaccurate.
- taylooooor, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1To anyone who sees the box: you need to adjust your display gamma.
- BHSPitMonkey, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Nah, just the ones that clearly -are- manipulated.
- Koski, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1If anyone finds it in a higher resolution, maybe widescreen too, post a comment with a link and we'll digg ya up!
- guybrush3000, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0it's definately a water shader from a 3d app in front of a plane with the moon image on it. I think it ruins the photo. The water looks way too systematic and digital. there's no finesse to its implimentation. Why do people think this is cool?
- Exploit, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Definitely fake. The water is too calm to be of the ocean. And both the moon and the water is at focus at the same time, which is impossible.
