- alantocheri, on 10/12/2007, -1/+59How do you UN-my#1 a story??
- jayadelson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+59No, no impact on the promotion of stories here. This is a feature we plan on enhancing over time, as we draw more attention to stories people want hilighted on their profiles.
- DesertSquirrel, on 10/12/2007, -9/+63Isn't this kind of redundant? I always figured that by digging a story, you were adding it to a #1 list of sorts. Maybe in Digg 2.0 when you couldn't search your Digg list, I could see this working, but now it just feels a bit out dated.
- Kbennett, on 10/12/2007, -1/+52...and if we accidentally click the button, how does one un #1 a story?
- Popdmb, on 10/12/2007, -3/+44I think they realize that people Digg stories haphazardly to come back to them later. The My #1 thing seems to eliminate that problem. You have to consciously choose its importance.
A digg so nice you digg it twice. - bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -3/+37And the implementation is a little over the top. Surely a small [+] in the corner of the yellow digg box could serve as a "add to favourites" once it's dugg..
that big blue box thing is ugly to regulars and confusing to newbies... - shitthisfook, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27But all stories that you marked #1 will still be in that tab called My #1! Not that My#1 thing you see as soon as you click your profile. You can't remove any from *that* folder even if you undigg it, which is ANNOYING.
- mks06, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26True, but I guess if you get into the habit of digging so many stories that your #1 list becomes a maze.....you can have another list, for extra special diggs. Dunno. I can see how it could be useful for some people.
- DisposableRob, on 10/12/2007, -5/+30I don't know, it seems kind of redundant.
- hemphill81, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23Kevin posted a comment in one of the other stories about this.
http://digg.com/tech_news/Digg_Adds_New_My_1_Story_Feature#c3021948
quoting Kevin
"done - 'un #1' coming soon!" - Nougat, on 10/12/2007, -6/+28Yeah, it's pretty redundant.
- bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -6/+27totally totally redundant
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20You don't, you just add a new story as your number 1 and it replaces it.
- MaddDog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18This isn't exactly redundant - it's like a special digg, and its unique. It's like saying "There are many diggs, but this one is mine".
I can see some other features being built on top of this. For example, a top list of stories that most users consider to be their #1. It would be interesting to see if this list was correlated with the "most dugg" list or not. - g0tmk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19yea that would be usefull - i accidentally marked some random story as my #1 to see what the button would do - and cant remove it
edit: thanks, you replied right when i posted this :) - DisposableRob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Is the front page all wonky for everyone else? It's all full of four day old stories. Is this the new algorithm?
- uptown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Out with the old, in with the .... old?
- Djerrid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I'm waiting for Friends' #1s to have it's own row under Friends' Activity .
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I did that too, out of curiosity, and did it to a story I didn't regard all that much precisely to use it as a test. Oh, well....
Moral: announce the feature first, then implement it. Or give the button a hover-description. - jayadelson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Going too fast?
- playfulmind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9of the people who didn't see this post first ---
I bet over 60% of them accidentally chose to lock-in the first article they saw with a My#1 option---- just to test it out...
and then scrambled for the diggtheblog explanation...
and then realized they'd just have to wait for the next roll out before they could un-#1 that random digg... - Choaderboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Yes - this must be the effect of the number 1 feature - it seems to have an additional effect on a storie's promotion... like a +2 digg...
Maybe people have been making older stories number 1 and therefore they're getting re-promoted.
Seems a bit screwy to me. - oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8to me, this is completely backwards.
you should digg stories that you feel are the most important stories and have a "story-marking" key that separates stories into a group that you can go back to later and review.
you should also be able to "unmark" those stories, so you can remove them from the grouping after review. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Not really, digging is a very soft vote that you like it or want to find it later. We've seen a lot of people digg to bookmark and not to honestly "vote" as best story, in the same way people don't limit themselves to just their real friends on MySpace.
This is a step in the right direction -- adding a little extra purpose into all of this general attention activity. - jayadelson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9A lot of stories getting dugg this morning...
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12I for one like this new feature a lot! Something I have been waiting for.
- oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"...and if we accidentally click the button, how does one un #1 a story?"
exactly.
example: http://www.idontlikeyouinthatway.com/2006/09/brooke-shields-picks-it-and-eats-it.html
my hard-hitting story of the day. - dbuttry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I would like to see a way to "bookmark" a story without digging it. Maybe the site is down and you want to come back to it later to check out. It would be nice to be able to have my own folder structure of bookmarks so I can save items in an organized manor so I can easily find them later.
- radicaldementia, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I don't see any old stories....but I do see a ***** of stories that looks like they just got promoted, the whole front page is filled with stories
- Popdmb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Ok the front page is getting obnoxious...this story was pushed down to fourth in about 3 minutes. Jay or Kevin, are you guys still tweaking it?
- kevsedg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The worst thing about the digg downtime was the recommend link of ebaumsworld.com. WAS THAT A JOKE?
Isn't linking to that site some kind of Internet Crime? - DisposableRob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5No, it's been there for awhile.
- vudicarus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4you have to undigg first, then redigg.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Are you taking any prescription medication? Of course, I'm an excellent driver.
- TheWalkingDude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Going too fast?'
The front page feels a bit like the que - by the time I read an article or watch a video, that submission will already be a page ahead of where I left off. Maybe I just need more caffeine. I do like the My #1 feature. - happyfappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+41) Anything you set to be "My #1" goes into the "My #1"s tab, and if you click on the "My #1" button while in the "My #1" tab, it sets that story to be your #1 My #1. This is utterly confusing. I can understand having "My Top Diggs" and then have one of those be "My #1" but having a category of diggs all called "#1" of which you can choose a "#1" (a #1 #1) makes no sense to me.
And btw, I like the idea of being able to sort your diggs in some way; I think adding this kind of feature is a good thing, I just think the implementation of it is confusing. A personal rating or tagging feature would be better; at least changing the name to "My Top Diggs" would help.
2) There doesn't seem to be any way of getting a story out of the "My #1" tab once it's been added. Even undigging it / redigging it won't work. It gets removed from your diggs, but it bizarrely stays in you #1's. You can replace what your #1 #1 is, though. (If you don't know what I mean by #1 #1, see #1 above.) - kuratkull, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Omg, the "My#1" button looks as ugly as hell :/
and the location - let's even not talk about it - DigiDave, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I was just noticing the front page too. It looks like old stories got promoted. Either something is wrong or the new algorithm is setting in.
- Thorpe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Digg should have one of these for stories that you can come back to when the site is down.
- antdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3therernospoons: I wonder if they even had a QA and usability team testing.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I checked a story MY#1 just for a test and now I can't un-MY#1 it! I don't like this.
- bluephoenix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5how long before they convert digg to a myspace type website, that seems to be where they're going, what with the focus on the profile and friends.
- oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i was going to make the same comment, the page is a mess. this is depressing as *****.
- GaryKing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's a feature that's useful to some, but useless to most. Redundant. Should at the most be an option that is disabled by default.
- Inbal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I haven't tried this yet since the stories today aren't great and it looks like this is irreversible for now, but I think it would be good to have one My #1 a day and sort all My #1s according to date of digging, which will create a record of "what interested me on this day on that year?..." and maybe making it more useful. It should also be counted as a double-digg, in my opinion.
I agree that My #1 isn't a very elegant description... How about "highlights"? - kbarrett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@*****
Noticed that too. But it's just a bug and they are fixing it. - mojaam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The button looks a bit too big but I guess it appears that way because it's new or something.
- The_Wallbanger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It's cool because now I can go back to all of my past diggs and pull out the ones from months ago that I still use on a regular basis. You know, like the color generators, or the desktop wallpaper sites. It'll be nice to actually have a place set aside for the repeat visits.
Digg once for story promotion. Digg twice if you might use the link regularly. - kbarrett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I have to agree. I'm not crazy about the button or the placement. It's distracting. But I suppose they wanted it to be prominent. I think the name is a little hokey, too. Just call it what it is, a 'favorites' section and make a simple 'star' icon or something and put it near the bottom and be done with it.
- Vryz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There needs to be way to backout of the choice, even if it's just a 2 minute window like comment editing.

What is Digg?
