- Singee15, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is great, I love the zoom on it.
Can google maps be skinned like this? If not, I think we have a winner. - dude3609, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Can google maps be skinned like this? If not, I think we have a winner."
It is possible to do with flash.
Ever hear of flashearth.com ?
Anyways, I dont see any real point in this, but it does look real good nonetheless.. Good enough for a digg. - lobbster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1um its the telescope idoit
- the-rip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0kinda pointless
- TomGu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks great in ie, but not so effective in Opera or firefox.
- DocHolliday, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Why is this on the front page, this is pointless....
Pirates are very cool, but this map is not.....
No digg.... - erissiva, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pretty cool... +digg
Doesn't matter if its pointless - it takes an existing technology and makes it look cooler. - BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Another site dead by the Digg effect?
Or does my internet connection just suck? - tj9991, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pretty cool, might give some businesses another way to flare getting directions to their office/etc
- dolby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Should we use the word pirate, I mean they did just hijack my cruise ship, ohh well i guess i will fire some sonic torpedoes.
- juboodi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0does this work in firefox?
- JacksonBrown, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Re: juboodi
Use a good browser like IE or Safari and you won't have any problems - faux323, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yes, works fine in firefox. no, the site isn't suffering digg effect. and yes, you can do this in google.
- salmonmoose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0and with google you get maps outside the US
- sorriso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not all that useful, but impressive nonetheless. I Digg.
- ptbarnett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Worked with Firefox for me. But, the spyglass effect is reversed. Extending the tube increases the focal length, which increases apparent magnification.
- stynesteen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"you can do this in google." - faux323
uhmm, no actually you can't. - n3tfury, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"I can't digg this. Where is the zoom out control? Piss-poor UI."
and YES works in FF. - Philbert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Yarrgh! I've found me house where me booty is buried. "X" marks the spot."
Very cool +digg! - MAdaXe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Doesn't work in FF for me.
- kwilliam71, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Are! Me likes it maties.
- thegreenarrow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0shouldn't the map be zoomed in when the telescope is longer and zoomed out when the telescope is shorter?
- esteban, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Looks like you need to have Flash Player 8 installed otherwise it looks totally different, in fact, it looks very poor in player 7, hence the comment: "I can't digg this. Where is the zoom out control? Piss-poor UI."
- kymehra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0digg? y'argh! looks cool.
- camintmier, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Argh! That be better lookin' than a box full'a booty.
- magister, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yahoo maps plus a jpeg that makes it look like a pirate map around it? 10 minutes of web design? No digg for you.
- itsmrdumass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You need Flash 8 for it to render correct. Else it looks like a plain map.
- matx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Arrr, im a pirate.
- mikeazorin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As much as I'd like to say this is cool, it's not.
- Panoctopi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Boring
- navinjohnson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very cool, unfortunately only in IE do you get the full effect (zoom, properly rendered map).
- orb_nsc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0^^^^ I'm getting the full effect in Opera. I digg it!
- navinjohnson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm a flippin' idiot. It just needs Flash 8 to work properly (as already mentioned above).
- Mongoose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yar.
- flavrsaver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love Flash 8!
- hendoz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Other than looking neat,it seems useless.
- f1gm3nt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Take a turd and put a left butt check on the left side of it and take a right butt check and put it on the right side. It's the same thing as this map!
- Swift2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't know if this is anything but a demo -- but think of putting a searchable map on your website. I presume, if parchment is possible, then lots of other looks are. The spyglass sucks as an interface. But Yahoo has some technology going here that Google doesn't have, and they'll have to do some thinking. Google's actual maps are a lot better, but the imaging tech of Yahoo is bery, bery good.
- vperez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah this seem to work for me either. There's no spyglass to drag around just a map of the gulf coast on some scroll looking thing...
- bobbyj1049, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the map is wrong bethel park is in the wrong place
- unclejesse0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Would be a lot cooler if the actual map was made to look different.
- bluefire0728, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"The project's point is to explore the flexibility of Yahoo! maps and how they can be integrated into the design of a site/application."
