- Tuzoid, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I bought this sofware (donation-ware) and I absolutely love it!
Great job on it yurivish!- snyff, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5I think I might buy this also. It's a great way to yell "*****!" anonymously.
- PirateFSM, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13So that was you...
- logicalaxiom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Great Job Yuri!
- dasluvaluva, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This kid is amazing!
- Koncept, on 10/12/2007, -15/+2Pretty damn solid, but does it blend?
I know old joke but I mean I just had to ask X]- Bara, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Actually, I think it blends in TOO much into the rest of the design for that site. Doesn't really make it stand out. Heck, you can't even tell it's a shoutbox until you see the Nickname and Message Text boxes at the bottom. So to answer your question, yes, it does blend. It blends very well.
- dasluvaluva, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That's why you modify the CSS on your own :) If you can't modify your own CSS, perhaps installing a PHP/Shoutbox isn't right for you ;)
- marnaq, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Poor live demo...
- mousy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Agreed.
There should be some overflow on this thing, its height depends on the size of the messages, and thats pretty poor.
- mousy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Agreed.
- rupric, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0This is great. What's a fair amount to donate for something like this?
- matthall28, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I dont have a PayPal account and don't have any way to get money into one...
- yurivish, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2I don't want to dictate an amount, but so far the majority of the donations have been $5.00.
- spikedblade, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4If your going to donate, don't do it right now, download is dead. http://yurivish.com/ys4/download.html Anyone have a mirror?
- bushawa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would be willing to pay $5-$10 bucks for this and other scripts like it.
It is hard to find good scripts with decent manuals.
A note though: I do not think the flood control is working in the demo.
Also, do you have any other projects or future projects? - phatvolvo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Hey, I've been thinking of building little scripts like this, so this is interesting. Is there anybody else out there who'd like to buy little scripts via donationware like this?
- madcaesar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1THIS IS AWESOME!!!!!!
- starfisch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1meebo me does the same thing for free?
- phprock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1how is meebo me? I haven't tried it yet.
- bushawa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3But the idea here is that he would like some support to keep building stuff. I do not think he is asking too much from us.
- Daniel591992, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Meebo me allows the visitors to talk to the admin, but it is not like a chatroom.
- dancrew32, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2meebo me lacks a lot of features.
- inkninja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Performance is great! Unfortunately, the example shout chat gave me a headache. It's fine for low volume chat but for large crowds it will need some level of non-admin filtering controls.
- phatvolvo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+152kb? it could totally be smaller, I think
- chance2002iu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1abuse prone. and I agree with inkninja, the example was a headache and filtering is definately needed.
- drewhenson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0anyone suggest something better in light of the comment above?
- val8ntin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Kudos to the author for all his hard-work, but I don't really see the need for something like this. I have yet to see an implementation where 90% of the "shouts" are not spam. Theres no need for an intermediate level between live-chat and a message-board / traditional comment system.
- mumbler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Says you. Others (me) disagree--I think someone somewhere has a "need" for an intermediate between live chat and a message board or forum. Why not?
- irekevin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I have a need for it. Low traffic site for my hobby and friends.
www.irekevin.com
I use Version 3 - I get ZERO spam.
- PunkHop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Somebody wanna make this into a Wordpress widget? I'll, um, buy you lunch or something.
- d0odx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lol peeps are trying to xss it already
- spikedblade, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Download seems to be dead for me at http://yurivish.com/ys4/download.html Anyone have a mirror?
- bugninja, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8"In order to download YShout, I require a donation to cover the hosting expenses and the time spent in development."
**** require a donation ***** ??!??!!
This would be called a payment for a product and NOT a donation.
So he needs enough money to cover his $1.50 per month hosting with 1and1.com and the 2 hours it took to create the little script? Give me a break.
Donations are voluntary. This would be donationware if you offered the program for free but accepted donations to further the development of the project.
This is a COMMERCIAL PROGRAM in a crappy disguise!!!- dasluvaluva, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Actually, he's been working on this sucker on & off for several months. Just before summer, he was on v2.x. Then he released v3.0 in the fall.
And I doubt hosting is $1.50 a month, either.
There's other shoutboxes you can grab for free. If you want to support a young developer, then feel free to. If it takes you 2 hours to do the same thing, then go do it.
Eitherway, we all know very *FEW* people ever donate for freeware/charityware apps. - jonnypage, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Totally Correct, If you REQUIRE a donation, it stops being a donation.. Covering bandwidth on a >100k web app is a lame excuse anyway..
Still, very cool :) - spikedblade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1From the Download page: "proved problematic - people spread the link"
Well I would still like my copy of the script and get my pennies worth I donated to him. Actually I don't care about the penny but he still has the donation link up when the download page hasn't worked for hours and now anyone not aware of the problem will be giving him money and will get nothing to show for it.
- dasluvaluva, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Actually, he's been working on this sucker on & off for several months. Just before summer, he was on v2.x. Then he released v3.0 in the fall.
- JrGhoull, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0ha i'm on the verg of diggin this down since theres a bunch of diff versions of this, but unlike this one, are free. I'm sure there are plenty of em that suck, but like anything on google, just serarch long enough and you'll find just what ur lookin for. In case u want an idea of where to begin, i used "website chat room" to start my search...
- csj89, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2how can anyone without paypal get it? anyway, doesn't paying for the thing before getting it beat the purpose of "donation-ware"?
- sonu27, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Come on, where are the pirates.
I'm waiting. - mesysg, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0Go to http://www.grc.com/pass for the perfect password generator!
- v3xt0r, on 10/12/2007, -6/+21) doesn't work with Firefox on Linux.
2) good luck running an app like this on a heavy-traffic site (unless you have a huge cluster of load-balanced nodes to support it).
yep... it's web2.0 compliant!!- ylikone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I am on firefox/linux and it works fine for me.
- 0KonTroL0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, I just installed this on a client's site, seems gr8 to me. what a coy-inky-dink.
- 0KonTroL0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Why do you people criticize before looking at the admin features - IT IS CUSTOMIZABLE, IMAGE THAT!1!!~!
- buzzert, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4This ISN'T donationware, why doesn't he just call it shareware.
- sonu27, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah your right.
Donationware is where donations are optional, but recommended.
- sonu27, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah your right.
- alain34, on 11/13/2007, -1/+1Well, it is like many chat / shoutcast.
I can not see what is so special about it.
Look at this url, it is more or less the same and it is freeware....
http://www.conceptuel.co.uk/index.php?transaction=chat&categorie=120&language=EN&categorieClicked=120 - abhidut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1well, idint like it...so much donation...so stuff. I rather go for cbox. It's much better. But seems like iit has got a nice look.
- rubbisher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just bought it and can only say it is absolutely worth every dime you'll donate. Great script with absolutely no problems installing or configuring it. Love it!
alain34: Not even nearly similar to the one you linked.
buzzert: you are right - but since I can define the amount, I'll live with the naming ;) - weikiat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I made a mod of yshout that allows users to create new chatrooms on the fly.
Try it!
http://www.weikiat.net/ys/index.php?id=6&roomname=digg - tuzhila, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0cool
- mnjaga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Right now yShout is not down loadable. Is this digg effect?
- PSyMastR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1so... any word on yshout's availability?
- sonu27, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can someone who has got version 4. Please upload it? Thanks.
- ATH500, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes, can somebody give us a link to download YShout version 4 ?
Thank you.
- ATH500, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes, can somebody give us a link to download YShout version 4 ?
- hozster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1where can i download at least version 3?
- varkey, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1For those who want it freeee!!!
http://yurivish.com/ys4/yshout42.zip - nvleafs, on 02/28/2008, -0/+0wow, whoever hosts this site is a retard, asking for donations when he doesn't even know how to protect his site:
