Pretty simple? Yeah, let me just grab my electron microscope and gallium beam out of the garage... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+119microbe1: what the F*ck is this on my backyard
microbe2: crop circles!! humans are real!! - corevette, on 10/12/2007, -5/+122who's gonna make the largest digg logo?

- xVern, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24I had hoped for the little digg guy. Oh well, maybe next time. Still impressive though.
- beguiledfoil, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22Shouldn't that be |nerdiness|?
- jacenat, on 10/12/2007, -6/+24us schools not using the metric system ... i can see where this leads.

- garg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Yes, but is Karen hot?
- Kickersny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12She needs to do the µTorrent logo text ... :-)
- wettestwillie, on 10/12/2007, -9/+19what's a micron?
- Exvin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14"A micrometre (American spelling: micrometer, symbol µm) is an SI unit of length equal to one millionth of a metre, or about a tenth of the size of a droplet of mist or fog."

reach behind you, grasp the stick, firmly pull it out of your rectum, relax, smile - moley, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I'm sure that was a fun "government project" at some corporation or university's expense!

Edit: Wow, I should refresh before posting something like that.... - daedalus1982, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9lol and even if it wasn't who is going to bust into the house, shoot the 92 year old and then hunt all over the place for the object thats 2 microns in length. volunteers?
- alex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I know a guy at the mall that could probably write it on a grain of rice.
- Spatulas, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9Or for more on the subject:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Micrometre - MrBobby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Am I the only one who saw the headline and thought, "1px by 1px... not so impressive".
- Pietjen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Looks pretty real to me. You can see some faint rectangles which usually occur when you focus the electron beam on the same spot for too long. Looks like she tried different magnifications before the final shot was made.
- Kuipo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Ahh. It's on a blog? It MUST be real!
- OropheR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Digged by diggers, simply.
What's the font used in the digg logo? ...me preparing something ;) - noseeme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sycophant.
- unrealmp3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The smallest Digg logo, getting digged big ;)
- invisiblegirl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sorry, it is a different FEI system.
- afbase, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1aye aye cap'n!
- coollettuce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i like mine in the GIMP better...
http://xs410.xs.to/xs410/06490/diggcoollettuce.png - alexgg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ask him for it and digg it, I know I will...
- invisiblegirl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1just a few responses:
@ datcrazydj: I have not lost the logo. It is on a fairly large piece of silicon that has it's own case, and is still with a bunch of other samples, so it should be fairly safe.
@ Dolomite: Is so real. See next comment.
@ pietjen: The faint rectangles are damage from the ion beam that I used to mill the logo. I took some images with the ion beam as well as the electron beam, so there is an area with a bit of damage from the ion beam - impossible to avoid some damage from rastering an ion beam across the surface.
In general, I was on the microscope very late one evening and my real sample preparation was not going well. I needed a small break. Bored, perhaps...Unnecessary, sure...but I'm glad that (some/enough) people can enjoy it.
I've got many more samples to make in the upcoming months. So, it might happen again. I was thinking about making the little digger guy, but milling around it so that it would be raised from the surface. Might also tackle other frivolous projects. Precision FIB skills can only be a good thing... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Why do you guys care?
- aj3289, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Can I get that engraved on my forehead??
// not that you'd see it or anything, lol - InfamousX241, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2What's with the massive influx of digging people down?
- FRuGFoREST, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just as fun as digging people's comments, more than the article itself. :) *har* *har*
- JayD16, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yeah its small....I guess.
- faradazerage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yoooo so i have a question. you wouldnt perhaps be using the FEI nanolab 600? cuz i'm having alllll kindsa problems with their autoscripting software. if anyone knows of any of these autoscripting problems can you please reply to: non.euclidian [at] gmail.com
- muka3d, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Can I get this as a bionic implant or something?
