- kuj007, on 10/12/2007, -2/+66like anyone who is exceptionally skilled at their craft... they make it look deceptively easy.
even on my 100th try, mine would look like it was drawn using my toes while riding in a stagecoach. - jguy584, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22Cool...but don't we have a video section now?
- teken894, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Yep...
here's my try

- bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I've illustrated a few of different versions of "Archie" done in the style of Frank Miller, Frank Cho & Penny Arcade (but it's lagging in the diggs department)
http://digg.com/design/Celebrity_Archie_Redesign_Archie_set_in_Sin_City_others_images
I can do up some tutorials on the different styles I've used to get the look if y'all like? - 1807, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I guess the reason it's not dugg is because everyone is trying to draw right now...
- roundntubby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The guy has some real talent, but its definitely not an instructional video.
- molecool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Man, some people just have a natural skill... sigh.... wished I could do that.
- rhesuspieces00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'll summarize the video for those with a slow connection: Start drawing. When it looks like Superman, you're done.
No, watching the video is not any more useful than that. - CLIFFosakaJAPAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Before Computers, it was common practice to use a Non Reproductive Blue Pencil to do the underlying drawing to get the base sketch done, and then go over it with a darker pen or pencil Then when it was reproduced/printed out; the blue wouldn't show up. I don't know if this still has a technical reason when done with computers or if its just habit nowadays...
- tanameyer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Bruce Timm is exceptionally skilled. He has worked on all of the DC cartoons starting from Batman: The Animated Series all the way to Justice League Unlimited (14 shows spanning 15 years). What's even more amazing is that in the first series that he was a part of (Batman: The Animated Series) they didn't use computers at all. Everything was hand drawn.
Anyway, this video is cool for any fan of Superman or any of DC Comics's superhero shows. - sgtiger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wow! I have to say, I suck ASS at drawing... this is what I came up with on my first attempt (by hand, I scanned it):
http://home.san.rr.com/sgtiger/superman.jpg - nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i don't know. It's basically just any guy with a square jaw that could be a superhero. Nothing really sets him apart as Superman except for the little backwards S in the hair.
- kal-el, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3the guy is very talented he makes this look very easy (which it is not)
check out his other videos as well
http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=gussaldanha - toshipaine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've used a WACOM for about a year. It has a much different feel than traditional pencil and paper art. It takes a lot of practice and patience to get the hand gesturing down. However once you've figured it out you can port your artistic skills into the digital medium that gives you a hell of a lot of freedom and choices.
- OregonTrail, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2cliff can get anything dugg...
- rayishu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i Drew it along with him on pen but mine looked really anime looking lol
- theOster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2also helps to have a tablet :)
- tanameyer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Here's one for Batman as well:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5bY_Uhf_HI&NR
Oops. b0nb0n already beat me to it... - thegreyfox, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5nice. but the face looks more like batman(bruce wayne) or a very older version of superman.
- b0nb0n, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3that dude can also draw batman: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5bY_Uhf_HI&mode=related&search=
- tobias1482, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2non repro blue is great and all, but it's still a little dirty since it can't be erased very easily. When I was doing indy comic art (this is also how a lot of friends still in the industry still work), I would often do thumbs of the page on typing paper for the break downs and then rough out each panel on it's own sheet using pencil and the regular Sharpie markers to get the rough forms and guide lines. I'd then go photo copy these so that I could enlarge or reduce the images to fit the panel space as needed (This was before I had a scanner and Photoshop to do the same thing). Once everything fit the panels nicely, I'd then paste it up as a 10x15 inch page and light box it onto the final board. This worked great because at this point, you're able to avoid extraneous "pencil dirt" or eraser smudge, tears, and scratches on the board. Most of the time, the inker is working directly on top of the pencils and if you destroy the under lying board, then the ink might end up bleeding.
- AngryBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Can anyone comment on his technique of rough sketching in one layer and redrawing the final copy in a new layer? It seems to work really well and I was wondering if this is a standard technique... or something he came up with on his own. Very interesting either way.
- TridenTBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yes.. This would be much simpler if we all had a drawing tablets. But a lot of us do not. My Logitech G5 cannot even help me do those kind of moves.
- anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Did anyone else think he was drawing the face front-on and wondered why the hell the left 'eye' was so big?
- napier, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Eh its alright, but definitely gets me wanting a nice drawing tablet...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Artists that do this kind of awesome works on PC really make me jealous.
- levarnus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Someone needs to tell this guy about the space bar to move the stage around instead of having to go into the Navigator every time and get jerky movements. Props to him though for putting together the little tutorial - that takes a lot of time to do all that.
- ArveeOnFire, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2What are they?
- nacs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thats not Illustrator--hes using Photoshop in the videos.
- rufug, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Awsome! No other word can cover this video, nice work (I lOVE PHOTOSHOP)
- nacs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Um, nevermind the last comment.
He seems to use different programs for different drawings.
He draws Spawn with Photoshop, Superman with Illustrator and V (from V for Vendetta) with Flash. - Nocturnal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does anyone know if this guy was using a WACAM tablet or if he uses his mouse to do all of this? It would be damn amazing if he just used his mouse.
- lmushl, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Look, it's Generic Buff Strong Guy with Cool Flippy Hair!
- democracysucks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3*sigh*
Makes me mourn over the termination of Justice League, and over the horrible portrayal of Superman by Brandon Routh. - ifoam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1From his "Batman Video":
its impossible for me to use a mouse firstly cuz im a lefty. anyways i was lucky to find this tablet from geniues that has make drawing on the pc easier. its called "wizard pen". - CLIFFosakaJAPAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not bad actually....!!
- Hodglim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think you know that is pretty good actually, which is why you posted it :)
- sirloin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1kind of cool along the same lines
http://www.drawinghand.com/
i like the drawing hand screensaver..It draws like this so you can watch but all you see are hands and cavas.
There are whole collections of art for it to draw...i have mine drawing simpsons. - tobias1482, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ AngryBoy
layering using Photoshop or lighboxing (see post above) is really common. Also, a lot of artists will also use overhead projectors (like in HS or college classrooms) when working on larger pieces such as large canvas paintings. With murals, though, you typically grid the drawing off.
It's usually easier to draw things smaller (or at your "comfortable size") and expand or shrink them for the final work. - heinous, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why can't you just use your mouse in your left hand? I'm confused.
- mylkhead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Interesting technique of using illustrator to sketch. Dugg for being about drawing. But the drawing of superman is just a side view profile of him. It's actually a lot easier than you think. It would have been better had he gone into detail about doing the rest of the figure.
- Anidzuki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah it's definately not instructional, however, he is very good at his craft.
I wonder what kind of tablet he uses. - thegreyfox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1ops meant to say batman not superman.

That is amazing!
- cass85, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Superman or Mr Incredible...?
- heinous, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1digg down
- sgtiger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thanks. =)
I wasn't meaning to brag. It was more of a surprised thing. I honestly can't draw worth *****, but following those instructions step-by-step seemed to work OK. If you asked me to do it freehand, by memory, it would come out looking like absolute trash.
I tried the batman and wolverine too:

http://home.san.rr.com/sgtiger/wolverine.jpg
I'm just saying if I can do it, any of you all can. - Licinius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Was I the only one waiting for some consummate v's?
