  • allywilson, on 10/11/2007, -5/+3You ever tried to use dvorak? ***** weird. To be able to get used to it you need to rearrange your actual keys though - which is a bit of a pain really.

My speeds have gone up dramatically and i don't need to "peck type" anymore. The best part is though, that it keeps my parents and friends off of my computer when I'm not around =D.

          I bet it was your transition, not Dvorak itself, which helped you avoid pecking. Had you put the same amount of effort and forced focus into learning Qwerty, you'd type just as well.
    • MrTankJump, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Yes I have, I actually made a Dvorak keyboard, and it's much more comfortable than QWERTY, seeing how it's designed around being the arrangement that is the fasted for typing in English, and also helps prevent Carpal-tunnel. You have to remember that QWERTY was designed SPECIFICALLY to slow typing down so that it doesn't jam mechanical keyboards, and yet the schools are still teaching children QWERTY.

      For the record, I never switched key caps when I switched to Dvorak. In fact, 4+ years later, my keyboard is still arranged QWERTY (they don't fit any other way). Doesn't bother me one bit.

I personally can't stand that (I've used that ugly Microsoft keyboard that does that before). Is it that much more ergonomic to have a couple more inches between your hands?

If you want to buy unusual ergonomic keyboards try here: http://store.ergocube.com/pckeyboards.html They're non-profit and donate proceeds to charity. They deal entirely with ergonomic solutions.

    As for mice, I'm a huge fan of the vertical mouse http://store.ergocube.com/evsu.html. They used to be found in CompUSAs but now just online.

    each key has it's own tiny display and it's context sensative. When your playing quake the actions are little icons on the keys themselves, likewise for photoshop and others etc etc.

    btw: dvorak is really better (=faster) then qwerty, cuz qwerty was designed to slow typing down cuz of mechanical keyboard jamming....
