- brianbb98, on 10/10/2007, -9/+198Photoshopped.
- oMeSSiaHo, on 10/10/2007, -4/+49It was cool save for the sparkle things. Honestly, how often does glass look like its shooting laser beams at you?
- Nobiting, on 11/01/2007, -5/+49Looks very Vista-ish
- kenvsryu, on 11/01/2007, -1/+37Transparent is the new black.
- Popdmb, on 11/01/2007, -4/+36Well-written, informative, and useful. How the hell did this make the front page? It doesn't even say [pic] in the title...
*scratches head in confusion* - daspacepirate, on 11/01/2007, -3/+30I see what you did there.
- macbookpromat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13http://gug.sunsite.dk/tutorials/ronq2/
There, now you happy? I admit it doesn't give quite the same outcome but it's pretty close and all you need to do is add a fe details here and there. - Kakcoo, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15All those Layer Styles checked made my heart jump, but the outcome looks neat.
- macbookpromat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Uh oh, I think we have an emo on our hands.
- webcrumb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11"how often does glass look like its shooting laser beams at you?"
When it's a glass shark?
*hides* - ikillpeoplexx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Or what he was really trying to say: "OMG U GUYZ R NOOBz!!!"
- PabloMac, on 10/10/2007, -13/+23...which looks very Mac OS X-ish.
- webcrumb, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11No, no, no.
7) ???
8) Profit!!! - CraigJ, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12I dugg without commenting... I'm just commenting to tell you that... I dugg it so I can book mark it at home and try it out...
- fxspec06, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Who the ***** cares !?@ He can use it as a bookmarking service if he wants. I'm tempted to create another account just to bookmark articles I want to come back to in the future.
- Modulo, on 10/10/2007, -4/+13wow, less than two minutes, and it also doesn't look anywhere near as good as the photoshop file. *****.
- BlueCadenza, on 10/10/2007, -4/+133d effects can be much easier done with a 3d program with text-editing like open-source Blender3d.
1) Open Blender 2) open edit and type "q" 3) Under materials check transparency and reflectivity/color 4) Do the same for the "world" background to mimic the green-blue backdrop 5) Move the default light a short distance from the letter 6) F12 to render - xxbrighteyed, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Oi, *****, he can Digg for whatever reason he wants to, clearly if he's bookmarking it to try at home then he liked the article and thinks it's a worthwhile read for other people so shut the ***** up
- praisethelard, on 06/06/2008, -4/+10Where do people get this from? I haven't used Vista, but the screenshots I see don't look anything like the desktop of OS X.
- webcrumb, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Blocked in 3...2...1...
*p00f'd*

Hang on, where the hell has the block button gone? - geometry, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I think it's because you mentioned "Inconvenient Truth"
I didn't digg you down. - webcrumb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I'm too lazy to digg you down...
Wait... - CraigJ, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Hi. I'm at home now trying this out. For the record I did read the article today, but, being at work I didn't have time to try it out. So, you have yourself a nice day now...
- webcrumb, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I'd be more interested to do this in Inkscape. Then you have a nice vector graphic ready for resizing etc.
- tizz66, on 10/10/2007, -3/+77) Profit
- blumph, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5digg the comment down and it'll appear to the left of their name
- karel747, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Your blatant disregard for English grammar makes baby Jesus cry.
- tehpwnrate, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5It doesn't matter if you agree with the subject matter, the point is some of the graphics were easy on the eyes. I figured it was an example of a successful slideshow using glassy stuff that people would have seen. Oh well :)
- MagicCake, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It does look Vista-ish. I guess it's mostly the colors they chose.
- DAaaMan64, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3you could probably convert this exact tutorial to gimp, if you want. I don't think it will take long, I have done it before.
- paulisnotdead, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4what does that even mean?
- wabbiteh, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I desire an icon set with this effect...
- skidooer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Not on your life my digg-using friend.
- Cykaos, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I agree the sparkle is really dumb.
- Toallpointswest, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Okay, how do I do this in Gimp?
- paulisnotdead, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6you're name is digg is worthless, so first off why are you here and second off stop being a douche
- webcrumb, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Hmm... it looks wrong as you've just made it transparent. This is one of the reasons I love finalRender. You need specularity and Fresnel otherwise you have an object which is has the same refractive index as the air, which is not what you're after. The PS version, while stylised glass, approximates the effect more closely.
- DenTPuzz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Funny, I was just looking for a way to do this. Now how do I 'refract' the background layer!
- lawtonchiles, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5why is the Digg community so quick to be negative and mean? There is something wrong with that whole mentality of yelling and people who post stuff of their own here- if you don't like it- tough. write your own then.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Boobs.. do i get dugg up?
- georgiepiebob, on 10/21/2007, -1/+3Guys, that is so Web 2.0. *laughs*...
i speak fluent idiot. - karel747, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3ostracize
You know what else wastes time? Clicking on articles you have no interest in just so that you can comment and say how much crap it is and how you're not interested in it. Not all of us can be home all day reading through digg - some of us have other things to do, so calm the ***** down. - phpchris, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Because he provides the source file with all the layer settings in it?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1A photoshop action wouldve been nice
- raarky, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1i wonder if this will do the rounds and end up in the design history hall of fame. like bevel and lens flare :P
- xxbrighteyed, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3For the people complaining he doesn't give the layer styles, if you actually look there is a sample PSD
- Akaru, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Scary... Around 24 hours ago, I actually read through this very same tutorial when I was surfing at school.
Found it via this link with 79 other text effect tutorials, which might be helpful to other people reading this: http://www.photoshoproadmap.com/Photoshop-blog/2007/07/22/the-best-80-photoshop-text-effects-on-the-web/ - cleber, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2The sparkle things don't look natural 'cause natural sparkles have always a pair number of spikes. On that image, they have 5...
Using a six point star would be better. - Alorana, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You need to calm down. It's not that GIMP is better than Photoshop, which is a matter of opinion. It's that GIMP is free. Think before getting defensive.
- Dash-2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1This pissed me off too.
