Sorry, let me correct myself: GIMP tutorials if you don't have the cash to buy PS, or the morals to steal it. - thekak, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24The Coloring B&W Images is bs. It's obvious he started with a color photo, and his Photoshop rendition of making it colored again is horrible.
- maddox, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20I hate these video tutorials on YouTube that keep popping up.
Such crap quality! - fearofcorners, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Agreed, but I'm still going to digg you down because 'signature' links are spam.
- Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Seriously, stop with the VIDEO tutorials for Photoshop. A Photoshop tutorial needs to be a step-by-step guide with pictures and text. Not video. Ever.
For one thing, you can't see anything with YouTube's *****-tastic video quality. You're supposed to be able to SEE what filters and menu selections they're picking.
Another thing, none of these tutorial authors ever pick good music. Don't use any music. Yes, you. Yes, even your taste in music sucks. Yes... ESPECIALLY your's. Quit asking. - DPowers08, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10This is basically a summary of the last few Photoshop tutorials on Digg.
- E55P3A, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Fair enough. :)
- Antitheft, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Errik,
What do you mean by "too easy to use"? Everybody has to start somewhere. If you are not a designer, or haven't had the opportunity to study design at school , then these tutorials are a good way for rookies to learn how to utilize Photoshop on a basic level to get the visual results they are looking for. Then again, you are probably too much of an elitist to even consider what I am trying to say. - jodokast, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9The rounded corners one makes it way harder than it really is...
There's a "Rounded Rectangle Tool" for a reason. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Whoah dude, now I can chop my head unto Britney spears body
- sphinx13, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9The colorizing tutorial is so fake. Compare the end result to the picture in the beginning. Whoever posted this should have watched them before posting.
- steven401, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6That colourise B&W pictures is a joke, the man looks like a oompa loompa at the end.
Look at what he shown you at the beginning of the colour image then skip to the end - the first image at the start is a lot better because he made the colour image black and white as an example.
THIS IS A SCAM! :O - tdiddy54, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Man those are terrible tutorials. They look like crap and they have nothing new to show.
- craz3d, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6When will people stop digging Techeblog? I have yet to see anything original come from them, all they do is post other people's work or blogspam other news...
Maybe I'm wrong; if so, enlighten me...or digg me down. - Ades, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5top 5 ? pretty lame tutorials ..
- bergur1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5some of them were nice but I stopped right when I noticed the coloring black and white images video since that is the worst job ever.
- jonathono2000, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6stop it, seriously just stop posting photoshop tutorials on digg, this is getting ridiculous, and to top it off they all suck, and i dont mean kinda lame i mean i wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire sucky, so just stop for the love of all that holy stop.
- Tonydev, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"i agree, come on people, photoshop is too easy to use."
So you've found the filter menu. Congratulations.
Anyone who truly knows what is capable through PS appreciates it's complexity. People who advocate its ease of use are generally the worst choppers of all. - Harmless, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7This includes a tutorial on how to make Sin City" like images. Here are some that others have made:

vincity: http://tvinje.evanlemoine.com/funstuff/vincity1.jpg - thesixthdesign, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Is it just me, or are these Photoshop Tutorials just not cool?
1. Smooth rounded corners you could easily achieve by using the 'smooth' tool on the corners which is what I always use.
2. Everyone knows how to blend.
3. Many people know how to colorize. - Crosshare, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Glad I wasn't the only one who caught that. Go to the end of the video with the finished product, then skip right back to the beginning to see the "supposed finished product". So fake, and not even close.
- heffae, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Actually if you are familiar with Gimp you can usually translate most intermediate level PS tutorials to Gimp.
- heaintheavy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3A tutorial more people need to watch is how to color-correct photos for your home printer. I see many photos that, when printed, look like crap.
- marcuschi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I got an idea. Why not take a bunch of tutorials that were submitted in the past and combine into one article and resubmit it? Yeah, that way I'll make it on the front page. Yeahh....
- TheKingInYellow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4and again with the damned "sin city" tutorial. these 5 "tutorials" are stupid and lame. what do you guys want to learn how to do in photoshop? i will make a tutorial for it. how about that?
- Verm1n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You are not wrong.
- TheKingInYellow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2abso-frickin-lootly! photoshop allows the user to use shapes and vector elements for a reason. the only reason i ever use the rounded corner levels trick is to choke my masks.
- webplus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3man those were the LEAST Top 5 tutorials. This one was not dugg. Give me a break those were weak ass tuts
- Sponky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3TechBlog is my least favourite technical web log.
- xunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2How this utter ***** could have been digged 1840 times ? Those PS tutorials are bad, low skilled (the one about round corners is so 1995), and in a crappy video format. Lame.
- CaptainKrontos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, these suck pretty hard. Liquid metal? Seriously?
- pepote, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Agreed... I've seen far better ones.
- SuburbanDave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Overheard at a bar - 'Was she really that ugly? Dude.. she was can't-fix-it-with-photoshop ugly.'
Kinda glad I didn't hear what led to that. *shudder* - RevAradia, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1VERY interesting article. I had no idea that Photoshop was that extensive and I used it for a long while at work.
- Volatile, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The chrome metal tutorial brought back horrendous memories of my early days of using photoshop. Guys, filters are very, very, very rarely any good. Gaussian Blur is about the only filter I ever use, along with Unsharp Mask for photography.
Edit: And this was supposed to be a new reply, not a reply to Errik's comment. But while I'm replying, how can a piece of software be "easy?" And why is that necessarily a bad thing? - eliburford, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That coloring tutorial is pretty nasty..
- steveoco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Agreed, I either use the pen tool and a grid or just use the grid and selection tool. It's a perfect result in a fifth of the time, plus editable etc
I don't think a pro picked these tuts. - Shak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Top 5 photoshop tutorials? Are you joking me? Those video tutorials are hardly worth that honor. Most of them are just quick, 2-3 step ways to do a cool little effect.
- ngonzales80, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, some of these tutorials were not that great. What do you expect when you can only upload short videos? These tutorials are for newbies not for people that have been using PS for years. For newbies, these can be great because they expose them to tools they might not use otherwise. For those that say there are better tutorials out there, that's true. But not everyone wants to fork over money when they can find stuff like this for free.
I personally like the "Fade Images Together" and "Sin City-style Images" tutorials. The "Colorize B&W Images" video was COMPLETE crap! - 64nDh1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The end result of the colourisation tutorial looked like ass - however, that is an effective method for colourisation: blocking in colour, and setting blending modes. It's just dumbed down too much, but Metacafe video isn't the right medium for elaboration on what you're doing and why. Don't judge the author too harshly on his shoddy results.
- LittleDanzig, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Could somebody please post a tutorial about how to be creative? I keep following these things step-by-step but my work just always ends up looking like everybody else's.
- 64nDh1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1To be pedantic, in that tutorial the guy is not making a vector based rectangle - it's an alpha channel selection. But the guy still didn't do it the easiest way (use marquee selection tool to make selection, Select->Smooth, choose radius of curve on corners).
- thegenome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Most of these are pretty rubbish... i did like the sincity one though... but the problem is that like with any tutorial you have to know the program pretty well before doing any of these.
well.. heres my attempt anyway... http://thegenome.deviantart.com/ - appleswitch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1revision3.com/pixelperfect
Every episode is amazing, avalible in HD, and much more usefull than any of these. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1millions, your site sucks. You are not any better than the grunge sig kids. Just because you use Arial font doesn't make you better.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I just did the color tutorial and I'm pretty happy with the results, the tutorial isn't perfect, but if you play around with the colors and the paths you can get the picture colored exactly the way you want it
- psdeluxer, on 05/09/2009, -0/+0Sorry, but nothing specially. Good that that is video tutorial, but too easy. I like this tutorial more: http://digg.com/design/Drawing_realistic_color_por ... It isnt video tutorial, but that is very usefull ;)
- MillionsLivio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I disagree, these tutorials aren't great for "newbies", there are many other ways of teaching the other tools of photoshop. Much better ones, new photoshop users need to learn how use the tools properly. I try to teach them how to properly use all of the essiental tools in my tutorials. However the thing most newcomers don't understand, is practice and just playing with all the tools and features of photoshop (except filters) is the best way to learn. I self taught myself almost everything I learned, pretty quick at that many years ago and continue to learn through use and now through discussing the trade with other artist. If you'd like to see my tutorials, go to http://TheBluePanda.com
- liquidarts, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I agree the colour tutorial is fake, but try this software;
http://www.recolored.com/
You can colour a b&w picture with just a few simple strokes and it does an amazing job! -
