Ahhhhhhh!!! I have missed this great blog designs!! It has been dugg to death! What perils await me?! - Lowry, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14"We has choses the top 20."

- Neticule, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11Yup, as dead as the 17 homeless immigrants in my closet =(
- Neticule, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5"not enough content in an easy to use way"
Get with the times man! Ease of use went out the window years ago! - munderwood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4All your design are belong to us..
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9awesome, the exact same ones from all the other "top x blog design" articles.
- kntg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Good source of inspiration, sweet.
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Only 17? Tsk tsk tsk, you're falling behind.
- phej, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2CSSBloom: "Here's the blogs we think you should like and worship We're not going to tell you why because you should just know, poser."
Me: "Nah, I don't really care" - xerus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Is it already dead...?
- coxis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ok it is back online now. SORRY !
- Jakelshark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Some of the designs are really cool, but I just dont like trying to use the site. It looks pretty but works like crap.
And for a summed up feeling, Maddox said it best it this article http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=banish
too much *****, not enough content in an easy to use way - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3How is Maddox's website NOT a blog?
- coxis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sorry, fixed, it was late :/
- redlaser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2just my humble opinion, orange on grey sucks especially when the orange is text(the tabs at the top)
and a suggestion, consider changing the title color to orange(but increase the font if u do that).. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1right now how do I steal these designs without anyone knowing?
- hesiod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My favorite part is where you openly give approval to yourself to use a design you made yourself.
- Jakelshark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I really like it, its simple and clean
Im a sucker for a minimilist approach - whalesalad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm surprised I made it onto this list... =D
- codepoet80, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ooh, ooh! evaluate me too!
http://www.jonandnic.com
I like simple and easy to navigate, but I'm open to suggestions! - quamb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hey, its simple, nice.
though don't like the kerning of the type though - too loose, especially for a serif font. digg aint the best place to ask these kinda questions though - you'll be dug down. cheers. - pinsomniac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Heh. Didn't mean to "pimp my site," so to speak; the link didn't even go to a working page. Rather, it was an attempt to contrast the site posted with an example that utilizes a lot of color. Guess I deserved being dugg down, but my points still stands. Hopefully jvimal will see the comments and adjust accordingly.
If someone wanted to spam, it'd be submitted as a Digg and be throttled to the front page. My apologies. - Jakelshark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I kinda like it, I dont care for the AJAX effect and the font could be scaled down a bit as well as add a splash of color. But other than that, it isnt too bad
- grrreat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thanks for the tips Jason, redlaser, jakel and praveen
jasonmanheim - I have emailed Darren about the rip off. My blog design is definitely a work in progress and I had to start somewhere ( used Darren's as an inspiration point ).
praveenmarkandu - I'm not trying to make it a marketing tool - do want to focus on content. are you trying to say that I should remove ads?
Jakelshark - I'm just learning to make it less busy. I guess I have too many links? or is cause i dont have enough spacing?
redlaser - thank you for your advice. Will implement that tonite. - praveenmarkandu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what about my blog?
http://cookiecrumbs.dyndns.org/blog/
okay. okay. im sure gonna get negative diggs for this (possibly many). im proud cause its new and hosted off my own webserver. if you would be so kind as to leave comments or whatever :) - pinsomniac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You don't. Not unless you have approval to do so. I've flat-out rejected design jobs that have asked me to emulate another page down to the finest detail.
Among the list, I do know that Shaun Inman doesn't mind if you peek around his code. He won't help you out if you have any issues deploying it, but it's nice of him to essentially give others the license to use his work. (Good luck "stealing" his design as well; it's more complex than it appears.) - mb309, on 12/31/2008, -0/+1I would have loved to see who was in that discussion, most of the blogs in there are by the designers who recently met up at the @media 2006 conference in London. It was interesting seeing their design perspectives when they presented. Maybe they helped influence the results?!
Speakers can be found here.
http://www.vivabit.com/atmedia2006/speakers/ - Bioshocker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1More poor quality "Top 10 ____" articles trolling Digg for traffic.
The author was too lazy to even post comments on what he liked about the designs. - coxis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1SORRY PEOPLE FOR THIS. THE PAGES ARE WORKING AGAIN:
http://silentbits.com/?p=339
CSSBloom also works again: http://cssbloom.com/ - coxis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well i don't know why, i redesign the look and it works good in my opinion.
What you don't like, be more specific. - codepoet80, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey thanks for the constructive feedback!
I agree, YouTube quality sucks. Aside from Sorenson Squeeze though, I haven't been able to find anything else to turn my FinalCut videos into Flash with. Anyone know anything else that can do this (for free)? - praveenmarkandu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i like it. its also simple. i like your post even better. might check in a few times in the future. your "The Examined Life" post was nice. i should do one like that :)
what i dont like is Youtube. i just cant stand low res videos. i would rather host something of higher quality off my own server - Jakelshark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like it, my only suggestion is to move the nav bar down and set your header img to span
but other than that, it is really good and easy on the eyes and your comment system is cool - Jakelshark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I dont like it...
Its not like I dislike it for a reason, I just dont like it and dont know why. Id say scrap the design or rework it. Black and yellow can be a tricky color combo is my only opinion - praveenmarkandu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1your blog is more of an advertising tool than anything else. whatever floats your boat mate. :P
- redlaser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1its neat and simple, great
but how about doing away with that network connections icon.
Id suggest you do it asap, before it spoils more first impressions. - Jakelshark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well its just alot of stuff on the page that I just find distracting.
First off, new color scheme: get rid of that orange color on links or find a way to darken it up some for ease of reading (maybe bold it?). Next you dont need to get rid of the google ads, but incorporate them into the site better. The way the ads are put in (looks like into the blog entry) I get distracted away from the content. You did put the one longer ad into the nav bar, good for you! Thats a start. I would suggest getting a horizontal row and put it on the very tip top (make it clearly seperate from the main body wrapper). You get more ads that way and take them out of the entries. Lastly I like the color scheme of your header menu, you should try to get more of that scheme into the site. Maybe change your nav bar color and fix up that search field. Also change that orange on dark gray to white on dark gray
Fix those things (ad placement and color choices), and I can see a sexy design there. - jasonmanheim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cool grrreat. Darren's site is definately a great starting point. Good Luck.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, such nice designs. thanx for sharing
- coxis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yee :) The list is top quality i think :)
- pinsomniac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm not sure there are many free FLV encoders out there... in fact, outside of the one bundled with Flash 8 Professional and Flix Pro, I'm not sure what alternatives there are to Squeeze at all. Flash is more accessible (with something to the tune of 97% market penetration?), but I think the best compromise would be going with QuickTime.
Interestingly enough, Adobe talks about exporting from Final Cut to FLV here: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/flv_exporter_03.html
Design: Nice, clean, simple. Nothing wrong with that; it puts you above a good majority of the other blogs out there. Seems like it's slightly lacking in design (can't pinpoint it at the moment,) but the content (which is most important) seems to be there. Try to adjust your comments to allow collapsing as well (not just expanding). - coxis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey what to comment, see the design by yourself. We was talking long time to choose the best 20. We can make a comments to each page but our english is not so well to make a good one. Sorry.
- EmberX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Wow, so, that list is exactly the same as the "Top 10" best blog designs, only with 10 more added....sweet! Reported!
- dfunct, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1http://www.geekmeetsgirl.net/ - well if everyone else is doing it ...
and if everyone jumped off a cliff would you? well I would if I had a parachute ... - jasonmanheim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hey grrreat, does Darren know you ripped off his design?
- Jakelshark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I was talking about the sites you listed, they look nice but dont function well
looking good !=good design - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2i keep wishing for the day that filtering *.blog actually does something.
- gopal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree to Jakelshark. Pretty looking web sites aren't always better in terms of usability.
If you consider the usability of the blog, the mullet layout (and the long tail archive) by Jonathan Boutelle [http://www.jonathanboutelle.com/mt/archives/2005/08/mulletstyle_blo.html] is the best one. I'm using it in my weblog [http://gopalarathnam.com/weblog/]. I've also implemented it as a WordPress Theme, which can be download from my software collection page [http://gopalarathnam.com/software/]. - Jakelshark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0its too busy for my likes
