- roomforpanic, on 10/12/2007, -9/+88Yeah, but the real question is, what exactly is China compensating for?
- l33tn00b, on 10/12/2007, -5/+53Since it scraped the sky
- floridiot2, on 10/12/2007, -4/+46That's the new Freedom tower, IDIOT.
- vulcanius, on 10/12/2007, -3/+36Great, now it's not just planes we have to worry about, it's space shuttles too.
- arunforce, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27Japan is sending Godzilla, it doesn't matter.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -76/+100This is literally the dumbest list I've ever seen out of the 100000 stupid top 10 list that got on to Digg front page. First of all, the Eiffel tower is not a ***** skyscraper. Secondly, and this really pissed me off, 6 of the ***** so call top tower isn't even completed yet. Third, WTF is the Dubai Hotel in there? who the ***** putting this stupid list together? some ***** from Dubai? Last time i remember there is this building call the EMPIRE STATE BUILDING? it's kinda taller and 10 times more famous than some stupid hotel in Dubai.
- Doorfingers, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26since 1887, duh
- scottylist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24Burj Dubai: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burj_Dubai
- NuttySquirrel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22@Cleanlyness
Um, the WTC Towers came down, not the Empire State Building. Idiot.
And yes, that is the new WTC building (or the plan, anyway). - purple, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21Does it really matter? This list is *****, why would it have skyscrapers that aren't even built yet on the list?
I'm making a 14 kilometre high skyscraper in my back-yard. It should be done by 2021. Can me, and my skyscraper be on this list?
Putting the CN Tower on this list would disgrace the CN Tower. - usefuljenkins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Worlds tallest skyscraper........Maximum occupancy of top floor, 1.
- Kardde, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18@Cleanlyness
God you're dumb.
The Empire State Building is not the World Trade Center, and visa versa. The World Trade Center was destroyed on 9/11. The Empire State Building still exists, and has a very long and famous history.
Since you're clearly so incomprehensibly stupid, you'd probably know it best as the building King Kong climbed up. - samsonpwnz, on 10/12/2007, -16/+31Since when is the Eiffel Tower a skyscraper?
- spikes, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19What? No CN Tower but the Eiffel Tower is listed? Pfft..
- OverThere, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Don't forget about the 20 min elevator commute to get to your office.
And I don't even want to think about the stairs. - omatsei, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Think of the positive aspects of a building that tall. If you ever fell from the top floor, you'd have enough time to read a magazine or two before hitting the ground.
- GawtMilk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Heh, it is funny because most of these aren't even official mock-ups, or buildings that people plan to build. What a ridiculously bad article.
There used to be an Emporis site called "www.skyscrapers.com" which had official mock-ups, current tallest, etc...but that's down now.
However, I did do a report on Hong Kong's skyscrapers for Mandarin class...I've still got the world wide data left over
1. Taipei 101, Taipei, Taiwan
2. Petronas Tower 1, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
3. Petronas Tower 2, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
4. Sears Tower, Chicago
5. Jin Mao Building, Shanghai
6. Two International Finance Centre, Hong Kong
7. CITIC Plaza, Guangzhou, China
8. Shun Hing Square, Shenzhen, China
9. Empire State Building, New York
10. Central Plaza, Hong Kong
11. Bank of China, Hong Kong
12. Emirates Tower One, Dubai
13. Tuntex Sky Tower, Kaohsiung, Taiwan
14. Aon Centre, Chicago
15. The Center, Hong Kong
16. John Hancock Center, Chicago
17. Shimao International Plaza, Shanghai
18. Minsheng Bank Building, Wuhan, China
19. Ryugyong Hotel, Pyongyang, N. Korea
20. Q1, Gold Coast, Australia - AstralAutomaton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12That's actually a wide shot of the future Burj Dubai, it doesn't do justice to the magnificent design of the structure. Check it out at www.burjdubai.com, I personally believe it to be the most beautiful skyscraper I've ever seen.
The pic in this article is quite a lousy one, notice how skinny all the other buildings look too. - zoltrix, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15Where is the Belleville Water Tower?
http://www.city.belleville.on.ca/files/images/watertower.jpg - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11That one in Dubai, not the hotel, will be one awesome thing to see. I would actually give anything just to be one of the guys that build it, i love heights. 705 Metres high they say.
- PATSCRU, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11cheating with antennas is such pussy *****....i'm looking at YOU freedom tower!!!!!
- JerodSlay, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10www.skyscraperpage.com
best website for anything buildings. Extremely comprehensive. Check it out. - atk124, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10The last tower is going to be 1228 meters tall (4029 feet or 3/4 of a mile)?
Additionally, check out the design:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bionic_tower
Wonder what Freud would say about this. - mikeb6944, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Imagine if you lived near the 300th floor of the Bionic tower, now that is a hell of an elevator ride. I see a kid getting in and pushing allllll the buttons...*****.
- Jawsh91, on 10/12/2007, -8/+16I totally agree, plus where the hell is the CN Tower, the tallest free-standing building in the world? This list sucks!
- DjOverEZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7It would be nice if they put the names of the buildings in the captions.
- actionmike, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13It looks like China wins!!!! wheeeeeeee
@emanji, here's a free English lesson (from China): A skyscraper is just a tall structure so the Eiffel Tower can be considered one. AND, your grammar sucks! Now go take your ignorant, misplaced ranting and raving elsewhere. The next lesson will come at a steep price... - Doorfingers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Congratulations on realizing that not putting "Amazing" in all caps significantly increased your chances of getting on the front page.
- habitue, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8WTF, are you guys daft? The Eiffel tower isn't even on there...
- Storm9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Too bad its just a dream...
- floridiot2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I will not ride an elevator above 20 floors. I got stuck in one on the 6th floor and it just hung there for like 30 minutes. Scared the ***** out of me. Call me a pussy, but all I could think of was that the car would fall at any time. Wait, actually don't call me a pussy.
- MforMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Wow that one in Shanghai China is going to be 1228 meters, thats 4 028.87139 ft, which is over 3 quarters of a mile. Wow.
- kingfelix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6the development name is "tower of babel 2"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Location : Shanghai China
Height : 1228 Meters
Floors : 300
To Be Completed : 2020
Now that is just insane. I would crap my pants if I was a construction worker putting up a frame on the 280th floor lol - DigeratiPrime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Nevertheless a B-25 bomber did fly into the Empire State Building a while ago
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empire_State_Building#History - AhmedOmran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5If you checked the bulding's details (600 metres high, to be completed in 2007, located in Tokyo), you'd realize that it's probably not the Eiffel Tower to start with.
- Mudger, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7"Whoa what is that? It looks like a huge, big, giant...."
"Cucumber. Where did you put them?"
"bottom shelf behind the celery." - PuppadogServant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Shanghai - 492 meters - 2007 (completed in 2008)
Tokyo - 600 meters - 2007 (completed be 2010)
Dubai - 705 meters - 2008
Wow, that's quit engineering jump for one year. Dubai is an amazing place. - asif5th, on 10/12/2007, -12/+17Whoa...China :|, with that many people, its easy to build that thing :|
- chicbicyclist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7If you can see it through the smog. I hope China can fix their air quality problems by then. Today, it's just...horrible.
- Anomaly427, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5To those of you still dealing with 50s elevator technology, the Taipei 101 (tallest *completed* building in the list) elevator takes 30 seconds to reach the observation deck. It's the worlds fastest elevator, built by Toshiba. I went up it last year. Amazing - no shudder, vibration of even noticible accelleration/braking. Perfect.
- calvinator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The hotel might be in there just for the tennis: http://www.burj-al-arab.com/tennis/
- TheGuruStud, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5you mean where is the catsup bottle tower :)
http://www.waterhistory.org/art_detail.php?&ID=3 - iQuinn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Seriously, that list is horrible. See:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tallest_buildings_and_structures_in_the_world#Tallest_structures
Which lists the CN Tower as the tallest tower, although it might not count as a skyscraper (but many in that list are not skyscrapers either). Dugg down as lame. Please, check accuracy before digging. - nowayhoseb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The 1221 meter building - I would love to see the commute from your hotel on the 298th floor to your office on the 10th...and you though new jersey was bad
- GawtMilk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@DigeratiPrime
Before we get conspiracy theroies flying around everywhere, I'd like to point out:
1) The B25 was TINY compared to other bombers, much smaller and slower then other planes
2) The B25 was going slower then usual, it was lost in fog looking for an airstrip
3) The B25's engine still went all the way through the building
4) The damage was far from devastating. Here's a photo - http://66.230.220.70/images/post/nycbw/177.jpg - antitab, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Cool, but does it launch into space after you build enough of them?
- lykathea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Too bad it looks like a giant turd. I personally like the look of the Burj Dubai much more...
- RadicalRon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Don't need a Freudian psychologist.
A moonbat lawyer by the name of Gloria Allred claims that the Washington Monument (and buildings like it) are phallic symbols and are therefore sexist.
She's the pride and joy of NOW and definitely has the correct last name. - topace3000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Lol, the giant chinese tower to be completed in "2020"... how can that make list when its planning obviously isn't complete..
