- gnawph2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Art is subjective. Should be titled "MY top 10 Beautiful Blog Designs".
- OneManArmy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Those are quite nice designs but I wouldn't call them the _best_. Here is a better list http://silentbits.com/2006/06/22/top-20-weblog-designs/ that was already on digg a year or so ago.
- tomoso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I have never seen any of those blogs, except for Phill Ryu's, and to be honest I don't think it's that beautiful.
- twatwaffle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Ive seen all those templates before.
Now explain why they are so special again? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"A poorly designed blog with amazing content will not receive as many readers as a beautifully designed blog with equal content."
Thank you Mr. Wizard! - RockinRoel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2De gustibus et coloribus non disputandum est.
- Hickeroar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've got to say, this is all very relative. I only find two or three of those designs even remotely appealing. I've also seen far more "beautiful" blogs than these.

Are any of these actually worth reading? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Mr. Obvious to the rescue!"
Also, I though it was too bad that Veerleās blog wasn't mentioned. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2says who? credential up.
- geekitechture, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2edit: reply to rawbeartoe
Rotating content is a nice hook. Yeah, so is updating a blog with a new post (it's about the same difference, right?). I went and had a look at this top ten but what's the big deal? I'm sick of looking at blogs that are supposedly "the best" in terms of design, use of colors, etc. Often the layouts and even the colors are distracting, most of the designs waste space, few of the designs highlight navigation and increase readability, so what's the point?
Design is to blogs what body weight is to people; another superficial aspect to spend time and money on "perfecting," but when all is said and done, if the "content" (what is inside) isn't good, who will care?
Web 2.0, blah blah blah, AJAX, blah blah blah, Flash, blah blah blah, CSS blah blah blah blah blah *blah*. Give me the crappiest looking site or blog with plenty of good content and a talented author and I will come back again and again. - ryodoan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I aggree.
I was expecting some kind of original design, but all the layouts are identical almost, and the ones that are not the standard 2 column blog are also very popular layouts.
So while yes, unlike a lot of blogs they use more colors than blue and white, I did not see anything really special in these blogs. - illahtech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I echo the sentiments of some others in that I'd like to see blog designs that don't look like they're minor edits of stock Wordpress themes... These are basically just a graphic up top, lots of empty space, and small fonts (i.e. Graphic Design 101).
Clean layout? Yes...but nothing new, nothing that blows me away. - jaxshores, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Some of these blogs have a good reputation but arn't particularly "beautifully designed". For example, Shaun Inman (of shauninman.com) made his claim to fame with his Mint website statistic services, but his new blog design is plain compared to some unknown blog designs I've seen. Personally, I'd have preferred to see a list of blogs from people I've never heard from before with beautiful and creative designs. Good effort, but nothing very new or exciting here.
- Zoshchenko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1All things being equal, yes I'd rather read a blog that is on a nicely designed site. But unlike a shopping site or corporate site, the content is key. So by all means, if you're creating a "blob" to sell something, make it pretty. But if you have something important to say, don't worry what it looks like. Make it mean something.
- rderveloy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Personally, I found shauninman.com (the green one) one annoying. The background color doesn't contrast well with text and making the white text blend in with the light-green background doesn't make things better. The result, at least for me, is eyestrain and headache. Two things that will make me never voluntarily visit a site again.
The author is right, but good design does not interfere with readability, accessibility, and site navigation. - WolfwoodX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, they really such to be honest... Subjective.
- flap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1as if Veerle's Blog isn't mentioned.
http://veerle.duoh.com - theadvinci, on 05/27/2008, -0/+1The title should be "5 beautiful blog designs".
- Nocturnal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's why I don't even let websites display their fonts. I override it with settings within IE7 and a stylesheet lol. Verdana size 9 FTW.
- Falldog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Only about half of those (at most) I like.
Since we're all talking about themes we like the most, here's the one that I use, based off of digg, http://themes.wordpress.net/columns/3-columns/1450/digg-3-columns-10/ (note: link goes to the theme page, not my blog) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2no Engadget? no digg.
BTW, to the guy credit, he did stated that those are from his own opinion. - rowlodge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1practical but i wish there were more 3d backgrounds out there.
- tearinox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2these look like average blogs to me...
- phytonix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.duggmirror.com
- JD52, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2hrm..... these are just reworked standard templates. Sure they look ok but.... the best??!!
- bdurkin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Some really nice ones on that link. I like them better than the ones on this list. I digg for the good comments posted.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1These are great, but I wonder how big the sample was?
I particularly like this one for it's simplicity and elegance.
http://www.clearthinkers.org - picto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Uh oh...a top 10 list? Better start gearing up for a barrage of diggs.
- Shmock, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1To make myself not sound like a moron, here's the follow up I left out of the original.
I prefer simple blogs that use a common theme. If all blogs looked the same apart from a unique colour scheme and banner it would be easy to navigate and simple to use. Flash headers and artistic css is nice but just watch you don't complicate my life even further. - battleroyalex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1eh not that great, I'd post mine but I don't know if hostmonster.com servers can withstand a crowd of diggers.
- picto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Christ....looking at that site reminds me of how much I loathe header images > 100px in height. Unfortunately my laptop's screen resolution is maxed at 1024x768. Nonetheless I sit uneasy seeing a page load up and a header takes up nearly half of the viewable window.
- ngmcs8203, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Note to future "Top 10 most beautiful design..." blog spammers. If you are going to make a list of your favorite Web designs, fine. I thank you for giving me more ideas to look at. But one thing, make sure one of your picks looks good on all machines.
http://www.macintalk.com/ - take this one for instance. Great design and layout, but I think credit needs to be taken away when the font renders as crappy as it does on my box. Lucida Grande?? It looks more like Grande Poop. - bdurkin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Unfortunately people don't read things unless they look pretty.
- doodlebumm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Is there really any such thing as a beautiful blog? I think it is just varying degrees of acceptability.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Who'd have thought that a digg submitter would actually incorrectly use the instead of teh.
The Internet -> Teh Interweb - 3DProf4online, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What do you think about the models placed at our web site? Could they be useful for online store design?
3DProf4online from www.touchbubble.com - rawbeartoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's all about color, from the looks of it. If your eye "likes it", you won't mind clicking through stuff.
Also, original artwork, which is very distinguishable to the somewhat trained eye. At least I can tell.
Rotating content is a nice hook, so you're not looking at the same 'ol, same 'ol all the time. I like the political cartoons rotating in the header at http://www.crapitolhill.com, even though it's just modded wordpress. And no, this isn't my site. Too righty. - neosix007, on 03/03/2009, -0/+0Everything is a matter of taste. But, these designs aren't something special.
- muffybg, on 12/07/2008, -0/+0it all depends what the blog is for though, if it is a true blog then i agree but if it is just for generating revenue i do not think design matters one iota.
http://adsense.freeoffertrades.co.uk - made2own, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Those are nice, but I like the layout of http://www.ytcracker.com
- Shmock, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Clearly none of you have seen http://gearfire.net
- johnburk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Some great designs. I also like this one http://www.modeblog.nl
What do you think of that one? - WhatiFind, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Well nice designs.. But not downloadable..:( I just found this website wpdesigner.com with wordpress templates to download.. maby not as nice as in your list but I'd say mentionable. Check this digg template.. wpdesigner.com/2007/01/22/digg-3-columns-wordpress-theme/
- scottylist, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Or, if you want an example of an ugly blog design, check out http://oneuglydomain.blogspot.com
...although it's probably on purpose. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3in soviet russia, blog designs you!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1I like this design - the background complements the sexy ladies
