The World’s Most Famous Photoshop Fakes
blogs.photopreneur.com — While that might be a creative opportunity for artistic photographers and designers, for news editors, it can all be a bit of a nightmare — and for readers too when the photos skip the newspapers and land straight in your mailbox. Here are seven of the most famous photoshop fakes.
- 2767 diggs
- digg it
- pogle, on 12/13/2007, -0/+106The Oprah picture is one of the worst fakes I have ever seen. I know it was early in the days of photoshop...but please.
- H0tKarl, on 12/13/2007, -10/+5I'm pretty sure Oprah is the devil's ugly sister.
- 5urr3al5am, on 12/13/2007, -0/+11her head is bigger than a basketball ... in that picture
- MikeonTV, on 12/13/2007, -3/+136Someone looked at that picture of Lebanon and said "There isn't enough burning"!
- 5urr3al5am, on 12/13/2007, -2/+12they thought they were going to tell a 'more accurate' story... how can we trust reports when crap like this is going on?
- iching, on 12/13/2007, -20/+134This one by the GOP
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2004/10/27/22442/878- skyteria, on 12/13/2007, -2/+10My God! The GOP has started the cloning program.
- GreatSunJester, on 12/13/2007, -2/+2No side is immune to faking photos. Each has ideologs who prefer to influence opinion.
- sajnikanth, on 12/13/2007, -18/+9Obligatory "shopped" & "reflections are all wrong" comments
- BackEnThaWomb, on 12/13/2007, -1/+3thank you
- Mikejoneswho5, on 12/13/2007, -19/+1having seen many, can tell by pixles...ect
- JimmySpaza, on 12/13/2007, -5/+40And these are just the ones that got noticed and brought to everyone's attention. Imagine all the fakes in the world of politics and in the media. And then there are the ones that are staged, rehearsed, and choreographed.

http://www.zombietime.com/reuters_photo_fraud/ - Goodbyeworld, on 12/13/2007, -4/+79"enhance the image"
"Ah Ha! We now know the face of the killer!"- thephosphorbox, on 12/13/2007, -1/+25I got punched by my wife once for bursting out in laughter as we sat in a movie theater and that exact same scenario was playing out on the screen LOL
The image was this blurry mess that looked like a vague outline of someone's face.. all of a sudden they "enhanced" it and it was this crystal clear black and white photo complete with film grain... ah hollywood! - donnydarko, on 12/13/2007, -0/+8CSI?
- SteelFrog, on 12/13/2007, -0/+18Now rotate.
Enhance.
Enhance.
What is he holding there?
Zoom in on that.
What's that writing? Zoom in more.
It's a phone number!
- thephosphorbox, on 12/13/2007, -1/+25I got punched by my wife once for bursting out in laughter as we sat in a movie theater and that exact same scenario was playing out on the screen LOL
- mastersquirrel3, on 12/13/2007, -15/+12The last one wasn't shoped. The photographer just added more contrast. This is very common in photography. In my photography class we not only did this but we burned (add more light in one spot) and dodged (remove light in one spot). Oh and don't bring up that it's bias. All photographs are bias because the photographer choose what to take a picture of (framing).
- smithjls, on 12/13/2007, -1/+22Of course it wasn't 'shopped it was taken in 1945 - did you even read the caption??
- shaelen, on 12/13/2007, -1/+10Well, more than just the contrast was manipulated, the text says:
"He also heightened the smoke and removed the two watches from the wrists of the soldier on the lower left. Good Soviet soldiers don’t loot." - death2newbs, on 12/13/2007, -7/+2Wow, it's like you're the "I think it's shopped because I know a lot about... " guy from bizarro world.
- thinkthistime, on 12/13/2007, -1/+4yea, i understand what you're saying. But the smoke is a huge difference. And i'm not quite sure what they're talking about when they say the watches are removed? ..and how do they do this stuff to photos in 1945?
- shaelen, on 12/13/2007, -1/+7About the watches.. here's a better picture of the original:
http://www.famouspictures.org/mag/images/f/f9/Reic ...
Look at the soldier at the bottom climbing up.. close to the feet of the soldier with the flag. You can see he has a watch on both wrists.- Habemus, on 12/13/2007, -1/+4That's still not the original. That's a small crop from the original. The original shows two commisars standing there as well.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thum ...- shaelen, on 12/13/2007, -6/+4Nitpicker! =) Well, your link is too small to see anything, really. And your "original" is only a cropped version of the whole world, and the whole world's version is only a cropped version of the universe. And the universe image is only a cropped version of GOD. And the God version is only a cropped version of a spec of sand on the beach of every other god's vacation spot.
- voyvf, on 12/13/2007, -0/+2So, shaelen... does your God get kicked into a nerds face, often?
- Habemus, on 12/13/2007, -1/+4That's still not the original. That's a small crop from the original. The original shows two commisars standing there as well.
- shaelen, on 12/13/2007, -1/+7About the watches.. here's a better picture of the original:
- WoollyMittens, on 12/13/2007, -1/+7Try to RTFA
- sambapati87, on 12/13/2007, -0/+4You got burn and dodge backwards.
- westfork, on 12/15/2007, -0/+1No he didn't... obviously, you've never made shadow casts on photo paper in a real light room...
During exposure, dodge by shadowing a part of the print, burn by shadowing the print and letting light BURN into a section.
Oh gaw, that's sooo 20th century.
- westfork, on 12/15/2007, -0/+1No he didn't... obviously, you've never made shadow casts on photo paper in a real light room...
- oOLiquidNightOo, on 12/13/2007, -2/+110Enhance 224 to 176. Enhance, stop. Move in, stop. Pull out, track right, stop. Center in, pull back. Stop. Track 45 right. Stop. Center and stop. Enhance 34 to 36. Pan right and pull back. Stop. Enhance 34 to 46. Pull back. Wait a minute, go right, stop. Enhance 57 to 19. Track 45 left. Stop. Enhance 15 to 23. Give me a hard copy right there.
- thcobbs, on 12/13/2007, -0/+42In another Harrison Ford movie, they ID'd a woman by her boobs.
- Tippis, on 12/13/2007, -0/+3Patriot Games, iirc – the boobs part isn't *that* wierd, the problem is that they do so using satellite imagery >_<
- RichLatherX23, on 12/13/2007, -0/+11Dugg your comment for actually typing out that scene.
- Vic333, on 12/13/2007, -0/+7I love it that the computer recognized, "Wait a minute" in that scene.
- thcobbs, on 12/13/2007, -0/+42In another Harrison Ford movie, they ID'd a woman by her boobs.
- andrewcsayer, on 12/13/2007, -16/+3Dugg. Who would have thought Photoshop could be used to do that?
- guoyiyuhen, on 12/13/2007, -5/+1good
- Dokument, on 12/13/2007, -5/+19Photoshopped
- darkamster07, on 12/13/2007, -0/+8I can tell because of the pixels, and also from having seen quite a few shoppes in my time
- DarkDx, on 12/13/2007, -1/+3I can tell by the pixels...
...the pixels,
they tell me to kill you.
- GuacamoleSan, on 12/13/2007, -11/+1I didn't think the smoke one was that incredible...
- thinkthistime, on 12/13/2007, -1/+6that's the point.. it's terrible.
- coffee200am, on 12/13/2007, -25/+4This is me....I used PS to enhance the color...

- NOFXY, on 12/13/2007, -0/+12and THIS is me... I used PS to enhance color and then i overlaid brad pitts head and body over my image
- coffee200am, on 12/13/2007, -3/+2Who's Brad Pitt?
- bovester, on 12/13/2007, -3/+6Absolute worst comeback I've ever seen. I can't believe you sat there at your computer, with all the time in the world, and said to yourself, "Wow, I'm really angry that someone called me out. Let me respond by saying I don't even know who Brad Pitt is. That will make them believe I didn't fake the picture for sure!"
You're an idiot.
- bovester, on 12/13/2007, -3/+6Absolute worst comeback I've ever seen. - obxjdt, on 12/13/2007, -8/+2Most of the originals (war photos) seem to tell the story better.....
I've seen this before, but not sure if it's been on digg. - Badger80, on 12/13/2007, -3/+18I am being a pedant but that’s a British soldier not an American soldier in the third altered picture.
- timusca, on 12/13/2007, -1/+8Nice job reading the comments below the article...
- ryan83189, on 12/13/2007, -4/+5The 9/11 was an ok shop, with light levels etc., but he was wearing a coat in the middle of september. the old ones were cool to see.
- glowfood, on 12/13/2007, -2/+80Wheres the shark picture attacking the helicopter? This list blows.
- skyteria, on 12/13/2007, -2/+2That one was done for a contest though.

- Treshnell, on 12/13/2007, -0/+23What about the giant house cat? The helicopter eating shark? Those are probably more famous than half of those...
- imdeanlabouty, on 12/13/2007, -1/+56This list sucks. Needs higher res pictures.
- Camphlobactor, on 12/13/2007, -7/+2Here are the rehosted images all in at least 640x480 resolution: http://tinyurl.com/2jjsss
Please go easy on my server, thanks.

- 10GunSalute, on 12/13/2007, -0/+8Haha, I remember when "The Tourist" first came out. Why people thought that crap was real is beyond me.
- spyd3rweb, on 12/13/2007, -0/+50Any magazine image is a photoshop fake.
- Zippo, on 12/13/2007, -1/+3That's the graphic design industry. Us designers aren't just hired to place photos, throw in the text, and call it a day.. we have to colour correct, brush something here and there, and if we can make a photo look better by adjusting something or removing something, then why not? It's a form of art after all and it's very fulfilling.
I don't, however, agree with the massive alterations to people that some top magazines do.- SteelFrog, on 12/13/2007, -1/+2I don't know how many times I've had to change the sky's color because it was too blue or had too many clouds. Ugh. Sometimes this job frustrates the hell out of me. (graphic/web designer too)

- x00x, on 12/13/2007, -2/+6The fakes do not live up to the level the title sets up.
- morph988, on 12/13/2007, -39/+1Digg, are you deleting comments? Did I say something naughty?
9/11/2001 attack was the most photoshopped event in history. They made people believe that an aluminum plane can enter a steel building with no slowdown and no breaking of parts. Digg that bitches.- p51d007, on 12/13/2007, -5/+22spoken like a true left wing nutjob
- Myonosken, on 12/13/2007, -5/+3Don't call us all nutjobs for what one wacko says, and we won't call you a wacko for what Bush says.
Deal? - FlyingSpaghetti, on 12/13/2007, -0/+3Shhh...don't make any sudden movements. Observing a moonbat in the wild, in it's natural habitat, is a rare experience.
- Myonosken, on 12/13/2007, -5/+3Don't call us all nutjobs for what one wacko says, and we won't call you a wacko for what Bush says.
- active1x0, on 12/13/2007, -1/+9I don't know if it's 'naughty', per se, but pretty ***** stupid is more likely.
- Myonosken, on 12/13/2007, -0/+9Yeah I mean, that eyeball photoshop software they have now. Those people on the ground swore they saw a plane somewhere.
- p51d007, on 12/13/2007, -5/+22spoken like a true left wing nutjob
- Pinkertinkle, on 12/13/2007, -4/+6That Reichstag picture is still fkn awesome tho. Eat it Nazi's!

- xadhominemx, on 12/13/2007, -2/+8They left out one that I thought would be on the list for sure:
http://defiant.corban.edu/gtipton/net-fun/iceberg. ...- thinkthistime, on 12/13/2007, -4/+1what? What are you talking about? why do you think that's photoshopped?

- chuckDontSurf, on 12/13/2007, -1/+11What about the fake tsunami pic: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/3/2995669_39e56a246 ...
- MaLuoDan, on 12/13/2007, -1/+16Talk about missing the most famous one of all, pre-photoshop: http://www.newseum.org/berlinwall/commissar_vanish ...
More Soviet propaganda "photoshopping" here: http://englishrussia.com/?p=710 - quinlan, on 12/13/2007, -0/+5I would have thought that O.J. and the magazine cover would have been there.
- kaiyen, on 12/13/2007, -1/+3Adding the smoke and making the watches disappear in the 1945 photo is still easy to do in basic black and white printing. The smoke was there, it was just enhanced with the contrast. And there are a lot of different ways of getting rid of the watches.
A big part of the other images is that they misrepresent the truth. In this case, it's easy to argue that the added contrast improved the image, artistically. - KingBunny, on 12/13/2007, -4/+6You forgot about the countless thousands - nay, millions - of images of the Earth from space. I mean come on, we know the Earth is flat, so they must all be fake, right? Undeniable logic right there.
/flat earth society craziness - Biojoe, on 12/13/2007, -4/+2"Photoshop Fakes" isn't that redundant?
- Haik, on 12/13/2007, -0/+1No it's not redundant, Photoshop = image editing software, fake = false, not real, counterfeit. Yes?
- falafelkiosken, on 12/13/2007, -0/+7Just to make it clear — the Russians didn't use photoshop
- linzichan, on 12/13/2007, -1/+19Photoshop uses them!
- elsagacious, on 12/13/2007, -1/+2WIN!
- Krpano, on 12/13/2007, -1/+2Dugg, informations like this should be widely spread to open ppl's mind.
- Av3nger, on 12/13/2007, -0/+5I still reckon they're missing the model who's belly button was photoshopped out.
- petedi, on 12/13/2007, -1/+16Playboy girl photoshopped just a little too much... What's missing:
http://sugiero.blogspot.com/2007/06/photo-in-playb ...- jptolife, on 12/13/2007, -0/+4Where'd her bellybutton go?!?!
- badenglishihave, on 12/13/2007, -0/+4Maybe she's Eve.
- Haecceity, on 12/13/2007, -1/+8It's not photoshopping, but the Mission Accomplished video on the White House site was cropped to remove ... yes, you've guessed it ... the "Mission Accomplished" banner.
- mattr12345, on 12/13/2007, -0/+3the "iraqi civilians" one is actually of a british soldier, as he has 95 pattern desert dpm and an SA80 assault rifle
- tbonevig, on 12/13/2007, -1/+0buried for low res pics.
- Interestingness, on 12/13/2007, -4/+1Frankly, I don't give a fark. http://thunkdifferent.com/2007/12/13/the-world%e2% ...

- FritzKatz, on 12/13/2007, -1/+2
Speaking of "fakery"... there's spillover from blogs.photopreneur.com to LGF and DIGG is getting a dig-down:
_________
Our visitor count is pretty high this morning, because of this interesting link: "The World’s Most Famous Photoshop Fakes".
LGF has been deliberately blocked from appearing on Digg’s front page (no matter how many diggs an LGF story gets, it is never “made popular”), but the Photoshop article appeared there—so we’re getting the spillover.
___________
http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/ - smek2, on 12/14/2007, -1/+1The Reichstag Flag isn't fake. And especially no Photoshop fake, you little *****. If you look closely at the original and the "fake" photo, you'll see that their exactly the same, only the supposed fake one has more contrast. The russian army really did march into Berlin after victory and they really raised that flag.
- shaelen, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2They aren't *exactly* the same.
The point was that the contrast was messed with and a watch was removed from one of the wrists of the soldier from the original photo, nobody said it was a fake.
- shaelen, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2They aren't *exactly* the same.
- McMescalero, on 12/14/2007, -0/+2Little Green Footballs rocks!
