- jamauss, on 06/18/2008, -5/+140Imagine how much Comcast sucked back in 1934.
- sluggysan, on 06/17/2008, -31/+141In a related story, when I was 12 I predicted that one day my parents would get divorced, leading me into a downward spiral of depression and alcoholism. Wheeeeee!

- greenlight2001, on 06/18/2008, -2/+43I was going to digg you down, but I fear if you get dugg down to far, you might do something to harm yourself. So, dugg up!
- Pauli92, on 06/18/2008, -3/+39And my grand dad says he can't use a computer I knew he was lying!
- Snakedal337, on 06/18/2008, -4/+38Dupe. The word is Dupe.
- Thrilltone, on 06/18/2008, -1/+33So, it was AOL that caused the Great Depression
- shigness17, on 06/18/2008, -0/+31He was obviously a time traveler.
- BXRWXR, on 06/18/2008, -1/+31The Otletnet?
- inactive, on 06/18/2008, -9/+38this is what McCain thinks the internet is
- Kenzan, on 06/18/2008, -0/+28Contrary to popular belief, in the past, there were smart people.
Some of them even smarter than you or me. - snurfle, on 06/18/2008, -0/+27(but not in 1934)
- 5urr3al5am, on 06/18/2008, -3/+27F-ing Al Gore.. knew he was full of crap!
- monospaced, on 06/18/2008, -1/+25He pretty much got it right, minus the porn.
- Chebsi, on 06/18/2008, -0/+24Ever heard of a filing cabinet?
Files were around before computers. - BoneheadFarker, on 06/18/2008, -6/+29Funny...I buried him hoping he'd do something to harm himself...
- RudeTurnip, on 06/18/2008, -1/+20Great news...now can we please use this to invalidate all the ridiculous internet-based patents?
- erichw1504, on 06/18/2008, -1/+19back when Digg was just Dig.

- erichw1504, on 06/18/2008, -0/+16Internet probably cost a fortune back then!
** $249.99 a month, bundled with telegraph for only $299.98. **
...From Cumcast. - orangefly, on 06/18/2008, -0/+14god i'm old....
- o0joshua0o, on 06/18/2008, -10/+23Al Gore didn't mean he literally invented the Internet. He meant that he is the one who made it possible for ordinary citizens to have network access, by developing the High Performance Computing and Communication Act of 1991 (commonly referred to as "The Gore Bill")
- Tenlow, on 06/18/2008, -0/+13Pronounced Ot-lay-nay
- bitterbug, on 06/18/2008, -0/+12I was waiting for him to harm himself so I could bury him.
- CYR1X, on 06/18/2008, -2/+12It was made in 2007 dude.
- bitterbug, on 06/18/2008, -3/+11Why digg that comment down? It's accurate. Gore hasn't claimed he invented the net. That's a myth. He pushed for making it more accessible to everyone.
The story that he claimed to invent it is just one of those fallacies that travels around the tubes and gets tangled up in the Interwebs. - Raptor007, on 06/18/2008, -0/+8I dunno, I doubt they made any efforts to slow down BitTorrent traffic back then.
- Snakedal337, on 06/18/2008, -4/+12How, in 1934 would they even know of "Video Files".. or even Files as we know them. I think their going for a bit of a stretch on this one
- DeusNova, on 06/18/2008, -1/+8I'm into underground Swing. Us cool cats listen to swing these days. I get my music from a private electroscope protocol, invite only. (don't beg for invites, people come to me like I'm a soup line) Jazz, it's too popular.
- cvindustries, on 06/18/2008, -0/+7Now you're on the trolley!
- verkon, on 06/18/2008, -0/+7I can just imagine someone sneaking a 1934 camcorder into a movie theater.
- ahawks, on 06/18/2008, -0/+7I'm with Chebsi.
Yeah the article author played a bit with vocabulary, throwing in "social networks" and such, and keep in mind this guy's stuff was probably not written in english anyway, but look at the core concepts.
A "document" or "file" could be requested and viewed remotely, including references ('links", 'hyper-links") to other documents. A "document" or "file" being an aural, visual, or textual entity. - Scrappy1850, on 06/18/2008, -0/+7is this the complete version?
- gthyb, on 06/18/2008, -0/+7Wow...so uncanny it almost seems like a hoax.
- pjkli, on 06/18/2008, -0/+7Somebody please kill me?
- chrissku, on 06/18/2008, -0/+6I bet Yahoo email still had a spam problem.
- dislexicllama, on 06/18/2008, -2/+8-"He called the whole thing a “réseau,” which might be translated as “network” — or arguably, “web."
Réseau is french and quite literally means network, not "might be"... - borez, on 06/18/2008, -0/+5Anyone got a mirror for this, the NY Times is trying to get me to do some login *****?
- jrackow, on 06/18/2008, -3/+8The prophet Daniel talked about it thousands of years ago. Before Jesus was born.
Daniel 12:4
"But you, Daniel, keep these words secret, and seal the book until the end times. Many will travel everywhere, and knowledge will grow."
Yeah, I know. I'm getting buried. Just get it over with. :) Is quite an interesting little verse, though. - Raptor007, on 06/18/2008, -0/+5This is more evidence for the time traveler theory.
- Trigonometron, on 06/18/2008, -0/+5This is pretty interesting. Think about the amount of knowledge held in the library at Alexandria. Millions of scrolls, collected from across the world. The library burned, then it took thousands of years to re-learn some of that knowledge. Most of the historical data kept there will be lost forever.
The fact is that humans are super-intelligent, but we are just lucky to live in a time where things have happened to come together the way they have. In another thousand years it could all be forgotten again! - mCanada, on 06/18/2008, -0/+5Expensive and they put chipmunks in the telegraph poles to slow down the transmission rate if you used too much bandwidth. Luckily we've evolved.
- Jareth86, on 06/18/2008, -0/+5Wow, steam punk isn't just a genera. It really happened.
- cirquo, on 06/18/2008, -1/+5LMFAO
- idavidtang, on 06/18/2008, -0/+4Maybe, but Otlet could be Al Gore's uncle, that's probably what he meant by saying he created the internet.
- katerpilar, on 06/18/2008, -0/+4you obviously use the internet described there, you have a lag of about... 3 YEARS.
