- wibblewibble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+40So extreme the risk of papercuts is high
- drakethegreat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16The title of this article gave MS fans gigantic boners.
- brendanc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Description a little misleading? One piece of paper?? That dragon is NOT one piece of paper... unless it is... and if so, DAMN.
- mikeyj10, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I've never been able to say that something was just too geeky for me to do, but then someone had to submit an article about extreme origami.
- SnOwie, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13Having that much time is criminal
- TheCookieMaker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8actually that dragon is one piece of paper it was a very large specially made piece of paper made from plant fibers instead of wood so it is thinner and stronger than normal paper
- Lifestory, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7uh okay, a stadium full of spectators watching 1 person sitting there folding a piece of paper, huge cheer when a SPECTACULAR fold was being done. I finally see why it should be considered under the Olympics.
Imagine the sponsors for this event. One paper-making company and a band-aid-making company. - keikun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6amazing.
imagine, freestyle origami. - Kolar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7http://kr.image.yahoo.com/GALLERY/read.html?img_filename=44505eb360b6
- BillyEveryteen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"Extreme Origami! Sponsored by Mountain Dew!"
I think we'll see this on X-Games next year. - drakonite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You mean the ones you click on and it shows you an image of them folded?
- Chaos12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4^^ wins.
- theRIAA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"oh and this vally fold looks like a tough one Jim.. looks like hes taking his time with this one.. and well take a moment to recodnise supo-heal for all there papercut healing power- oh and its GOOD! *croud cheer*"
- gambl0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The greatest thing is Lang and Kamiya have books out with their designs. I have Lang's insect book, and believe me, the models are not for a beginner. I thought I had got pretty good, making a bunch of basic animal designs, and then doing multi-sheet kusudama designs... then I bought the insect book as a challenge and I can't make it through almost anything without crumbling my paper into a ball :( I need way more practice before I attempt these models again.
- JustMatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ahh the Lincoln Logs. :'( Do kids play with those now? I love those things.
- tribble222, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8"A mountain fold is what you get if you crease a piece of paper so that it stands up like a pup tent. A valley fold is the same thing turned upside down."
Ok, so let me get this straight.... mountain folds look like mountains and valley folds look like valleys??? NO WAI!!! - olddirtycr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I dont see how some of these are possible with one piece of paper, heck i dont see how any of the ones pictured are.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Not a sport, that's for sure..but definitely an art.
Those are some seriously amazing creations. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That reminds me of an old childhood pasttime.. spending hours building giant cabins with Lincoln Logs, only to drive over them with a R/C monster truck 2 seconds later.
Good stuff :) - ovni, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"The program does not tell the artist what steps to take to get from the crease pattern to the final shape." How cool would it be if the program could actually provide a 3d simulation of the folding process? Would make an awesome screen-saver.
- Wavey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That Kamiya guy must have an absolutely insane sense of spatial relationship visualization. I remember those questions on IQ tests, where I'd have to figure out what a scored piece of paper would look like when folded a certain way, or vice versa where given a shape, I'd have to mentally unfold it and figure out what the flat sheet of paper would look like, with creases. I never found it to be especially easy -- so art like this amazes me (and yes, origami is an art form -- with a heavy engineering element to it also -- and it is not a waste of time, no more so than any other art method).

- spriggig, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I used to build model cars when I was a kid. No sooner had the last bit of paint and glue dried did I destroy the model with firecrackers or whatever. The fun is in the building, the journey if you will. Once the building is over, having the thing that is built is anti-climatic. I bet these guys burn these things to light their cigars when they are done.
- darkmotion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Severely Awesome
- Jwymon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Fold that crane, I'm just impressed at the dexterity demanded by this "sport"...One time I saw a performer fold a crane about the size of...I don't know a grain of rice. I was pretty far away and I'm still skeptical...
Too close to mimes for comfort. - justice7, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4i perfected this sport folding extreme paper airplanes in school
- diggerd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've got about 50 cranes around here... some days are busier than others

- blackmariah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Do you think the same of all arts or just the ones you don't like?
- herm1t, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"That dragon is NOT one piece of paper... unless it is... and if so, DAMN."
That is what I was thinking... Who makes a sheet of paper that big?! - BudTugley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0....how? Dear god, how?
That's gotta be a pretty big piece of paper. - holusbolus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Damn!! I struggle to make a decent paper airplane!!
- katiey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just because I'm part Japanese, this deserves a comment and a few diggs.
I can see this on ESPN following a competition on "fly catching with chopsticks", you know, Mr. Miagi style. Could even have a triathalon...wasabi eating contest.
Exreme no less. - wfenthusiast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0simply awesome...
- lorus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Special paper? I want an origami dragon from the folded trunk of a tree!
- Narayan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Wow, the detail that can be achieved by folding one piece of paper is amazing. Wouldn't want to think of the paper cuts you'd get making some of these though.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0This is why I read digg.
- azneita, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0that thing is really nice to have... it would make a great center piece
- Bokista, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Having that much time is criminal? Calling origami a sport is what's criminal...
- xxrazor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0cool

- NoBatmanNo, on 10/12/2007, -10/+7That is incredibly awesome, much better than Professional Rock, paper, Scissors. I would support this being in the Olympics.
- CharlesDarwin, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1"much better than Professional Rock, paper, Scissors."
