- Tesladownunder, on 12/03/2007, -0/+25I added the video after the webmaster of Gizmodo contacted me to say his audience had commented that they wanted the video. I am not very slick at video's but I added it and finally got to bed at 4am. Oh, we are slaves to our media...
The video is unimpressive but the beauty lies in the fact that all the sparks are caught during the 1 1/2 mins exposure.- cracker42, on 12/03/2007, -0/+6Yeah if anyone (like me) was just looking for instant gratification and clicked the video without reading that the photos were long-exposure, they will be terribly disappointed with the video. That said, very impressive work.
- BoneheadFarker, on 12/03/2007, -0/+2For some reason, I'm never disappointed by tesla coils. Sparky Sparky...

- sotopheavy, on 12/03/2007, -2/+27I'd have a boner too if I could control that much electricity!
- themoose, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1That suit looks insanely flammable
- pimpbot1979, on 12/03/2007, -0/+34Kids the gifts are under the tree. You will just die of shock.
- fratdaddy, on 12/03/2007, -19/+3Not that I hate Christians. But as a member of the jewish community, I approve of this.

- Archon810, on 12/03/2007, -2/+2What does 404 have to do with this? The site is taking a long time to load and/or is down. Absolutely unrelated to 404.

Man that video is dull, but you need to see it as I see it to see how the real effect adds up in the photo. Hopefully when Discovery channel shoots this on Saturday, they can sum the images to give the painting effect and make the colored tree develop in real time, unlike my video. - Apoy, on 12/03/2007, -0/+2How much electricity does it consume?
- verkon, on 12/03/2007, -0/+6Bleh, thought it was awesome until I read it, just long exposure and colour filters
- pjdk28, on 12/03/2007, -2/+2$10??????????
- yagidem, on 12/03/2007, -1/+1That's way too cheap. :(
- thebrok3nsystm, on 12/03/2007, -0/+2This puts Chevy Chase to shame.

- sdigroup, on 12/03/2007, -2/+1WOW!!!!! another Tesla coil post on digg.... Go figure
- Tesladownunder, on 12/03/2007, -0/+5Hey the Santa suit is inflated by a small centrifugal blower run by a small battery pack. I do not weigh 400lbs and I do not have a big gut like that.....well if I slouch a bit perhaps.
The novelty suits are also available in a sumo wrestler version. They are very light and cheap and made in China like everything else except this Xmas tree which is proudly made in Australia (= "down-under" )- cornerback42, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1I saw an "Olly the Ostrich" costume for Halloween that used the same thing. It was inflatable and it looked like you were a midget riding an ostrich, it was pretty funny. I'll look for a link of it.

They have it search Olly the Ostrich. It's pretty funny looking, there is also a horse one.

- ekin09, on 12/03/2007, -1/+1To me it means two words: Red Alert
- Nemmic, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1Wow! That was absolutely....way to much work; still neato!
- brookolatesla, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1awesome. that's all I can say.
- giveer, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1Damn. Dozens and dozens of hours assembling the Christmas Tree - and what looks like about 3 minutes on the Santa costume.. :P Amazing stuff though, zoinks.
- xero69, on 12/03/2007, -0/+3Ho Ho HOOOOLY ***** I'M BEING ELECTROCUTED!
- bj1989, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1Looks like he uses a leaf blower to cool the elektronics! http://tesladownunder.com/TeslaXmasAframe.jpg
- FTHamilton, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1The leaf blower is actually cooling a rotary spark gap. A spark gap acts as a sort of high speed, high power switch that allows rapid charging and discharging of a high voltage capacitor into the primary coil.
