- SuperMank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+32That should be, "Did you even read the description?"
- falcon707, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32Did anyone else notice that the program was created in 1998?! It's amazing that I've never heard of this program before...
- Hermitwise, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23I bet Will Wright would digg this.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23is it just me or did he just draw male genetalia, then a sperm, then some sort of wierd adult toy?
- Electrox3d, on 10/12/2007, -2/+211999 technology was so 2006
- MrSidnet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Would someone please port this to the Nintendo DS? hehe
- fugazi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Umm works fine here on os x.
- KeyLimePie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Amazing. I'd always hoped for a day when drawings can come alive with such ease that a child could make his own 3d storybook.
Direct link to the program:

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10wow simply amazing... java works on all platforms... isn't that what it was designed for? just a thought...

- rotarychainsaw, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Works on Ubuntu too.
- Osiriscky3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"This is a snail"
- bmalicoat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4hmm.. everything I make ends up looking like a ginger root...
- reddevil3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The guy who developed this was given "Best presentation" or something at SIGGRAPH 2006. One of my professors went to SIGGRAPH and he said it was pretty amazing what he's working on.
For the past 3 weeks we have been discussing his work and some of the students in the computer science department are hoping to do research based on his work. This guy is currently working on a program called SKETCH where you just draw stuff in 2D and you can create full 3D models depending on your perspective. (TEDDY allows you to create models using intersections, but you would be able to define every aspect of the 3D model). - hoku808, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Revolutionary.
- matt0baba, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5it works fine in OS X here ... but its a bit slow with large extrusions even with a G5 and 1gig of ram
- jumba911, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is a Snake...This is a Snail...This is a dinosaur...This is Frekin awesome!

Thought BlueHost was a good host...Nay. - Rocka89, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is a little too fun...
- DMCau, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Mirror of the Java class files:
http://www.filecloud.com/files/file.php?user_file_id=256036 - Prod1gy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3narrow lines = thinner
big gap between lines = thicker - kalmi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3cool..but the applet is very unstable(at least in firefox1.5 and ie6)
- Seidoger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Oh wow, this is some revolutionnary stuff!
In what it does but also usability and user interface wise!
Wow this is so much fun haha!
Now i need a stereolithography or CNC machine hehe :D - Prod1gy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Woah, pretty awesome :D
this reminds me of that ps2 game Magic Pengel - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_Pengel - cosmotron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2How does it know what parts to draw wider than others?
- squiff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2why the hell has no one mentioned SMOOTHTEDDY the updated version:

Vidie is available HERE:
http://www-ui.is.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp/~takeo/video/smoothteddy.avi - lazyrussian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Apparently thousands of people never heard of it. Just bringing to light an ingenuous program.
- zzz@tkz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Pangel: The Quest for Color (Despite the title, it's an awesome game) has somthing like this, but on there it is a tad easier to extrude.
Cool, none the less, and dugg. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Watch the video here: http://www-ui.is.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp/~takeo/video/teddy.avi
- darkmotion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is great :p and the obj files can be chucked into any 3d pack woot
- Phocion55, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Anyone asking "will this work on Linux?" or commenting "This works in Ubuntu" should probably not be operating a Linux box. Ever.
- gcnaddict, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's a fun as hell tool to use, but in terms of what it is, it's no more than a proof of concept.
I'd seriously LOVE to see this merged into Sketchup. - Smwbigboss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@mat0baba
That might have more to do with your java applet than your hardware. I have the same problems on XP. - ka0tic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This program is sweet but its not as easy to use as you think.
- Beanis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You mean Magic Pengel (atleast that's what it was called in the U.S.). It used the same type of drawing engine, but with even more features. I bet the guy who made this program worked with the Magic Pengel team.
The game had an excellent drawing/modelling interface, but the actual game was rock-paper-scissors pokemon type battles and sucked. - dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Reminds me of that really.. scary, LSD-inspried-I'm-sure cartoon where the girl had a "magic pencil", and what ever she drew came to life..
- Ben - yensed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I still cant figure out how to get it to work. Someone please help me?
- jimrooney, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My Mom can use this!
Seriously, I just sent her the link. That's it... no sitting down trying to explain freakin 3d modelling theory... just "Here ya go... have fun". - bashnu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1genius
- geronimo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1if you use it a lot you'll wanna add '-Xmx500m -Xms500m' (assuming you have 500megs ram to spare) so the java applet doesnt error out. Default is something like 64megs which is too low.
- bf5man, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In the same direction, but more cad oriented, 3D Sketching:
http://ccsl.mae.cornell.edu/research/sketch/ - Krasnichuk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, this is some really cool stuff, and it's so easy to learn, like you just read the manual that comes with it and your flying in 10 minutes... It's great!
Chris - MrSidnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1okay, a couple more serious pictures. Much better than the prev.
This time, we have Mr Bumble, and a little inchworm, just for fun.
http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/4200/drawingsoa4.jpg - jdonner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In 2006 we're still looking at the same 3D potatoe... shows that this technique has shown little purpose over a long period of 8 years. No digg.
- patientx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Guys here is a newer version with painting : !!!
http://www-ui.is.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp/~takeo/java/smoothteddy/index.html - marioluigi123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For the original applet:
(It works reliably only in IE4.0) -
