Star Wars - "The Last Supper"
conceptart.org — Great painting comissioned for Giant Magazine. I think Vader should be in Jesus' spot - but it's still really cool as it is.

- digg it
- Piper7865, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15That's just damn cool
- shrewduser, on 10/12/2007, -18/+7nah it's either luke in the middle or obi wan....
- beelz, on 10/12/2007, -39/+4been on digg before but a long time ago like 1.0 so ill digg.
- haelios, on 10/12/2007, -9/+50No, Vader should be in the middle. I mean the whole story really is about the rise, fall and return of Anakin Skywalker isn't it?
- Lyph4, on 10/12/2007, -37/+7"No, Vader should be in the middle. I mean the whole story really is about the rise, fall and return of Anakin Skywalker isn't it?"
No. The only characters that were supposed to be in all 6 movies were the droids. Watch the original 3 again. They open and close with a shot of the droids. - zybch, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24Lyph4, you obviously don't watch enough starwars.
Its totally about the rise, fall and final redemption of Anakin Skywalker!
The droids are just the comic releif, a sort of metal Laurel and Hardy. - joel8x, on 10/12/2007, -3/+55Yeah, but Jesus was the son of god, and never fell into darkness, while Anakin did some aweful things in the story. Luke was more of a Jesus-like savior (if it weren't for Luke, Vader would never have turned back).
- hansamurai, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Well, Star Wars doesn't fit the Gospels perfectly so there really couldn't be a one to one replacement. I think Luke or Anakin would have been a good decision because Vader fills so many roles, savior, traitor, etc.
- RandomGuySteve, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20No Lando Calrissian? This Blasphemy shall not stand! To the streets with costumes and plastic lightsabers, comrades! Tonight, we riot!
- 4bit, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5actually Lyph4 is right. Sort of...
Originally story was to be being pulled from the droids data banks. It is about the fall and redemption of Anakin/Vader, but it was told from the droid's point of view.
I still think Mace has no place bumping Lando... - foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Anakin was supposed to be the Chosen one.
Jesus' father didnt have a form (god).
Anakin/Vader's father didnt have a form. (force)
In the Star Wars universe,, the Force performs miracles.
In the bible, God performs miracles.
Well. thats something I can think of. - quietbob, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1no ewoks? WHY O WHY?
- CharlesDarwin, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2Without a doubt. the gayest thing I have ever seen. Thanks again digg for pushing that bar ever higher!
- darksheer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17If nothing else; this actually is a very nice piece of artwork.
- PoppedCulture, on 03/01/2008, -0/+0There are dozens of versions of this iconic painting, using Mickey Mouse, the Justice League, iPods, The Sopranos, Tom Cruise, The Simpsons, Popeye, House, Ronald McDonald, Super Mario, Marilyn Monroe and more: http://culturepopped.blogspot.com/2007/04/suddenly ...
- WebSerpent, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11I agree with the original poster about Vader being in the Jesus spot. I don't see how its Luke's last supper... Guess it just worked out that way.
It'd be nice for someone to get a scale image of the original and then start up the star wars and religion topic again.
Although anything SW is always cool to me.
WS- haelios, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Yeah, on top of that, Vader does die in the end of the movies. It's a lot more like his *last* supper than Luke's.
- Thray, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1Because Luke was more of a martyr than Vader.
- Zampa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9the artist states in comments:
"I wanted Darth to be in the jesus seat but I couldn't convince them :nohope: "
- AmishJedi, on 10/12/2007, -14/+3Thats amazing. It seems so lifelike.
- ngageguy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Awesome
- kingkilr, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1Very good artwork.
And I think its luke in the middle. - LoopyChew, on 10/12/2007, -2/+53Surprisingly, they don't have Lando in the Judas role.
- DoTheFandango, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Agreed, Judas = Lando.
- ScornForSega, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Oh, I see...
the BLACK GUY has to be Judas, is that it?
The only brotha in the series after Mace Windu and Gen. Whatshisface get capped and y'all gotta call him Judas.
Your Judas blew up the second Death Star... but ah naw, we don't talk about THAT.
- Grimdotdotdot, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24Why the hell does Mace Windu look like he's about to punch Yoda?
- noneloud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+60He looks like a snake?
- brownspank, on 10/12/2007, -7/+21But they're not on a plane.
- HumbleDialog, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30Because it's mother-*****' rude to hover over the mother-*****' dinner table
- Gatesophile, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5That's very cool. I'm not the biggest Star Wars fan in the world, but this is something pretty cool.
- ifrkr, on 10/12/2007, -17/+1leia looks like han is trying to rape her or something
- Arch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I'd like to get this enlarged, printed or painted and hang it.
- robertgoodwin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I'm sure it will be available soon on StarWars.com. $250 for a rolled up print, $500 framed.
- inkswamp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Good painting, but where is the blue milk?
- idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5They're drinking Luke's blood.
- jamble, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3This is a pre world cup one for the England team with Beckham as Jeebus.
http://www.drunkfoundation.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=16669 - doublsh0t, on 10/12/2007, -8/+6Note how Leia (a woman) is in the spot right of Luke--similar to the original in my opinion :)
- Vagari, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11John was a girl? Read The Da Vinci Code you have.
- ezkiel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4its called the Renaissance. Every artist painted men more femininely.
- mrinternet, on 10/12/2007, -15/+4I know this is a sad comment but in the Da Vinci Code we learnt that in the last supper there is a coincidental (perhaps), symmetry between what is the Princess Leah/Mary Magdalene character (in you fabulous artwork), so that you could cut and paste it out and put it next to your luke/jesus character everything fits window etc.
It is a small shame this was not done here. The serendipity would have been brilliant.
/does anyone else know what I mean ??- YossarianDent, on 10/12/2007, -6/+23Please, never use the word "learn" (in any tense) in the same sentence as "the Da Vinci Code" unless the sentence has sharp sarcastic overtones.
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14It's unfortunate you haven't watched any of the documentaries about The Davinci Code by the History Channel (or was it the Discovery Channel?). Since you probably haven't, start with this premise: everything postulated in the book is wrong.
- Vagari, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8While we already know "The Code" was incorrect. Wouldn't it work better if it was Anakin and Padme in the V position? The "secret" love that continues the lineage.
- dallen, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Let me introduce you guys to a friend of mine. His name is Fiction. Apparently you haven't met
- paladin144, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5@strictnein:
Wow, so just because the Discovery Channel says so, that makes it a fact? I will be sure to tell any history/theology professors I meet that there's no longer a debate about Leonardo's true intentions -- the Discovery Channel HAS SPOKEN!
And on the first day, God created the Discovery Channel. And He sayeth, Go Forth and Create Cable TV!
BTW, a hint for you: Many of the events that the Da Vinci Code tackles happened 2,000 years ago. NOBODY knows what really happened back then. Anybody who claims to know for sure is full of ***** unless they have a functioning time machine.
- remcobron, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4I agree Vader should be in the middle.
Can anyone tell me why Jar-Jar Binks is not in the painting? ;)- Zync, on 10/12/2007, -2/+50Jar-Jar is there.
What do you think they are eating .. :) - PaulRay, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10JarJar Left-overs... Again???
- NoSalt, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1Jar Jar is not there because he SUCKS!!!
- Zync, on 10/12/2007, -2/+50Jar-Jar is there.
- doublsh0t, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Though, when you think about it, shouldn't it be....Darth Sideous in the middle with Vader playing Judas??
- commanderx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Is this one available in high-res for printing?
- jonshipman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Prolly not as this was a commissioned piece. Depends on if the artist gets to keep the rights for this one.
- deltaphi, on 10/12/2007, -8/+0why should vader be in the middle? hey, he's the evil guy, not so Jesus-like!
And he died for his sins, and not for the humans'!
I love Luke's facial expression, just great art!
Well done, I like it!
(And yeah, Lando's missing) - alarik, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1Obi wan is old, but mace windu hasn't aged and Darth maul is still alive!!!
Still it is a cool painting- unfinity, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Shouldn't it be surprising that Mace Windu is still alive as well, not that he hasn't aged?
- speezer, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3No Lando = No digg!
- Mr.X, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Cool enough to become my desktop wallpaper :)
- khafra, on 10/12/2007, -7/+0Been my desktop wallpaper for two years. And oldie but goodie.
- jreid, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1i just put it across my duel monitors - looks awesome!
- mrinternet, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2@ Yossarian -Please, never use the word "learn" (in any tense) in the same sentence as "the Da Vinci Code" unless the sentence has sharp sarcastic overtones.
Sorry to tell you mate but the Da Vinci code was something called "fiction".
Therefore 'learning' means 'discovering' via the interaction of a medium such as something called 'reading', ask your mom she'll explain it to you.
/there may a sharp sarcastic overtone hidden for yossarian but not a 'catch-22'.
Perhaps it's just 'closing time'. - Petrarch1603, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3hey Mrinternet, you seem pretty good with words, pray tell me, what does PEDANTIC mean?
- McCullough, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Obviously a fan of "The Da Vinci Code" with his use of Leia??
- gweedo767, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I was thinking the same thing when I saw that.
- jonshipman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Where else would Leia go?
- euphoriadj, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12under the table between Hans legs
- Hurricane, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4I agree, no Lando no digg, but it does make cool wallpaper.
- leonwehttam, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1way old, whats up with old articles coming back
- DaceDiath, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Maybe its because Digg is a growing community and not everybody knows whats old and have all ready been on Digg before. I for one don't mind old stuff coming back sometimes, for the people who missed the article the first time it came by.
If you have seen it before just ignore and don't digg but if you haven't its a good read.
BTW I still think Yoda should be in the middle :P
Real good painting nonetheless - jamesob5, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3That's what happens in growing communities. Comment on the item or beat it. Stop crying like a little girl about old articles.
- DaceDiath, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Maybe its because Digg is a growing community and not everybody knows whats old and have all ready been on Digg before. I for one don't mind old stuff coming back sometimes, for the people who missed the article the first time it came by.
- mcangeli, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5While its a nice image, it doesn't really fit the time. You have characters spread out across time. Darth Maul, Han, Leia, Luke, the OLD Obi Wan, it just doesn't fit.
For it to truely have been a "last supper" type painting, it should have been the anikin from the 3rd movie and characters from I, II and III.- tyme, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6the magazine that he did it for requested that certain characters be in it. it wasn't really the choice of the artist who got included.
but then, we shouldn't expect people to actually read anything...
- tyme, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6the magazine that he did it for requested that certain characters be in it. it wasn't really the choice of the artist who got included.
- kaimoku, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3This is pretty old. It was in the giant issure number 5 (I'm not sure what month(s) that one came out, I read a lot of the back issues a few months ago.) It's still friggin' sweet, though. Once I saw that painting in the mag, I had to find it and set it as my desktop, so it's been in my rotation for a few months now.
- alej744, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1lmfao!!!!!!!!!!
- oedenfield, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Windu, Obi Wan, & Leia shouldn't be facing away from Luke. In the last supper only one person was facing away from Jesus and that suposedly was Judas Iscariot. Vader should be looking away from Luke
- emrys, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The original for comparison:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/08/Leonardo_da_Vinci_%281452-1519%29_-_The_Last_Supper_%281495-1498%29.jpg - firsttube, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Luke was the savior, which is why he is in JC's spot. Digg?
- hazlett, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Uhh....Luke the savior, JC was the savior, ergo, he is in the correct spot......
duh
- hazlett, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Uhh....Luke the savior, JC was the savior, ergo, he is in the correct spot......
- angusm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I'm not so sure about having Yoda in a sort of floating bowl on the far right. It makes him look like an entree.
- dknighton, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2That's ***** retarded.
- JDelta, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1The last movie for star wars was called Return of the Jedi. Meaning that anakin came returned to be a good guy again.
- aeproberts, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I thought it was called Return of the Jedi because Luke becomes the first new jedi since they were sent into hiding.
- hazlett, on 10/12/2007, -13/+1I agree with dknighton, this is terrible. I am hardly what one can call religious and I don't care a whit about anything connected to it, so don't get me wrong, but this painting is a huge waste of colors and canvas.
I guess anything connected to StarWars will get kudoes from lots of people, but not this fellow......- jonshipman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Well the artist was commissioned for it so it wasn't a waste of color...
- Gledster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I can't believe I haven't seen this before. I love it, I love the colours, the view through the back windows, all the characters are very well drawn, a great digg!
- ronDomingue, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I sense there will be a trend of Star Wars religious paintings
- FuckThemAll, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0http://www.aroup.com/en/?p=56
- violentvinyl, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Fast Supper: http://www.flounderart.com/Images/images_prints/print_Fast%20Supper.jpg
by Scott Scheidly - rockefeller, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1Great, just another way to promote ***** religion on Digg.
- thinkycap, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Lighten up man...I don't think anyone here is THAT nerdy where they'd worship Luke Skywalker...
- ReaperUnreal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Well, it's now official, I'm joining the Star Wars religion. Screw scientology!
- Nick519, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Lyph4 (unjustly being dugg down up near the top) is correct: the original idea lucas had was to have the entire series be from the perspective of 3PO and R2. he quickly changed the idea, but there are still threads of it that remain, like the ownership of the droids passing among anakin, obi-wan, leia, and luke.
- edguy, on 10/12/2007, -8/+22005 called; they want their story back
- MuteMathSSR, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0damn use
- caboosemoose, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1The Christ figure is Cleese! JC: even the initials are the same!
- M-ACE, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Where's Wedge?
- TylerDurden0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Where's Mas Amedda?
- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Can he do a painting of Darth Vader as Mohammad?
- ayeroxor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Vader should be Anakin pre-vader. In the last supper, the position is held by Judas before Judas "falls to the dark side" and betrays Jesus for money/power. Judas is saying, "I would never betray! I am good! Trust me!" just like Anakin in times of yore.
- dknighton, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1You, my friend, need a life. Seriously.
- TylerDurden0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Judas had a serious lack of faith in the dark side, though. He was in it for the silver... or was it the slaves? Or the 1991 Denver Broncos?
- ayeroxor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@dknighton: Clearly, I have spent very little time in bar fights on monday night football night. However, although I'm sure your dad loved to curse and spit and punch other men, he's not exactly the ideal that regular mature adults esteem to. However strange it may seem to you, I'd rather resemble Plato than your 25th-percentile, ditch-digging father. And all I have to show for it is a professional classical singer for a fiancee and a $65,000 salary when I was 23 :( Sorry.
- GhengisKhan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The artist did a really nice job, especially on Mark Hamil.
- ArminPiTT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1ye shall open the gates of GEEKDOM!
