- DjViral, on 03/21/2008, -1/+52wait what the *****, this reduces the view from the top. ***** that *****, leave it as is. the classiest structure ever built.
- andoru, on 03/21/2008, -1/+34This is the ugliest thing I have seen today, it makes the tower look stupid.
Now, what they really should be doing is to redesign the terrible facilities at ground level - the ticket office, restaurant, lift entrances etc. These would actually benefit from an upgrade. - apc3161, on 03/21/2008, -0/+31They want to celebrate the Eiffel Tower's anniversary by changing it? Am I missing something? That's like giving your girlfriend a subscription to a dieting service on Valentine's day.
- darkvad0r, on 03/21/2008, -1/+24I really don't think they've won yet. If you read the press release they just say they unveiled their project not that they've won the competition. Plus, I live in Paris and I've yet to hear anything about a Tour Eiffel redesign on the news.
Buried as inaccurate. - blinker265, on 03/21/2008, -3/+24more like FUGLY
- knugen, on 03/21/2008, -0/+19Wasn't the entire tower supposed to be temporary?
- modafroman, on 03/21/2008, -5/+22Why mess with perfection?
- undersky, on 03/21/2008, -2/+14BURIED for 90% ADs to Content Ratio
- w3v3, on 03/21/2008, -1/+12I'm glad to read this is only a temporary structure, otherwise I would award them my inaugural "Stupid beyond all recognition" award. The first thing you think of with the word Paris, or even France is the Eiffel Tower.
To conclude, that thing looks like ass. - geniusNOTatWORK, on 03/21/2008, -1/+9how about no! that looks horrendous...
- inactive, on 03/21/2008, -1/+9That is wrong on so many levels.
- GalacticRerun, on 03/21/2008, -1/+9They did a nice job on the Statue of Liberty too.
- Haz3rd, on 03/21/2008, -3/+10This sounded like it was going to be completely new designs, not something attached on to the top.
- JayBabs, on 03/21/2008, -2/+8this makes me sad.
- Ninjin, on 03/21/2008, -1/+6Headline should read: Eiffel Tower gets a hat.
It's an odd concept that doesn't appear to be terribly viable. - inactive, on 03/21/2008, -1/+6I think the Eiffel Tower is perfect right now, I don't see the need of a redesign.
- FTLJohnson, on 03/21/2008, -2/+7To look at that thing... why don't they just attack a giant ***** head to the thing...?
I mean... that *IS* the allusion that they are working toward right? Alluding the silhouette of a giant iron penis protruding triumphantly from the Parisian skyline? If they are going to be blatant about it... then BE blatant about it... OWN the penis. - castevens, on 03/21/2008, -0/+4Oui Oui
- green67, on 03/21/2008, -2/+6and here I thought that the US is the only country allowed to ***** with things that aren't broken..
- MLisa, on 03/21/2008, -0/+4Looks like the Eiffel Flower.
- Jiyoui, on 03/21/2008, -0/+4That's what they said when they first build the thing.
Maybe it might catch on *shrug* - Sherman901, on 03/21/2008, -0/+3super ugly. like, wake up the next morning after a drunken night ugly.
- inactive, on 03/21/2008, -0/+3Somebody sucks at Photoshop...last picture..
http://www.serero.com/projects/eiffel/index.htm - skyfox2k, on 03/21/2008, -0/+3Surely more people can cram on top of your girlfriend BEFORE the diet?
- morningchai, on 03/21/2008, -0/+3That's exactly what I thought. Now when tourists take photos from the top, the lower half of all their photos will have that stupid iron webbing crap. Sheesh.
- mstoneburner, on 03/21/2008, -0/+2You're an idiot if you like this.
- steveoco, on 03/21/2008, -0/+2I suppose they will add a race -stripe to it as well... the thing about that structure is not what it is made of or how it looks in photos etc... it is the silhouette. And no addition should change that.
- Cyrus042, on 03/21/2008, -0/+2Never, never, never, never revise art.
Once it's done, it's done. Every good artist knows this. To change it is a sin. Why not build a new structure instead? - shedtroll, on 03/21/2008, -1/+3No...please....keep the Eiffel tower as it is...¬_¬
- StolenLamp, on 03/21/2008, -0/+2Wow, I can read the comments there too...
- shadeOfGrey, on 03/21/2008, -0/+2But now they can charge more people to cram on top of it.
- tkcom, on 03/21/2008, -1/+3DO NOT WANT
- OisinT, on 03/21/2008, -0/+2I absolutely agree!! When I first saw this I thought to myself that it couldn't be about the actual tower. It is such a beautiful piece of art in a spectacularly beautiful area surrounding it, but the ground level directly under the tower is reminiscent of a crappy 90s carnival.
It could really do with a facelift! - mtxe, on 03/22/2008, -0/+1"The structure will be temporarily bolted without any modification of the existing structure."
- emailingRob, on 03/21/2008, -0/+1The BA London Eye was also a 'temporary' structure.
- mtxe, on 03/22/2008, -0/+1Good thing its only temporary.
- sirclown82, on 03/21/2008, -1/+2Its not broke, why try and "fix" it

NOTES ON THE EIFFEL TOWER EXTENSION PROJECT
“The Eiffel tower platform project is not a hoax, it is a manifesto to reconsider innovation in France…”
Our project for a the temporary extension of the Eiffel tower is an unsolicited proposal to the Eiffel Tower management company. We are confirming that the SETE did not organized a competition on this topic, in contrary with what was announced in the press.
This project has been a victim of disinformation ( notably by the article published in The Guardian) which contributed to discredit our proposal. Many blogs and daily newspapers did present wrongly the project as the winner of a competition organized and approved by the Société d’exploitation de la Tour Eiffel.
However, we tried to bring an innovative proposition to a non resolved issue of the Tower: The management of an ever increasing number of visitors which to 95 % want to visit the highest level, and also the narrowest of the tower. These problems of management and reception of the visitors at the feet of the tower and on each floor are real issues. - bfaulk04, on 03/21/2008, -0/+1When is this hideous thing going up, if ever? I'll be in Paris in June for my honeymoon, and this damn thing would really put a damper on things.
- elambing, on 03/21/2008, -0/+1why dont they build their ugly ass tower somewhere else in paris...
you know, somewhere where they wont be ruining famous monuments - CrushThemTorg, on 03/21/2008, -1/+2Hey. It's like the Space Needle. God awful in Seattle and perhaps even worse in Paris.
Lose. - Billis, on 03/21/2008, -0/+1"The structure will be temporarily bolted without any modification of the existing structure. "
- RickyBarnes1960, on 03/22/2008, -0/+1I think it looks great. I visited the tower in 1987 and was semi-impressed with the tower itself. The old-fashioned ironwork was quaint in the context in which it was built but it doesn't really match with the day and age. Of course, the view was wonderful. This design is beautiful and updates the look of the tower to something very sci-fi - I'm thinking the very organic looking cliff structures of the Eloi in the 2002 making of "Time Machine" starring Guy Pearce. I think the new addition fits the old well - particularly in the lit night graphics - and, at any rate, is claimed to be only temporary. Personally, I'd like to see the addition become a permanent addition. We ought to have reverence for our monuments, certainly, but let's not forget they no longer belong to the past. They belong to the present and, if we do so with reverence, why ought we not make alterations suitable to our own time, especially if they are non-damaging alterations?
- CrushThemTorg, on 03/21/2008, -1/+2Perhaps a spoiler and some ground effects.
- joltjake, on 03/22/2008, -0/+1??? That's ***** stupid.
- Homerr, on 03/21/2008, -0/+1The French, and Parisians especially, like a gimmick. And the Eiffel Tower always has some temporary gimmick going on.
- synyster, on 03/21/2008, -0/+1wtf are they thinking? it just simply put some ***** on the top.
- automan, on 03/21/2008, -0/+1At least now we know where to find the princess in The Neverending Story
- CyclingPoob, on 03/21/2008, -0/+1Just aside: They have a mini Statue of Liberty in France :P
