- wiirdo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+27Can't afford.
- killgore7, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21This piece took too long to load and tells a prospective buyer almost nothing about the car. The only thing I got out of that was that it comes with a pocket knife with a black blade. Bad PR piece.
- devin_mm, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12I guess we have full read, write, and execute permissions on the car.
- mrgoat, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10***** ***** website though.
- whaleyboy69, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9I happen to have owned a 911 (996) for 5 years and currently drive a Boxster S.
The Boxster is, IMHO, the superior car. The weight distribution is much easier to deal with (mid engine) and the convertible platform is great if you like open air motoring. I changed to the Boxster because I wanted to have a rag top, not because I would not afford a 911. If I go back to a hard top for some reason I probably will not get the 911 again because of the engine location (behind the rear axle). I like the looks of the Cayman but black is a pain to keep looking good... - angers, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6*goes on xbox 360 to play forza 2*
- maximusGeek, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8You must have missed all the reviews of it.
- Grahamajdale, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5the amount of bhp a car has isnt the sole factor that affects the speed - if you put 350 bhp in a 10 ton car it wouldnt go as fast as a 2 ton car with 250bhp, the same apples to aerodynamics etc.
- doktorrocket, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Hold the stripes, give me a limited slip differential instead.
Sadly, a Porsche exec admitted in R&T a few months ago that a Cayman with LSD would lap the 'ring faster than a 911, and they can't allow that. :( - fthead9, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Love Porsche but that site/ad was a little melodramatic. Have to agree with Kilgore, not much info either.
- AaronD12, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5***** sites that maximize the window. My screen is 1920x1200. They do NOT need the entire ***** screen!
- mach4x0r, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4My dad has one of these, it's a monster, the weight distribution is insane, i've taken a downhill s-curve at 90 without a hint or twitch of traction loss, it just eats anything you can throw at it, and ive frequently gone on costco runs with him, it can hold tons of stuff, it has 2 trunks!
- Error601, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Getting to the point of linking directly to marketing literature?
- snotrokit, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5chown -R mine /cayman
- SickFinga, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7A Porsche designed by Porsche. Awesome!
- CamperBob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I have heard rumblings of aftermarket LSDs for the Cayman and Boxster. Be curious if anyone else has any actual info on this sort of thing.
The way Porsche allows the 911 to hold back its entire product line is unfathomably lame. Every manufacturer except maybe Kia has at least one car whose marketing literature brags, "Hey, look, we beat a 911at the Nurburgring." - jeriqo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Driving above limitations is not illegal, getting caught is.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Permission to bury accepted.
- whaleyboy69, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Agreed. The Boxster is easier (and more fun) to drive fast. It happens to have superior storage but that was not a factor, for me. I have a family car for that stuff. The 911 might be faster if driven by a professional on a race track but, in real life, the Boxster is more fun. Finally, the 911 is more of a luxury car while the Boxster (at least mine) is more of a raw, loud sports car.
- brentis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Ooops wrong link - this is it. : http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=122162
- jahman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3***** website. annoyingly hard to navigate. no pics.
FAIL. - wush, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3all-flash websites make me sad
- turbopro, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Talk about copying off of the infiniti website and ad campaign
- safetyseal, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Too all the folks saying anything but a 911 is posing...ung, I hate you purists the 911 is an iconic interesting car, but I've always found it ugly, add to that the Caymen in term of weight distribution and engine layout is actually a better car. If Porsche actually allowed a decent lsd and a big 6 in the cayman it would eat a 911 alive on the track, but they must keep the purist happy with the status quo, same thing as in the 924/944/968/928 days, no I am biased as a 944 owner, but it's one of the most fun cars I have ever owned. Add to that the fact that the turbo 944 was faster around a track then the turbo 911 of it's time and it becomes obvious, the 911 is not superior the 911 exist due too it being and icon and the rich want icons. I personally cannot afford even the cayman new but I might very well be able to pick one up in 4-5 years used, and while the engine layout is different it feels like the spiritual successor to my 944.
- aptasi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The Cayman is a superior platform to the 911, which is an example of how far you take take a fundamentally bad idea (rear-engined sports car) with enough time and effort. I like the Cayman S very much, and have been sorely tempted to buy one, but it's out-of-the-box performance just isn't compelling enough. If and when Porsche stops holding back the Cayman, and they allow it to outperform the 911 (and for that matter the EVO and WRX STi) it will finally earn a place in my garage.
- skyshock1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Blah.... looks like every other Porsche. Whoop.
MAKE SOMETHING DIFFERENT LOOKING!!! - Dezelon, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3it comes with a knife, so you can stab the corvette owner in the eye after he just smoked you by 7 car lengths to 100mph and paid $25,000 less
- Comanche, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Its gonna look the same as it has for the last 5+ years!
- Jeffler, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"Black on Black has never looked so cool"
I imagine the Black on Blonde model should be out soon? - Grahamajdale, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2ACTUALLY people may buy the boxer because they want a two seater Porsche - and anyway it may not be as good as the 911 but do you say to 911 owners you only got that because you cant afford the GT3? no didnt think so
- mweels, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2My 996 TT was a POS. I will sticking with BMW.. Porsche is turning more like VW then VW turning more like Porsche.
- iblaine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2A 4 door porsche sedan and now a cayman S...I can't help but think porsche is diluting it's quality in favor of producing increasing diverse products...that all look the same.
- 350Zed, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Buried for pointing to a Web site that forces a pop-up window to see the goods.
- Shiftgood, on 10/10/2007, -5/+7Scribby, Id much rather have your '92 nissan stanza.
Powder blue right? sweet. - dreamtenstudios, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I agree with all of your points except for your last comment.
Buried as inaccurate. - goat2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2musics ***** sweet
- aptasi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The big problem is that Porsche intentionally tunes the Cayman so it won't outperform the 911. They're holding it back, and after-market versions by TechArt, Ruf, and other tuners demonstrate that the Cayman is an amazing platform that could easily eat 911s for lunch. But since Porsche won't wise up, the performance from the factory falls short of what it should be. IMHO, the Cayman is the poster child for a potentially brilliant car that doesn't live up to its potential.
- irstoopd, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Which took it from the early Mitsubishi commercials, was what you were going to say next, right?
- brentis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1this link/review/pics saves the time & frustration from dealing with that marketing crap site of Porsches.
http://www.porsche.com/microsite/cayman-pd/usa.aspx - schizogony, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5*insert negative comment here simply because I can't own one of these*
- simpleid, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3you have no attention to detail
- mattmollysdad, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1My 1970 911 T was the last year that Porsche (without a Volkswagen partner) was made. It was explained to me that the colors Porsche picked were for their largest clientele (California). Now every ***** car in L.A, is black on black with big wheels. My Vette looks like my wifes G35 which looks like my kids Honda... the only car I dream about is the Silver DBS down the block... it's so sweet.
- ubuntuedgy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Trust me, it's plenty for this car.
- radiofrequency, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Save your money... the cayman/boxster is a sorry excuse for a porsche
- trev0006, on 11/10/2007, -0/+1Awesome car but I think it will be too overpriced. http://www.discountpartcenter.com
- bobdobolena, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1For the money, I would buy a used Busa, run circles around both cars and have enough money left over for a sweet vacation someplace tropical and maybe a tummy tuck cause I would be drinking a crap load of beer too.
- molachai, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1they call it the "Porsche Design Edition." it's as if all the other Porsches were cobbled together by monkeys throwing feces at a whiteboard. of course it was designed.
- Meyithi, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3You would do if you had the money for it!
- mikeal321, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2295 hp is plenty in a car of that weight...
- Grahamajdale, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1ok so compared to porsches like the GT3 and 911 its lame but you cant deny the fact it looks good and with over 200bhp its gonna be fast as well
