- Celeron, on 11/08/2007, -15/+307Wonderful, they're thumbnails. Would of been smarter to have them linked to a bigger image where we could see the details.
- NeoRicen, on 11/13/2007, -38/+306http://search.yahoo.com/
That's more simple than Google... - hafniOum, on 11/13/2007, -13/+209Agreed but with Google, I get results.
- dunderballer, on 11/10/2007, -9/+145Yahoo is smart to not simplify its page. Google already satisfies the demand for a decent search engine with a page that isn't bloated. Yahoo's target is those who want news, weather, and other other common links at their finger tips. Yahoo might be going after a less experienced web-user(at least for home page use), but nonetheless there is a large demand for that.
- m4rk0551, on 11/08/2007, -6/+106Pics way too small...
- MikeonTV, on 11/07/2007, -18/+102OK. I understand the point of this but before Firefox had session saver (extension) and Google offered iGoogle I was using Yahoo as my homepage. I would start the browser and get the top 5 news links of the day and any email notices. Anytime my surfing came to a lull I would hit 'home' and see any new updates.
Googles minimalist approach is great too. But I still say the Yahoo! front page is more aesthetically pleasing than AOL or MSN.
Today my homepage is set for my Google Reader. - fwc67, on 11/09/2007, -9/+80Although I find google much better for searches, Yahoo is still a very good site and I don't mind browsing through their system at all.
- djphatjive, on 11/07/2007, -10/+80Why we all ragging on yahoo. We all used it before Google and it was quite good back then.
- PHLAK, on 11/10/2007, -3/+67Yahoo! obviously isn't thinking with portals.
- estvir, on 11/10/2007, -18/+76As said on Reddit where this image appeared yesterday, it's not fair to compare Yahoo.com to Google.com as one is a web portal while the other is a search engine, if you want a more fair comparison compare:
http://search.yahoo.com/ or http://www.ysearch.com/ + http://www.google.com/ + http://www.live.com/
http://news.yahoo.com/ + http://news.google.com/
http://www.yahoo.com/ + http://www.msn.com/
And so on.. but hey, Digg seems to like biased stuff like this where Linux, Google or Apple topple Microsoft, Yahoo or some other non-hip company. - FluffyWolf, on 11/10/2007, -7/+55about:blank is by far the best homepage. If you wish to search for anything you use the googlebar or the search field in your browser.
- AndrewWiggin, on 11/08/2007, -6/+46What % of people do you think know about search.yahoo.com? I've heard that argument used before but who cares if it exists or not, the fact is that when you got to their HOMEpage (i.e. yahoo.com) then you are bombarded with information (including ads) which I don't appreciate.
- bscene, on 11/08/2007, -3/+37and?
- chad78, on 11/10/2007, -2/+34WTPOUAWYHTETDAFYUT?
What's the point of using acronyms when you have to explain them directly after you use them? - viksmaester, on 11/08/2007, -13/+42And a shameless copy of google! so is msn search
- Nobiting, on 11/08/2007, -15/+39Click on 'Images'
- boris92, on 11/08/2007, -4/+27Wow, someone wanna repost full images instead of thumbnails?
- LlFT, on 11/08/2007, -9/+31If it ain't broke... Don't fix it!
- Elranzer, on 11/07/2007, -4/+26Yahoo's search results sometimes tend to be better than Google's.
Google's PageRank doesn't seem like the absolute best method, when most of the time a search result means one good page followed by 10,000 blogs subsequently linking to it and each other and then 50,000 Russian pages.. - bbardlbradd, on 11/07/2007, -2/+23Mmm....no.
/attaches hardhat with flashlight in preparation for digg down. - lintmonkey, on 11/04/2007, -0/+17I like turtles.
- luet, on 11/05/2007, -1/+17Could you make the image a bit smaller please? It's not fitting on my 640x480
- ItsMyWii, on 11/08/2007, -2/+17Yeah, but from all the clutter of the Yahoo! pages, and the simplification of the Google ones, it's kinda clear what it's getting at.
- brentinkc, on 11/08/2007, -4/+19Ahh *****...I can't believe you've done this... with tiny thumbnails
- AndrewWiggin, on 11/05/2007, -3/+16Personally I think you are crazy. I've always hated the load times for just starting Internet Explorer (or even Netscape since we're talking a while back) so I ended up just putting about:blank as my homepage and I've kept it for the past 7-8 years. Regardless, I do understand that some people do want all of that information at their finger tips and so a page like yahoo's does not bother them.
- chieferer, on 11/04/2007, -0/+13The company that makes the least standards-compliant browser makes a fully standards-compliant homepage. Oh the irony
- AndrewWiggin, on 11/08/2007, -3/+16I never thought about it like that, but you hit the nail on the head.
- holygram, on 11/08/2007, -2/+14A lot of the reason google was able to get so many users with a simple interface was that 56k modems were common back then, and it took only a few seconds to load on one, whereas yahoo could take upwards of a minute and a half.
- inactive, on 11/04/2007, -5/+17"Web Portal" is just internet shorthand for "Retard Door"
- crappylinks, on 11/08/2007, -6/+18They're making a *statement* by posting tiny, unreadable thumbnails.
- bitwiseplatypus, on 11/10/2007, -0/+11http://ysearch.com/
- CushyL, on 11/07/2007, -0/+11I thought the chart was going to look like this:
http://finance.google.com/finance?chdnp=1&chdd=1&c ... - chad78, on 11/08/2007, -2/+13Better gallery of Yahoo Homepages;
http://www.news.com/2300-1032_3-6072801-1.html?par ... - MeatBiProduct, on 11/08/2007, -10/+20cause no one cares about valid html but w3c nerds.
- lintmonkey, on 11/04/2007, -1/+10"So now we're going to add a little E.V.O.O., extra virgin olive oil." -Rachael Ray (and the sole reason I can't stand to watch her cook)
- lintmonkey, on 11/04/2007, -1/+10You're crazy.
- chad78, on 11/07/2007, -3/+12plus now, you can just go to google.com - no www required! Or, heck, they just got g.cn - shortest URL ever (it was on the front page of digg a few hours ago) Or, heck, use your browser's built-in search - or a bookmark - or your OS's search - why are you typing in URLs anyway?
- Mongo61, on 11/08/2007, -1/+9Firefox + Google.
1. Google opened up their API's so you can customize your Google page and results using Firefox extensions
2. Who actually opens Google's site when you can use the search box in Firefox? (Google pays the Mozilla Foundation every time you use the search box - you get to support Firefox without actually spending money). - nooreazy, on 11/08/2007, -4/+12'Search' has more letters than 'www'
im lazy :| - Cobainy, on 11/08/2007, -1/+9*Would have
- DrSpud, on 11/08/2007, -1/+9So apparently Yahoo is waging a war on whitespace...
- Super6, on 11/07/2007, -1/+9I agree with the session saver part. Ever since I started using FF's session saver (previously through Tab Mix Plus) I've never needed a home page. I just open FF and I'm exactly where I left off when I closed it.
- greekgoat91, on 11/08/2007, -1/+8i love google's simplicity, but iGoogle custom homepage is the way to go
- Unremarkable, on 11/05/2007, -2/+9Either about:blank or iGoogle for me. Having a Digg feed, Google Reader, and my email inbox all on one page is hard to beat.
- Fragalishus, on 11/04/2007, -2/+9Are you seriously saying there's a proper way to spell a user name I made up?
- inactive, on 11/08/2007, -1/+8I think Yahoo is doing OK. What with being the number 1 site on the internet and all.
- Pake, on 11/08/2007, -2/+9There's always iGoogle.com that allows customization and has people creating add-ons for it.
- xptoast, on 11/08/2007, -11/+17Boya! Isnt that what we want is functionality. Yahoo bites.
Simplicity+Function=Google wins! - acnx, on 11/08/2007, -1/+7Here are some screenshots(large size, not hard to distinguish thumbnails) of Yahoo! and Google's main pages in the past
