- Chewie67, on 10/12/2007, -3/+123Come on! This story SCREAMS for an image of the photo.
A page for a babble about a photo.....without actually showing the photo......no digg. - greyghst168, on 10/12/2007, -10/+38Did you even read the article?
If so, you're a moron. If not, I suggest you do so. - ccharles, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30> Why is it that every time I read the digg comments the first comment is always buried?
Possibly because, in rushing to get the highly desired/dreaded FP, users don't bother to RTFA and thus make dumb comments. Just a thought. - teamparadox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27Without a picture of this mystical camera and a resulting photo...who cares?
- morcheeba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25They are still working on building the world's largest film scanner.
- okcdude72, on 10/12/2007, -9/+24it dosnt show the picutre. No digg

i live in the area and heard about this a few months ago, pretty cool cuz the hangers are freakin hella--huge.
and another: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13325440/ - dlprager, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14... that and he's a dirty frat boy
- Poco, on 10/12/2007, -7/+19Why is it that every time I read the digg comments the first comment is always buried?
- aetas-nex, on 10/12/2007, -13/+25wow, i really hate articles like this, that really do need a picture, yet they never ***** do... just for the lack of a picture i cant digg this, this ***** needs to stop
- SkippyDoorknob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Kind of hard to move a giant aircraft hangar around though.
- dj_sea2005, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13"shows the control towers, palm trees and a portable toilet."
looks like your not missing much if one of the main sights is a portable toilet - m0nk, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13The only reason this guy posted the link to that other digg submission was because he was the submitter of that other article. He deserved to be dugg down.
- kennpeters, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12@Petrarch1603: There's a filter for that, use it and avoid what you want.
@aetas-nex: That was just uncalled-for. - Avogadro65, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Not even 1000 words. Definitely needs a picture of the picture.
- mikemac, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9The photo isn't important, the process creating it is. It's probably a picture of the other side of the base, and so is unremarkable in just about every way except for the fact that it's a HUGE FRAGGIN' POLAROID!
I think I'll use this method to make my family's Christmas Cards this year. What's the going USPS rate for a 28'x108' "Do Not Bend" envelope? :-) - vpcwiu, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11I hate news articles that talk about something, but they don't have any photos to show for it. It's like eating food that looks delicious but not being able to taste it.
- jacobo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I want a picture of the picture, not a picture of the hangar..
- MajorD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6To be technical, MILF is an acronym, whereas Calif is an abreviation. Saying "Calif" is like saying "Frisco" about San Francisco... Don't do it!!!
- marshn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@themdg
Imagine an old aircraft hanger with a hole in one side.
It's not like the built a 100' wide Canon EOS. :P - Poco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7They can't show a photo of the photo, that wouldn't do it justice ;-). Sort of like when you see those ads for HDTVs on TV - "Look at how amazing the picture quality is".
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@ aetas-nex:
You are a complete idiot.
I advise everyone here to take a look through aetas-nex's past comments just so you can be grateful that you're not as much of a moron as he is. - CiXeL, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6because people in california abbreviate everything. where do you think the term milf was invented?
- drake111, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5amazing picture!
- D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I think its cool...but a picture would of made it a lot better....or maybe a pic of what that camera took a pic of...or both side by side....On the left a picture taken by a hangar...on the right the actual picture....would of been cool...And acidBath is a genius....and sendakseuess I cannot wait to see that account myself
- AcidBath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Mmmmmm.... football field sized porn..... *drool*
- nhaflinger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Those big hangars are on what used to be MCAS Tustin, not El Toro.
- gregmo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3there were countless stories about this from a couple months back and those articles didnt have pictures. I figured wired wouldve learned from past times they should have pictures of pictorial events by now.
- muya, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"." is a character too.
- reverand, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4And here is the site for the group that created the camera: http://www.legacyphotoproject.com
great pictures there - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4How much does it take for the author to understand
A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS - SkippyDoorknob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They should not be messing with my browser window size when I visit their site!!!
- D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Can you give us a link to the picture directly...I'm a new breed of lazy and don't want to look for it
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3well, young, sexy people that live in Malibu call it The 'Bu, because when you say the entire word, it takes time, and then you wouldn't be young anymore...
- nhaflinger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Those "freakin hella--huge" hangars are on the former MCAS Tustin, not El Toro (where the photo was taken).
- reverand, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8Here is a longer article WITH picture: http://www.pdnonline.com/pdn/newswire/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1002502150
- Ace25, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"Why abbreviate 'California' to 'Calif.' in the title? There's no reason to shorten it, there's pleanty of room in the title for an extra 4 characters."
Ummm, last I checked "ornia" is 5 characters, not 4... just saying.. now time to be dugg down. lol. - NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Then why not CA?
- codyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1El Torro air force base is like ten miles from my house and its actually an awesome place... I know a group who is trying to get it turned into a non-profit studio back lot for film students.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2that picture is so huge i dont even see it! amazing!
- all2hectic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Calif. is the correct abbreviation for California according to Associated Press.
Most news orginizations use AP as a style guide. - CiXeL, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I've been by el toro, largest free standing wooden structure and all. supposedly theyve had graves in it (goth raver = graver raves). its a huge structure and seen from a very far distance. thats a pretty impressive feat.
- fiji5555, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Big deal (no pun intended lol) They spent all that time and money to make a fuzzy picture of some boring buildings just so they could claim to making the world's largest photo.....pffffffft. I think that ranks alongside the "How many hotdogs can you stuff down your big gob" contest.......who cares?
- ggko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1While I would've loved to have seen a picture of the photo, as good if not better would've been the setup they used. The author can throw all the measurements of the hangar at you plus a football field reference as a bonus, but to see one of the crew members standing at the foot of the wall they used would have a much better impact.
- fkuall, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5still not big enough for my monitor's wallpaper:(
- punkrock4life, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1no digg. i want to see a photo of the worlds largest photo...
- spyderx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Photo from OC Register article
http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/news/local/communities/irvine/article_1210585.php - ToBuns, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Producing a 336 X 1296 inch image at 300dpi would require a 39,191 megapixel camera. I guess that's 39 gigapixels.
- drewpost, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Dude El Toro was a Marine Base and where this camera is being made is about 3 miles away at the former Tustin Marine Corps Air Station. The big ol buildings are blimp hangars. Towards the end of its life it was used to house VERY loud helicopters of all shapes and sizes (trust me, for some reason they used the air above my house as a flight path at 7AM)
