- ThinkBox, on 10/11/2007, -2/+292I think some engineer took their love of Tetris way too far...
- knute5, on 10/11/2007, -0/+93"No fatties"
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+73no jumpin on the bed :O
- victoryroadrage, on 10/11/2007, -1/+62Did anyone else think of a Super Mario Bros. level when you saw that?
- kefs, on 10/11/2007, -0/+51well.. wtf are you doing.. go get some better pics and up em.. lazy *****.. heh ;).
- Amablue, on 10/11/2007, -3/+46Be careful not to line up the rooms or your floor might disappear!
- ygrof, on 10/11/2007, -1/+42I feel that I would get confused as all hell trying to navigate that building.
- vroom101, on 10/11/2007, -3/+40Full effect:

- Eryin, on 10/11/2007, -2/+34Knowing Amsterdam, if i lived there i'd probably trip out everytime i saw my own bedroom.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/11/2007, -0/+31Jenga!
- laterallateral, on 10/11/2007, -0/+27It's called "Habitat '67" it's situated in the old port of Montréal
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Habitat_67
Wiki knows best. - Ytse, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21Actually, the picture caught the building mid-Transformation...
- kvanscha, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20my favorite example of insane dutch houses is the kubus woningen in rotterdam. http://flickr.com/photos/sultan/283563444/
- MISDIREK7ED, on 10/11/2007, -0/+18Great pic of that apartment building.. Can anyone link to the pics of the hallways and ramps inside? I would look for it, but I forgot where that place is. Architects gone wild!
- beetjebrak, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17This is what's about 2 miles away from my home. The rent on one of these babies is pretty low even.
http://gallery.zoom.nl/public_images/6393/468/28vTka.jpg - Ndiggnation, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18Just the place I want to come back to at 5 in the morning, drunk and barely able to put my keys into the lock...much less find my apartment.
- mojibake, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17because engineering feats > photo glitches
- spudnic, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16Reminds me more of Jenga
- zaybertamer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12That is the coolest building I have ever seen. Thank you for the picture, so I could learn about Habitat 67 =)
- jmchez, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Any good engineer can design a cantilevered structure. It takes an artist like Santiago Calatrava to design a cantilevered structure that looks more like a sculpture than an ugly stack of bricks.

(it is Amsterdam after all) - YvesKlein, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11craaaaazzzzeeeeeyyyyyy!!!!
- EXreaction, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10How the hell can it support that without falling over?
- Syntaxis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7If you flickr and diggr you are totally web 2.0 beta and.. uh..
Hell if I know. - knowltonj, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8those are balconies.
- judbeasley, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7What's with these flickr users saying when they commented on this at digg? Am I missing something here?
- Otto, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9More pictures: http://www.brianrose.com/mvrdv/mvrdv.htm
However, it would be a lot cooler if it wasn't so god-awful ugly. I mean, that's possibly the ugliest building I've ever seen. I'd not live there no matter how neat the design is, not when it's just fugly like that. - Syntaxis, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Crap.. beat me to it.. oh well, 1st reply TO the 55th digg comment in THIS PARTICULAR topic! Yes. You may touch me.
- Judicata, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Its only kinda weird - except the lack of visible support on the units that are protruding would freak me out.
- wildfire, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Because I was super serious and stuff.
- wicketr, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5I just like the 24 lanes of highway just to the North. Is that really the best way to do that?
- vidar808, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Within it is all steel framing. There are probably heavy duty steel cross braces.
- ygrof, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I wonder if the floors creak when you step into one of the protruding units...
- dpw45, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4If I lived in one of these, the first thing I would want would be a couple of windows in the floor! Would be cool, and just think of people walking underneath in summer! :D
- crapmatic, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Unfortunately, when the toilet overflows everyone at the bus stop finds out about it the hard way.
- swordedge, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I guess some second floor people "don't" need to worry about the people downstairs.
- KlayBorg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3OMG I have been there, in fact I stayed with a few friends in one of the apartments in the sticking out bits.
- the0arctic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3And that's why you've been barred from becoming a structural engineer in every state but Texas.
- UnderWurlde, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Even crazier is that behind the Habitat building, people are doing river surfing (Montreal)!!! Look at the MasterCard website (in french, sorry!) canapasdeprix.ca and click on anything that says SURF and you'll see what I mean!
- swgc5, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6Cantilevered madness? This is Amsterdam!!!!
- neosplasher, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3hell yeah, you would have to be high to understand the blueprints for sure
- veracon, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5For the full effect, I suppose you should go to a coffee shop first.
- danwallace, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3That gives new meaning to the term housing complex.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Damn, not even Google Maps would be able to help me not get lost in there.
- Ndiggnation, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4No *****? I thought that was a well kept secret.
- psygnisfive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4From Wikipedia:
"In the United States, most civil engineers practice in particular specialties of civil engineering, such as geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, transportation engineering, hydraulic engineering, or environmental engineering. Civil engineers are typically employed by municipalities, construction firms, consulting engineering firms, state governments, and the federal government."
So indeed a civil engineer would do that sort of work. - Lingur, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Pot, meet Kettle.
- logicalnoise, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5you can digg me down if you wish but you'll never escape the labyrinth!
