- norbiu, on 10/12/2007, -16/+60IMO, Tango icons look much better and they're also public domain.

or http://jimmac.musichall.cz/i.php?i=Tango - RobertS44, on 10/12/2007, -4/+40Thanks to whoever provided this, I have been looking for icons that are very nice to look at and not copyrighted to implement into my website. I am not a photoshop expert =/
- Simplex42, on 10/12/2007, -2/+34@RobertS44
All of those icons *ARE* copyrighted, and the title is misleading - they're not Creative Commons licensed, they seem to be (from a quick scan of the licenses on a dozen of them) all LGPL
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/lgpl.html for the license itself, or just click on one of the images to see the full info about each one and its license.
Still free to use, but within some constraints of the LGPL. - antitab, on 10/12/2007, -4/+32Not quite as nice as the similarly-licensed Oxygen icons.

I guess to the Windows user they are "gorgeous" but to the average KDE desktop user, they are "default" :-P - MONEY24, on 10/12/2007, -6/+24digga please

http://jimmac.musichall.cz/i.php?i=Tango -> "Note this artwork is not public domain." - BrettFromTibet, on 10/12/2007, -12/+26Gorgeous... beveled... snazzy! Good stuff. Thanks, Oatmeal!
- lament, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17you must be new here. welcome.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13nah.. you just need to take a shower.
- smackhero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10what does this have to do with aol? these aren't buddy icons. i do a lot of web development and i use these types of resources a lot, and i imagine a lot of other diggers who do web development might find similar use in them.
- lazyrussian, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Crystal Clear is the icon-theme I use on my Kubuntu-Box. It's very snazzy :)
- atdigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Pretty similar but I like Nuvola better.
- mgagne, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7You can get a tar.gz archive here: http://linuxcult.com/crystal/icons/CrystalClear.tar.gz
- J3R3MY, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Wow, I wish I was as 1337 as you.
- mwolfzorn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Not Creative Commons they are LGPL

http://cridiron.googlepages.com/32px-Crystal_Clear_app_Volume_Manage.zip - arcooke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I suppose it's all about personal taste.. but I don't like those nearly as much. They're great as vector art, but don't seem like a good solution for icon purposes.
- antitab, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"where do you actually download the icons?"
There's not a link on the site. The icons are hosted on the websvn.kde.org page I linked to under the oxygen-icons main site. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I'm not a fan of the bubbled icons. It looks too tacky IMO
- Hacbarton, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Someone who doesn't have placement exams tomorrow should put these on a .zip
- hexydes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3We used the Crystal Icon set extensively in SkyOS. These were invaluable to us. Most definitely tech news.
- Greywhind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3So you know, I find this to be a very useful piece of tech news.
Some of us develop open-source applications but don't have our own personal artists working for us, so free icons are important to us.
Others just want to improve the look and feel of their computer.
So I don't see what's wrong with posting this on a "tech news site." - EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I fail to see how something like this is inappropriate for the "Design" section on Digg. If you don't like stuff like this please remove "Design" from your topics and quit making such an ass of yourself.
- Jugalator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@Schlaefer: Yep, the whole story is this according to the Tango FAQ:
The color palette is public domain. The actual icons are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license.
I.e. Tango icons can be used commercially as well as non-commercially, as long as the license isn't changed as they're redistributed and the Tango project is attributed. - krinthekuz, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2unfortunately the websvn site is down :/
- linuxlucas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Awesome, I really needed these. I almost went blind when trying to design my own icons.
- pintong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Exactly. There's much more to good design than a gloss and reflections. Good icons need to be simplified representations of an action or command that tell you what a button does with minimal distractions. (Take Susan Kare's work as a great example:
http://www.kare.com/ )
This icon set misses that point. Readability is sacrificed in favor of "style." - scratched, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wikimedia (the site these icons are from) has a set of "Vista" icons which you can freely use on ubuntu
- Emexci, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1nobody know the crystalxp.net ?
crystalxp contains the icons since 1 year for download - RobotCitizen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you like the Crystal Clear Icon Pack then you should take it to the next level and install the Crystal Clear Brico Pack, which include a shellstyle theme (patches themeux.dll) and well as RocketDock toolbar (a MacOS X toolbar clone).
- xJVz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hehe, I'm way ahead of you.
- kushal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1great work.... Thankx a lot.
- smackhero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what are you trying to use it for that requires it to be embedded in a dll file?
- smackhero, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3where do you actually download the icons? i can't find a link on the site.
- xxenclavexx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ok so I downloaded one of these, now how do I get it into a .dll file so I can actually use it? Probably a stupid question, but thanks.
- homeagain1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yep, you find can those (and other icon themes) here:
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Icons_themes - nitrojunky24, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1most if not all of these icons look like they came from Linux distros cool that someone took the time to put them all in one place. I don't know if I would call it gorgeous though but thats just my opinion.
- Dardoush, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2http://www.everaldo.com/crystal.html
This is the complete set, in many sizes. - Sepeteus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't quite know why but I don't like the Oxygen icons much. Maybe they look kind of flat and a bit too '90s for my taste. Or they are simply just too boring to look at.
Does anyone know if there's a good steampunk icon set somewhere? - Gunrun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Why is it that all these ***** feel the need to vandalise a very nice contribution, and not even do anything interesting? Anyway I reverted it. Hey guys why not vandalise a page that is actually useless, instead of some neat icons?
- strabes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@foolfromhell: That's because XP is really really ugly....
- bouche, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I see no gorgeous babes in these icons.
- jicon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Gorgeous"???
I've looked at all the icons, and the only attractive ones 'might' include the KDM woman, or... ah, what the hell, the Mr. Potato Head guy. Other than that, I wouldn't F any of the others.
"Eyecandy" might be a better description. Don't fall for the Apple Marketing lingo of "Gorgeous", "Pristine" and "Amazing" for every product they put a rounded corner on and reflect in an image. (Before the Apple rebutt starts, I'm typing this message on my Mac) - freeicons, on 03/24/2008, -0/+0More free icons you can found here:
http://www.freeiconsdownload.com
Free Icon Download Offers Over 230 High Quality Royalty Free icons Set. - jamesjgill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here are some more decent icons, but a bit more simplified than these: http://gosquared.com/liquidicity/archives/70
Totally agree though, Apple have their icons spot on, and have kept them that way for longer than any other company i know. - jimmiejaz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Icons are icons, they're an art from, like wallpapers, or UI design. Everyone likes something different. I don't use 'sets' but have a few dozen sets, and I mix and match what is pleasing to me.
To each their own, and thanks to all the creators. - Pheter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Personally, these icons just don't do it for me. I'm not a fan of KDE style graphics. I agree with 'DeaPeaJay', generally more subtle icons look better. They detract the users information away from the web page/application.
- gonfunko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There's also a nice set of some OS X style icons by Matt Ball available at http://www.cocoadev.com/index.pl?RoyaltyFreeIcons
All the others posted in here are quite nice as well - even as an OS X developer, they might be useful, particularly the Tango icons, which are fairly close in style. -
